"that was my fifth visit to michael house. it won't be my last, all is good! michael house is really a small piece of paradise for visiting vegans. there are all they need from a warm welcome, comfortable rooms with cruel free care products and a tea tablet (plus fresh vegetable milk readily available for this post walk cuppa, the beautiful coast just a stone throw away, and not least the food! it would be worth to stay for eating alone (but I recommend to them to check the beach while they are there. from the beginning of the day to the bed, vanessa can provide for her meals if necessary. the full michael is enough to satisfy the hungry appetite at breakfast, and includes freshly baked brot to graze up while waiting. In the evening meal may be 2 or 3 courses depending on the appetit, and my new stay included some divine offers including a velvety smooth tomato soup that I can never replicate at home, a delicious sweetheart, a nourishing Buddha bowl and the legendary strawberry shortcake. all highly recommended! if you need a lunch package, vanessa can also make sure that we have made for her home hummus, home made bread, fresh vegetables and chocolate dessert. we ate it on a hill with a look at padstow estuary and no scrap was left! vanessa has beautiful dogs and cats, berri and velvet (dogs will welcome them a warm and furry when they are a dog lover. what are you waiting for? if you enjoy being pampered by beautiful hostes in a stunning part of cornwall, you will get booked now!"

"We visited today for our second time as we loved it so much last week. We had booked for a 3 course Christmas dinner. On arrival I could see that the table id requested was ready for us however it was surrounded by tables that were all full. Sadly COVID has left me with a lot of issues and my main one is anxiety, especially with a lot of people around. The staff were lovely and moved us to a perfect little table at the side of the bar. We ordered our drinks and were happily people watching as there were a lot of people having Christmas lunches and we were seeing what the food was like, it all looked yummy. Drinks ordered we had a visit from the chef. smashing bloke who wanted to check out starters and ask if we were ready, we said yes and a few minutes later put they came. pate and prawn cocktail and both delicious. Chef popped back out and asked who was the fish which was Mr, he asked what type of peas I wanted to which I said mushy as I knew they were proper mushy peas, did I want salad, yes please and I also asked for my fish to be skinless which isn't an issue here Mains arrived and were gorgeous and hot, couldn't fault a thing. Even though the restaurant was busy and there also appeared to be a funeral party in the conservatory for which we had watched plates of food come out from the kitchen for, the service was brilliant, and all the ladies were brilliant. Christmas pud and Roly poly followed with a coffee for my oh, both were delicious. It was an absolutely delicious meal and a good menu. We used to have a Christmas meal out but hadn't for a few years, so glad we chose here. Thanks again for wonderful food, a lovely atmosphere and great staff. See you soon."

"Sorry to say we were disappointed. We stayed and ate here for 2 nights in November ‘23 then again earlier this week (March ‘24) ; hoping that after the refurbishments that the hugely positive reputation and eye watering price tag were well placed conclusion? no, not really. Room lovely and comfortable but sadly only those without dogs qualify for the sea view option. Dinner: some really excellent dishes although pretty small and very expensive. A few strange misfits: smoking potatoes really doesn't work the very strong bitter flavour overpowering all else; also seasonal greens are great but another strong flavour and these were the only vegetable sides on offer, besides chips. Breakfast was very surprisingly disappointing: the only bread available was supermarket white sliced (peculiar after we had the most fabulous crusty homemade bread with dinner the previous evening). Otherwise, such an old fashioned offering (the orange juice and marmalade are excellent though). Just a couple of Kellogg's type choices of cereal. The closest thing to muesli and fresh fruit they suggested came as a soup plate full of plain granola and a second soup plate full of tinned fruit salad. hmm. Bacon thick and not crispy and eggs overcooked. Background music we felt was inappropriate with the same type piped relentlessly at all times of day: lots of early rock&roll and raucous R&B. However, the staff are all just lovely we enjoyed meeting them all and lots of other guests; and the location is fabulous. We just feel that it doesn't quite hang together yet and really wasn't value for money."

"We stayed in this beautiful hotel before going on a cruise from Southampton. We had read about this amazing restaurant so were excited to eat here. The service was shocking. We had been in the spa since we arrived so we deliberately booked a late dinner to avoid the rush. It was clear that it had been extremely busy before we arrived but when we arrived most people had finished eating. We stood at the point waiting to be seated for over 10 minutes as staff walked past us many times with their heads down. They had nothing in their hands so we didn’t understand why people kept walking past us but no-one would seat us. Then this was the same for the rest of our evening. We waited over half an hour after being seated to be offered drinks, then another 15 minutes before we ordered. We were becoming more and more aware that it was getting later and maybe the kitchen would close. My husband actually let out a dramatic noise at one point saying that he was dying of hunger while staff walked past. I of course was embarrassed but we were still ignored. When we did eat the food was delicious but the service was the worst I have ever received anywhere. We asked to take our dessert to our room as it had got so late. My husband ordered a chocolate dessert that was given in a box to take to the room. Our breakfast experience was better as we were staying in the hotel but I have never received such terrible service before or since."
