"My friends and I have been using Tylney Hall for both business and personal purposes for over 30 years. Over the last approx. 20 years The Oak Room has been our go-to restaurant for birthdays, celebrations and, most importantly, our pre Christmas dinner celebration. Our group of 5 or 6 have spent a considerable sum dining at The Oak Room, and until now, it has been a special event with good food, great service in a beautiful house. Until this Christmas…. The lack of attention by the staff, the lack of vegetarian options on the menu, the removal of niceties such as amuse bouche and sorbets between courses, the rolls being left on the table instead of served to guests, nobody taking our coats on arrival or showing us to the lounge, the list is endless and I could go on. On the limited menu, many items were at a supplemental cost to the two or three course menu and to add insult to injury, the only dairy free option in the dessert menu was a sorbet at £11! Not even Christmas turkey or similar roast and Christmas pudding were on offer. Their executive chef is clearly unable to produce suitable dietary options for modern dining. We spent approximately £380 for a paltry meal, we had requested our usual table and were placed somewhere we specifically asked not to be and, a small thing but a big issue in terms of atmosphere, the piano was covered and the usual lounge pianist was nowhere to be seen or heard. We shan’t be returning to Tylney Hall. Their response to our letter of complaint was to offer a discount on a meal for four, obviously they paid scant attention to the number of guests attending the Christmas event, we don’t feel like spending another large sum of money at this establishment. Poor show Tylney Hall. So disappointed."

"At the bar, drinks were being poured and the girl mentioned that the cocktail would take a while to be brought to the table. There were a total of 9 people in the bar/lounge area with three servers. After 15 minutes, I noticed the bartender folding napkins and asked for the cocktail. He gestured towards the bar where the girl had been standing before serving other customers. The bartender seemed disinterested and gave me a look as if to say, "How dare you ask?" In the restaurant, which had 5 dining tables, my daughter requested a Hendrick's gin and tonic but the server had never heard of it. She suggested a Bombay Sapphire instead, but they were out of that too. My wife asked for black pepper, but the server claimed they only had white pepper in the shaker on the table. Midway through the meal, the restaurant managers ran by and inquired about the missing black pepper. Eventually, a server brought a pepper pot to the table and mentioned that it took so long because they didn't know how to open it, but it turned out to be a pepper grinder. Despite the food being good and the service friendly, the staff seemed to have no idea what they were doing. This particular location, the Marriot Highcliff Hotel in Bournemouth, does not live up to the standards of the Marriot Group. It lacked a sense of responsibility and interest, giving off a poor impression overall. A bizarre and disappointing experience."
