"First visit, while visiting the area, specifically to see a football match. Had pre-booked a table and was allocated a booth with our own screen, giving an uninterrupted view of the game. We didn't eat so can't comment on the food although the menu looked tempting. The beer was good though. Friendly staff and good atmosphere made for an enjoyable visit. Pity our team lost the football game."

"Ordered 2 fish, 2 chips and a sausage two hours before it eventually arrived. Hardly a difficult order. No apology from driver. No apology from restaurant after phoning 2 3 times the woman at the restaurant said our order was ‘en route and would be seconds’ 15 minutes later, nothing. 25 minutes later, nothing. Rang to get a refund after, when 2 hours had surpassed, the food was cold and inedible, and got extreme animosity down the phone and ignorance. Told me to contact Uber directly, who, in themselves, are quite difficult. Aggressive tone throughout, seems to be a common theme there. Still, no apology Twice we’ve ordered from here now and been left with a poor taste in our mouths. Would avoid completely. Poor service, poor quality, poor timing. Poor everything. I could go on, but the poor people over there might have a bullying claim against me lined up."

"The service at this cafe is absolutely terrible. It is run by two young girls and an older woman who seem completely clueless. The wait time was incredibly long, the Baked Potato was undercooked, and the sandwiches were haphazardly placed on the table before we had to wait an additional 30 minutes for canned soup. We overheard a phone call where an online delivery order was cancelled due to the delay, and the woman in charge told the customer to take it up with Deliveroo for a refund. The table was dirty with crumbs everywhere, and the staff seemed more focused on online orders than serving in-store customers. Hygiene was also lacking, as only one staff member sporadically wore a face covering and there was no effort to ensure customers were using track and trace."

"Lovely atmosphere, warm welcoming staff, great service, lovely food. First time visiting and will definitely be going back again. Good value for money. I'm used to high end establishments but The Fish on The Quay didn't disappoint! Went to celebrate mums birthday. Mum can't tolerate any pepper or hot spices, so the salsa verde with the sea bream was left, however, the rest of the meal was fabulous. I had panko herb-crusted salmon. Again extremely tasty and the accompanying salad was truly fantastic! My son had the classic pizza which was much enjoyed. He is quite difficult to please as has high functioning autism. He also felt really comfortable which is a rarity. I think the friendliness of the staff and the pleasant atmosphere helped him to feel safe. Dessert was equally as tasty and very satisfying. Mum was raving about how tasty the ice cream was which came with her peach clafoutis. My treacle tart was amazing! Fantastic evening which will become one of our happy memories after the pandemic year's."

"the name is what attracted me to this place to be a great fan of the romans, and this place in my neighborship was a perfect excuse to have another dinner outside. Of course, not doing anything with the book, the decoration is still not bad. I think they had recently redeveloped it. they have a 2 for 1 offer of cocktails at the weekend, in the evening, so we started the evening with cocktails that were good and for the discount, a very good offer. eating is average, I ordered artichoke and brie tart, which was quite good, but the fish cake (in general) was very good, nothing great about it. also they can make so much better with their service, but a large room for improvement there."

"We visited on a Sunday lunchtime in early August to celebrate a couple of birthdays. We had booked and were offered a table inside the restaurant (pub? which was all but empty while it was a nice day outside. We asked if we could be seated outside to be able to enjoy the weather and to watch the world go by. We were told very rudely If there 's a table out there then you can eat out there, but you can 't run a tab and you have to order at the bar . We did as we were told, trying to make light of the rudeness. To be fair, it was only one of the staff who had this unfortunate attitude. We ordered drinks at the bar and then our food There 's a 30 minute wait the rude server told us. Dressed Crab, Mussels, and a fish and chips. Turned out there were no mussels left, so we ordered another fish and chips. The food, when it arrive (not as long as 30 minutes was ok, but only ok. My mother 's fish and chips was overdone and dry. Mine was less well cooked, but still rather bland and fish was dry. The whole experience was rather disappointing. We cut our losses and left to eat an ice cream elsewhere. It would hurt any of the staff to crack a smile and perhaps a lesson in manners and customer service wouldn 't go amiss."

"The food is amazing that I was in Turkey before and I tell you her food is still the best I ever had! The meeting is well marinated and the meat is so tender and juicy. The sauce is amazing! "Ashoka South Side was a disappointment. I booked a table for Christmas Day with the promise of a glass of fizz on arrival, only to be offered a mocktail instead. It wasn't until I questioned this and showed my own copy of the menu that the promised fizz was granted. Two weeks before Christmas, we were asked to pay in full for our meal, but I was asked to pay in cash even though I preferred to use my card. On Christmas Day, despite enjoying the food, the restaurant had overbooked and took my dad's seat away, leaving us cramped on a couch against the wall. The food at Ashoka is nice, but usually lukewarm. I had to ask for my chicken to be reheated on Christmas Day. We received a voucher for £10 off our next meal, but when we tried to use it in January, the staff member was confused about the terms and conditions. The voucher stated a minimum of 2 people, but the staff member insisted it was for a maximum of 2 people. The staff member also failed to mention that the voucher couldn't be used with the pre-theatre menu until we tried to pay. When I asked to see the terms and conditions on the voucher, none were provided. Our bill came to £87, so with the voucher it would have been £77, but the staff member refused to honor it. As someone with a background in International Business Law, I know that failing to clearly state the terms and conditions of a voucher is breaking the law. The staff member's insistence on not providing the discount has led me to decide not to return to Ashoka. The food is good, but not exceptional, and I would rather dine at a place that values customer loyalty. It's a shame, as Ashoka is a local restaurant with potential, but the lack of transparency and customer care has left a sour taste in my mouth."

"We have ordered from here several times and normally it's excellent, however the last order wasn't ideal. Collected food from restaurant which gives you a discount however the prices I paid was more than those shown on the menu. I rang them to point this out only to be told it was my mistake and the discount had already been applied? We then opened our order and a portion of rice was missing! "We have visited this restaurant before and found it to be a pleasurable experience. We have always been impressed with the separate vegetarian/vegan options. However, on this most recent visit, it seemed as though we had stumbled upon a different place. On arrival I informed staff that we had booked a table. We were told to go and pick a table, so there was no specific one reserved. The menu did have a vegetarian/menu but not as extensive or as interesting as before. My starter of hummus was not the smooth silky delight I had been expecting but was more like chunky mashed chick peas . Two of the main courses sweet potato burger and a lion burger were OK, but nothing special. My main of marinaded portobello mushrooms was so overpoweringly flavoured with ginger that I only managed to eat a third of it. The predominant flavour of the seafood risotto was cheese. The clearing of the table was quite sloppy, napkins, cutlery and food were not cleared away before the dessert course. My ice cream again was nothing special and was unnecessarily decorated with what I thought were inedible silver balls. I didn't want to risk a dental accident by trying them. The most disappointing aspect of the evening was the fact that it was a special occasion. I had spoken to a young man on the phone to arrange a different start time and had told him that we would be celebrating our wedding anniversary and my husband's 70th birthday. In the event, no mention was made of it at all. I was not expecting any complimentary items but a mention of the occasion would not have gone amiss. I cannot understand the dramatic change in the service and standard since our last visit. A very underwhelming experience which we shall not be in a hurry to repeat. Such a shame."

"I’ve never given 5* for a review before. I had high expectations after watching Dion two years in a row at the Newport food festival and having tasters of food he prepared in front of us as an audience. This year they gave out a voucher, so an excuse to visit! I went for date night with my partner, a fairly local pub for us. As we approached the bar we were greeted and seen to, drinks in hand we made our way to comfy sofas to wait. Its didnt seem like waiting, we were able to enjoy our drinks in a relaxed, warm atmosphere with the buzz of other peoples concersation in the background. Given a menu to ponder, our orders were taken whilst still in the sofa. A few moments later we were seen to our rable, coats taken for us and met with our starter. Plentiful bread and olives platter to start with oils and butter. Shortly after our mains arrived, blade of beef with the poshest but tastiest mash ever with a gravy to leave you wanting more. And a steak with proper chips and tasty side sauce. The portions were generous and we we did not feel rushed, nor asked about our food whilst with a mouth full (which always seems to happen). Ambience thoughout was lovely and the decor refreshing. Final check the toilets, modern, clean and freshen up toiletries for the women which was a lovely touch. We left wanting to return, possibly sooner rather than later to try out the desserts and other tempting dishes. Thank you to the staff, two men and a women that served us you’re a credit the team and kitchen staff it goes with out saying you’re in the right job! I would recommend this place for food to anyone!"

The people there were incredibly loud, enough to visibly disturb everyone else, and nobody did anything about it. The food was badly seasoned and cooked. The portions were tiny. Never come here, never. It is a terrible hotel restaurant."
