"I was very impressed by this restaurant last weekend. I placed an order through Just Eat and requested some extra crispy batter bits to be added to my meal. I wasn't sure if it was possible, but the person taking my order was extremely accommodating and gave me a generous portion, which was fantastic. The staff were also very polite and friendly. I particularly enjoyed their chips, especially the broken chips they serve on Saturdays. Overall, it was a great experience."

"After seeing advertised that they had won best fish and chip shop in Sussex we had to try. We've lived in Chichester for years but rarely eat fish and chips, but we decided to on this occasion. We can see why they have been voted the best! The fish was crispy and chips. The kids loved the nuggets! They took care when writing our order and swiftly called out our names after a few mins with it ready! It was really busy and to remember our names was a real treat! We shall be eating here much more often"

"What can I say I have live around here for 12 years and watched the steady decline of Sir Harry's Chippy corner cutting all over the shop only taking cash and serving you absolute FILTH!!! So a couple of months ago Island House took over and it was new and very fresh and until today I simply couldn't fault it. Although I will say the prices would indicate we have paid for the refit as well!! My biggest gripe of Sir Harry's was the kebab meat always being pre cut up then put into pots to go all dry and hard and Island Hut didn't do this at the start, but guess what it's back with a vengeance. WE DO NOT WANT DRY CHEWY KEBAB MEAT. It's bad enough when chicken gets dry but to get lamb doner all dry and actually so chewy I am still picking it out of my teeth half hour later!!!! All the talk when I first spoke to them was this won't happen we are not Sir Harry's well guess what the new broom has swept clean. Give it 6 months you'll be frying the scalliops over and over again and adding triple layered batter on the scallops. All the customer wants is to order a kebab and see you cut it fresh off the skewer! Yes it may be busy but people will wait around for a quality product! Just like Sir Harry's I have had my last food from you and at £7.00 for kebab meat and chips I am better paying a £1.00 more and getting a nice King Prawn Curry with Fried Rice from Ruby Harborne whom I have had quality food from for 10 years!!! Sir Harry's lasted 5 years of my residency, Island House hasn't lasted 5 months before putting profit over customer satisfaction. It's a rapid fall from grace!"

"My evening took me to the Mariners pub across from this restaurant, so I decided to give this place another chance. I placed my order, but it was taking longer than I expected. Another customer who ordered almost the same thing as me received their food before me, even though there were only two of us waiting. After 10 minutes of waiting with no sign of my food, I decided to leave. I'll chalk up the £4.70 loss as a lesson learned. It seems like I've been in this situation before. Will I ever learn?"

"I absolutely love their pizza and peri chicken with rice, it's my favorite! The food is always fresh and super tasty. I would definitely recommend it. The only downside is their chicken wings are on the small side, almost the size of my pinky finger, so I give it 4 stars. But overall, I love this place!"

"Terrible fish and chip shop. I understand the cost of living, but charging more money for less food is not acceptable. I ordered a large mixed meat and chips, but requested only donner meat and tikka, a sausage, and curry sauce. Unfortunately, the chips were extremely dry with no salt or vinegar. The donner meat was very thin, the tikka was bland, and the sausage was tasteless. The curry sauce, which cost £1.95, was disappointingly small. Despite spending £15 including delivery (so around £12 for the actual food), I could have gotten more value for my money at other fish and chip shops. After seeing another negative review from a month ago, I am dreading the effects of my meal tonight. This was my first and last time trying this place."

"You all should be ashamed it's the least you can do!!! We will avoid at all cost!!! Absolutely unacceptable rude behaviour. I have never left a negative review ever but here it is. We went to this Fish and Chip place called BANKERS on 28/5. Least to say the experience was distasteful, disrespectful and rotten, of course we will never return back. We were 10 people 6 adults and 4 children, we asked for a table for 10 and we were cramped on a table of 6. We didn't mind as we were hungry and we just needed a place to feed the kids so we took that table. We ordered the food and drinks after speaking to the waitress as we were running short of time and we wanted our food quick, till this point all was ok. The drinks arrived and then the food arrived on our table which was served to us by someone called JOE, we asked for some extra plates which he did but did not seem happy while doing his, our one of the main course was not delivered with the rest of the order so we waited patiently and when no one turned up we contacted the lady who took our order after 20 minutes of wait as no-one bothered to check on us. How the food was? Or do we need anything? A basic curiosity of a normal running restaurant which seemed too much of a ask what followed next. So we were told, the chef has had an accident in the kitchen and he is preparing the dish again so we waited patiently again, by this time everyone else has finished the lunch and the last dish which we are waiting now for 40-45 minutes arrives. So JOE gets this dish again, we asked why it took so long? and the moment we asked he has a aggressive uncontrolled fit and he starts yelling and shouting and told us you should have asked? And his rant went on and on...we were stunned and shocked by his behaviour making a genuine situation so uncomfortable as everyone in the restaurant started looking at us and we're flabbergasted with embarrassment. We had kids with us and we were a group with 2 elderly people as well who were visiting us from a foreign country they were left dismayed by JOE’S action. We didn't understand the need of this behaviour and he kept on and on in between all on the table at some point tried to speak to him but he was furious with no reason but he kept yelling and was very disrespectful, we just returned the dish back as we didn't want to be there for even a single second. We asked politely again to speak to the manager and we were told that she only works Monday to Friday her name is Maria so there is no one whom we can speak too, the waitress kept apologising and she said he is having a bad day etc etc. So we paid all our bill and we left never to come back again. This completely ruined our day and I think this is a very common practice here as I happen to read the other peoples reviews and they are on same lines. This place is in business with this attitude is appalling in it self. The food is average and is acceptable but The service is atrocious and it's hard to digest that in current days and age someone can shout at their paying customers and be aggressive and still gets away with this . Absolutely unbelievable."

"fried chicken flour incl. drink. people on hockey who eat in the chat (so much for social distancing). the server went back and came after min with raw chickens that were coated in flour, and then in. the chip frit. chips that are thrown in a separate basket in frit, taken out and in poly container without drain, within minutes. That huh came out after minutes. chips under boiled and oily, huh tasteless, oily also underboiled. to serve less than minutes of order. ate chips and took from each piece of chicken, then the drink had to wash away the taste. chicken in heck for foxes thrown chips on grass for birds. for a dose tango. large error, learning experience. would not recommend any circumstances."

"Since this got took over by Indians it’s gone right down hill, I used to be a regular at the great lovely big standard the people before set but chicken tikka chips sent be violently ill for 12 hours out of both holes same time, a chicken bap 2 weeks later (they were looking inside the big square boxes ring to detect what meat it was) with apple sauce stuffing, that sent me running to the toilet too. Il only ever use them for a plain portion chips if I ever have to. What’s with the vapes and alcohol fridge on counter, it may aswell be an off license greediness which has hopefully gone against them. Far cry from the high standard English chip shop previous owners great staff ran, brilliant people they were. Now half the portions for more money.Such a shame it came to this, I never knew they were selling up. Makes my property nearby devalued, nothing to boast about anymore."

"Worst fish and chips for years. Ordered 3 cod plus 1 haddock and 2 large chips. 1 cod badly overcooked with batter burned and fish nearly solid. Other 2 cod slightly overcooked. Haddock perfect. Chips were badly overdone and tasted like oil not changed regularly. 34 Pounds total cost. Very poor and won't be returning. Used to be excellent now disgusting."

"Went to grab a large portion of chips today, cost me £4.95! For re-fried chips from the night before!! Was absolutely disgusting, couldn’t even feed them to my children as they were rock hard. "I've always been here and never had a problem I'd say in the last few months the food is either always good or terrible as one minute it's yummy and then it's not. "Totally forgot to take pictures of the food we had brought because it was that good we ate it so quick !!! I was diagnosed coeliac last August and have been struggling with the GF diet, most of the foods I 've tried aren 't nice at all. Someone told me about Belgrave Chip Shop last week and having a full size GF menu, so I had to try it!! Well, we wasn 't disappointed at all when I say we, its because my husband who can eat anything off the menu, was tucking into my GF fish bites and GF chips. They were that good, he said he would have them over the normal menu We live the other side of Tamworth to Belgrave but will definitely, 100%, be making the trip when we fancy a 'chippy tea '. Thank you so much for making the effort to do GF, it makes the world of difference to people like me, x I 'll be sure to post this on the GF support pages I 'm following too, along with a picture of your menu"

"Asked for a large sausage and small chips. Place was empty at 1pm so asked if the chips had been lying long told by the server that they were fresh she had face that would turn your milk sour, when snapping back at me. Paid and left anyway chips were greasy as he 'll and barely luke warm which is the same as the last time I went in late evening about an hour before closing. They seem happy to serve up any old crap, no apology when I found a big black long hair in my food previously !!! It 's local and handy but really guys you really need to try harder.
