"When we first walked in the staff just didn’t acknowledge us there was no table of 6 available so asked if we could move the table of 2 and table of 4 together as they were next to each other and both free. At first we was told no and then after a bit of explaining we was told we’d have to wait 15 minutes so they could clear the table. There was a tray with a few empty drinks on. 15 mins was up so we all went in and sat down the tray with drinks on was still on the table and the table hadn’t even been wiped. After all getting settled the waitress finally moved the tray and explained they was busy. We ordered drinks and food together. The drinks took 20 minutes to come. I had coke in a bottle and a glass with ice in. My ice was already half melted. Over an hour later our food came out. Burgers were dry. The Mac and cheese was the worst thing I had ever seen. It was like really stodgy porridge and did not taste of cheese at all. Any time we asked the waitress something she just made it seem like we was asking her to go above and beyond for us when really we wasn’t being difficult even in the slightest. At the end we go to pay and they add a 10% service fee without even asking. Why would I want to pay 10% of my nearly £150 bill for a poor and quite disgusting service. The only plus’s side to this place was the decorations, the mayonnaise and the fact they allowed dogs in"

"I booked a room through Expedia £115 for a one night stay with breakfast night of 16/02/24. Our room on entering was heated to make the temperature immediately uncomfortable. The lovely member of staff suggested we open all the windows and the door leading to the car park as it was impossible to turn the radiators either off or down. When advised that we couldn’t accept a room heated to that temperature or sleeping with the door open all night we were shown to the only other room available. This was a ground floor room in the annex off the car park. We should have simply driven back home late in the day to Northumberland. Our overnight stay in this dark, dilapidated room was nothing short of miserable. The lovely member of staff apologised for the fact that opening the room door was a problem requiring some effort as it required like the radiators in the first room maintenance work. We would have been in trouble had we needed to open the door quickly in event of a fire. In short on the accommodation front I did not receive the standard of accommodation I had booked and paid for. The rooms I saw were tired and in need of upgrading and remedial work to reflect the images displayed. My breakfast the gluten free option was again disappointing as the “gluten free option” simply involved removing the items containing gluten. The bacon was streaky and predominantly fat. On a very positive note we ate in the restaurant for dinner and the food was superb! The Admiral Hornblower appears to be a great option when dining out in the town but in my experience somewhere to avoid when looking for accommodation."

"So I start this seated in my room with the most beautiful view it’s one of my favourite hotels which I love so much since starting chemo it’s my local ‘go to’ as it makes the world I’m in go away so I write this honestly with such disappointment. We dined in the restaurant this evening food was spot on as always! My gripe was with the gentleman who I find is the manager in the dining area. On arrival we waited to be seated, the gentleman in question seated another customer and returned back to the plinth keying into his iPad making no eye contact nor acknowledging our presence he was clearly frustrated by his iPad and was struggling to input so overlooked his ignorance as could see stressed and felt a little sorry another gentleman seated us once our mains arrived I ordered a bottle of wine sadly this did not appear to our table once we finished I said excuse me to the First Gentleman to ask for bill/state wine not arrived he glared at me (admittedly his hands were full) but said nothing whatsoever a second waiter passed with equally full hands and again I spoke to him what a difference and so polite whilst I was complaining venomously about the first waiter he advised that was the manager he returned with equal arrogance to say I said I’d come back (he definitely had not) when challenged he said ‘well you could see my hands were full’ !!!!! Do your hands operate your mouth and tongue!! Learn humility and manners from your junior colleagues however stressed you are customers deserve respect the young man could stop to speak yet you were ignorant and rude!!!"

"This is a very mixed review so I’ll start with the positives. Decor Lovely Staff mainly great apart from very rude young man with tattoos (literally slammed the bottle of wine on the table) just because I asked for the empty glasses to be taken away… more in this later! We had a lovely friendly welcome from the French gentleman. Food was nice. Not wonderful… didn’t blow us away but nice! Negatives Greed has taken over here.. we booked this table well in advance, 4 adults squeezed around a table for 2… wrong!!! I asked what we could do and was told nothing. With 3 6ft males our knees were touching. For a bill exceeding £200 we deserved better! Starters very good although my set savoury custard wasn’t quite set but still tasted ok… Mains.. Great burger book looked quite small, mean even but tasted good. Roasts our lamb was well cooked but roast potatoes were anemic, needed longer but I suspect with packing so many people in they were rushed!, Carrots lovely, very little green veg, tiny spoon of leeks, no cauliflower cheese, no parsnips, no peas or cabbage or broccoli.. Again for £24 each I would expect better vegetables than this. Will say great Yorkshire Pudding though. I must say it wasn’t just us, there were other people complaining about not having enough room around the table.. Very sad really because it could be great but please look after your customers better instead of treating us like this. Would we return? Probably not because there are so many eateries here to choose from."
