"We ate here twice on a short stay and it would’ve been three times if they opened on Monday! We had garlic bread with cheese, scallops, fish and chips, smoked haddock risotto and roast chicken and enjoyed every dish. The whisky in the Cranachan was hard to detect but as we’d just done the 3 distilleries, we’re giving the chef a pass on this one . Great food, a lovely welcome and service from the team, definitely worth a visit."

"Didnt start great We had booked 3 days before but when we arrived they hadn 't got us down, and blamed 'having a wedding ' as the reason they hadn 't written it. They did (literally) squeeze us in though. Fantastic food a seafood platter and antipasto sharer went down very well... All a bit crammed in like sardines though, to the point where the guy behind kept bashing into me! Also wasn 't keen to see people seating their dogs next to them on the outside seats paws on the table! The toilet signage made me laugh.... I was 'swettie ' but that was the heat of the day (see picture)"

"Came here with my boyfriend for lunch and it did not disappoint. I haven’t been here for a couple of years now but always drive by. When we entered, the big fire was on and we were served by the lovely Jamie-Leigh, who is lovely bubbly member of staff! We ordered the signature and the Cajun burgers, both were delicious. The only thing we could suggest is a little bit more sauce, apart from that everything was great. Thank you for having us and we hope to be back soon! Courtney Rhys"

"Lively little pub, serving food and drink, where you'll be lucky to get a table or a parking space most of summer. Nice location right by the sea so great place to watch the world go by. Had a nice lunch here with friends and it was all around £25. Ordered drinks and sandwiches, which had generous fillings and came with fries and salad. My friends ham was a bit too thickly sliced for my liking, but they loved it and my grated cheese and pickle was just right for me. Will definitely visit again."

"It was just great to get back to a favourite venue for lunch. We had not been out for lunch more than a couple of times since the start of the lockdown and decided on the spur of the moment to go for a lunch...at the Battle Axes. Spacious car park which is always a plus. Warm welcome from Amanda. We hadn’t booked but she found us a table. Drinks were served and after a look at the extensive menu we were soon served. We both enjoyed our meal. It was good to be back and felt like visiting dear friends. Coffee was good. Toilet was spotless. All together a good visit back at last to a favourite pub. Thank you Amanda. Hope to see you again very soon."

"This lovely pub offers excellent service and is dog-friendly. They have a variety of options for those with dietary restrictions, including vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free dishes. While their beer selection is limited (only one on tap), they have a great variety of spirits available. We look forward to returning to try some of their gin options. We tried the vegetarian Sunday roast, which included Stilton, mushroom and spinach Wellington, roast potatoes, vegetables, and a Yorkshire pudding. The portion sizes were very generous and the meal was delicious. We will definitely be back!"

"Phoned to say we would be 10 minutes late for our booking, and got a lovely friendly staff. Got there and then had to wait till the two bar persons finished their wee chat so we waited longer. Then was seated next to a loud party (rest of restaurant empty). We asked to be moved, and they did this pleasantly, but i think this confused them. Our starter took ages, several wine options not available, and several main courses not available. After finishing our starter, we then waited, and waited, and waited after an hour of waiting, we went to remind the bar staff we were waiting. When our main courses turned up, we were told that we had to wait until the party of 14 had finished! Food okay, but the wait really put me off. It was a rainy Friday night, but if you were to come her on a sunny summer night, the place (I assume) would be full and client would get upset at the wait. I would be hard pushed to return, no apologies for the wait, etc. Need a manager there to manage."

"we arrived yesterday on 18th October 2017 with the family 7ppl without booking to the white eagle, we were greeted by a beautiful dame that made the place for us and we ordered our drinks and eat. when our food began to come out there was a stream cut, but came back, then it went off completely while we eat. the dame and a man came by and were very apologetic, but it was made for a past, but it never disturbed us how it was easy. eating was amazing and so are the employees. keep them the good work."

"Always a warm welcome from the staff and the menu offers a range of wholesome food that represent good value for money. Gin lovers should try the range of specialty gins especially nice to drink in the garden during the summer months. To top it all, they show their support to the local community by offering a good military discount."

"I had a fantastic meal that offered great value for both the quality and quantity of food served. The prices were very reasonable, especially when considering the various promotions advertised around the restaurant, which featured good offers available on different days. I will definitely return and highly recommend it to everyone! xx"

"I pre booked a table and when we arrived the lady was very pleasant and welcoming, we ordered drinks and were taken to our table. The pub was very cosy and warm. We ordered food and it arrived not long after, the food was presented lovely and the portions were large, the battered haddock hung of the plate, the mushroom risotto was very tasty and I had perfect poached egg perched on top of 2 thick pieces of smoked haddock. Atmosphere and service was perfect, thank you"

"I had a lovely meal with my family, and everyone really enjoyed their dishes. I ordered the shoulder of lamb, which was exquisite. Although we had to wait for a bit, a coworker came over and inquired if we had visited since the reopening. They kindly guided us through the restaurant and explained the one-way system in place. The restaurant is very well organized, and we consistently appreciate the service we receive. Dining at Skyley House is always a delightful experience for us."

"I visited The Griffin Inn today with 8 of my family to celebrate my mother 's 96th birthday with lunch out. My sister and mother had visited the previous week and were served nice food in the bar area. However, the food today was awful. The batter on the fish and onion rings was flacid and undercooked, my husbands brunch was one overcooked sausage, one rasher of bacon, one half of raw tomato, two small hash browns, one hard fried egg and a lake of baked beans. With it were two slices of white sliced bread spread with, what was said to be butter, but was a pale magarine colour. My husband asked why it wasn 't toast and was told other.people prefer bread, with no offer to toast it. My sausage and mash was two re-cooked sausages which were poor quality on a bed of undercooked mash complete with lumps. The onion gravey was gloopy and a packet mix and had never seen an actual onion. Our friend chose the curry, rice and naan from the menu but was served a garlick naan, which she could not eat. The curry portion was also very small. The two burger meals were OK but the skin on fries needed further cooking. Two of our party were lucky.enough to order scampi with fat chips and had a good portion of simple food. All the food came out with delays so we didn 't eat together as a group. As it was such a special birthday I did not complain until my mum had left. I spoke to the waitress who apologised but made no offer to speak to a manager or to refund any monies. I asked to talk to the chef who had gone home. This was less than an hour after we had eaten. The after service was poor, but the food was a disgrace. I am left never wanting to visit again. As we exited we saw the sign for Fine Dining displayed, which was ironic. Price per person: £10–20 Food: 1 Service: 1 Atmosphere: 1"

"On a dark, rain-soaked night with strong winds howling outside, stepping into this cozy restaurant was a delightful escape. The warm glow of candlelight and the beautiful seaside artwork on the walls created a wonderfully inviting atmosphere. However, the true highlight of our visit was the attentive staff and the outstanding food. They even treated us to dessert after the kitchen had closed! I’m puzzled by some of the negative reviews, as our experience was entirely different. The service we received was on par with what we've experienced at Michelin-starred restaurants. The tableware was immaculate, and we never waited long for anything. Our server continually checked in to ensure everything was perfect and even prepared an excellent whisky cocktail for my husband. P.S. I highly recommend trying anything with langoustines and the sticky date pudding. (Sorry, no photos— we were too busy enjoying the delicious food in front of us!)"

"We returned this year for dinner after having a lovely experience last year. We ordered a starter and main, the starter we both chose as the ‘New Forest Rosary Goats cheese’. This was advertised as being served with walnuts, apple and a honey dressing at a cost of £9. When it arrived it was simply a bowl full of lettuce leaves with a sprinkle of goats cheese and 5 slices of apple. We were both hugely disappointed as this was definitely not as advertised. We expressed our disappointment and returned the dishes. We explained that the description was misleading and that our expectation was of majority goats cheese with walnut apple and the dressing not 80% lettuce which was in fact not even mentioned. We had a nice main course, although our experience was now dampened but the height of our surprise was when the bill was presented with both starters still being charged for. We questioned this and the lady said she felt they shouldn’t be removed just because we didn’t like them! She completely missed the point and in the end reluctantly agreed to remove one. We paid to avoid further embarrassment (for them as an establishment) and left quietly, without tipping them and vowing never to return again. The moral of the story here is ‘should a bowl of lettuce comprise reputation and the retention of customers??’"

"We hadn't dined at this restaurant since COVID, but we returned with our family for Sunday lunch. The service and food were outstanding, with a great selection on the menu, generous portions, and reasonable prices. We were pleased to have found a new favorite spot to eat, especially after many local establishments have closed recently. We highly recommend this restaurant and will definitely be returning."

"Hugely disappointed with Sun Dancer, we’re in Nairn for 3 nights visiting from Edinburgh, we booked two nights at the Sun dancer as we’d visited and enjoyed dinner last year. Tonight was so disappointing, it was dire. I had the fish and chips, it should have not left the kitchen, not sure what quality control the chef has in place but any decent chef would not send out a dish with chips under cooked and fish with batter that was soggy and bland! I’m not sure if the fish had been frozen and the chips certainly suggested they were frozen. When you are in a party of 4 you don’t want to spoil the atmosphere by complaining but I ate little and did mention to the waitress when the plates were taken, her response was oh they like to get feedback! Really! .. she should have removed it from the bill! My friends mother had lemon posset! It was awful, hard and not as a posset should be, we did complain about that and to be fair to them they removed from the bill. We left a gratuity as it’s not the waiting staff’s issue however, being so disappointed with the quality of food and responses from staff, I unfortunately would not like to go back!"

"We couples) had booked a mid week table at Panis. A warm welcome, a nice atmosphere, comfortable and roomy booth seating and a pleasant decor. Unfortunately, the food did not match up, in any way, to the surroundings. My artichoke casserole' was a...meagre clear broth with a couple of undercooked potatoes, a slimy piece of red pepper, a few beans and some decidedly odd pieces of artichoke covered with two huge slices of bread which added nothing to either the taste or appearance in fact, I left it. I opted for a lemon sorbet which is always a safe bet but was again disappointed by the lack of any finesse with its presentation, and yes it was lemony but of the industrial kind. Other meals looked equally lack lustre but since I didn't try them, I won't comment. I shared a carafe of wine and wished I hadn't. It was pure vinegar with sediment for that added touch of indifference. I think that was the problem. Friendly enough front of house staff, but a kitchen that is either past caring, thinks they can get away with it or just doesn't have the skills. Poor Sardinia."

"We’ve visited a couple of times since the ‘massive re furb’ and can’t recommend it highly enough. For those of you that may have visited previously, and maybe, like us, were not overly enamoured with the food you’ve got to return. A huge improvement. It’s like walking into an entirely different pub. We went on the opening weekend, I had the T bone steak and it was worth every penny. So much som that we returned for my birthday. Great location, with great views and dog friendly. The staff are very friendly and helpful, we’ll definitely be back."

"for lunch. in the future asked with names without request. shown directly to the table. very friendly staff and atmosphere. order as soon as we were finished. eat very good quality. I had gourmet chicken sandwich. it was a tower of chicken, bacon, egg and tomato on the most beautiful sun dried tomato bread. we also had breakfast after staying in premier inn. staff as friendly and efficient. shame no blase, but breakfast excellent. worth a visit."
