"We’ve visited a couple of times since the ‘massive re furb’ and can’t recommend it highly enough. For those of you that may have visited previously, and maybe, like us, were not overly enamoured with the food you’ve got to return. A huge improvement. It’s like walking into an entirely different pub. We went on the opening weekend, I had the T bone steak and it was worth every penny. So much som that we returned for my birthday. Great location, with great views and dog friendly. The staff are very friendly and helpful, we’ll definitely be back."

"Lovely restaurant. Lovely vibe. Dog friendly in seating area which is covered with strong heaters. Food amazing. Ordered whole lobster, crab, huge king prawns, smoked bread, cheese board with dessert wine. Atlantic beer was lovely. Prosecco cold crisp. Served by the beautiful, friendly Lily-Grace last night who gave us the food recommendations. Will definitely be back soon with friends. If you have driven passed, thinking you must try that place.....what are you waiting for? Get in there....you won't be disappointed. ENJOY!!!!"

"Glorious! We absolutely love this restaurant great service (staffs were all smiles and personable), food are absolutely divine (chef showcase cooking technique and executed the dishes really well), family friendly (really good quality kids menu with proper vegetable sides included), baby friendly (baby change facilities included). "we visited to dinner after the administration to pack a storno table, as the restaurant is fully booked. a warm welcome to the arrival and excellent service throughout. we dined from the main menu but next time will try the tasting menu. I had the lamb that was packed with flavors exceptionally and perfectly cooked. my friend went for the duck, which was again perfect great aromen and accompanied by a side of seasonal veg and potato cure. we divided the dark chocolate mousses, the divine was the candied orange peel and the chantilly cream were a decadent supplement. only a picture managed by each of the foods as was too good!"

"I cannot recommend this fabulous place enough. My husband booked a surprise birthday lunch for me and organised for my sister to be there from Eastbourne with her family. Considering we had driven down from North West Cumbria the night before and the logistics of organising a meet up without me knowing was a credit to the staff, especially Georgie and Morgan. They were in on the surprise and the service was phenomenal as was the food. They even came out with a complementary bottle of fizz for me. Thank you again for a very warm welcome. Apologies to the other diners for my screams of surprise and delight when I saw my family waiting for me."

"we arrived yesterday on 18th October 2017 with the family 7ppl without booking to the white eagle, we were greeted by a beautiful dame that made the place for us and we ordered our drinks and eat. when our food began to come out there was a stream cut, but came back, then it went off completely while we eat. the dame and a man came by and were very apologetic, but it was made for a past, but it never disturbed us how it was easy. eating was amazing and so are the employees. keep them the good work."

"I pre booked a table and when we arrived the lady was very pleasant and welcoming, we ordered drinks and were taken to our table. The pub was very cosy and warm. We ordered food and it arrived not long after, the food was presented lovely and the portions were large, the battered haddock hung of the plate, the mushroom risotto was very tasty and I had perfect poached egg perched on top of 2 thick pieces of smoked haddock. Atmosphere and service was perfect, thank you"

"Having visited here in June 2021 and been hugely impressed by the atmosphere, the service (great help with the Sardinian elements on the menu) and the food, we revisited in September 2021 and again in June this year and were really pleased that standards on...all three counts have been maintained. My friend and I shared a magnificent canolo during both of the two recent visits: how on earth the old pathologist in the Inspector Montalbano TV series was supposed to eat four in one sitting is beyond me! Already inked in for a revist during our next trip to Newcastle."

"we have an impromptu lunch. we had to find a waiter to take our order. the starters took old and were tasteless. I even had to wait until my best come after they brought my starter. we were not asked if we were in order for drinks between the curses. the mains took forever! Soggy batteries on my partner fish. my head was pleasant, but eating is just a little overpriced for what it is. we were never asked if everything was in order with our meal. a really nice environment and friendly staff, but bad price-performance ratio not the largest customer service. not even asked on the way out when everything was in order with our meal! they like to take their money .. repaid the obligatory surcharge. will not be back..."

"Ok, so I am a self-confessed food snob. I 'm much happier in a Bob Bob Ricard than in a Chef Brewer. But, every so often my ever so frugal hubby wants to trade in our Tesco vouchers for a meal deal. So I reluctantly visit Pizza Express 's and Chef Brewers within a 20 mile radius of our home. On this occasion we opted for the Red Lion and my goodness am I so glad we did. Within minutes of being seated our lovely waitress came over to take our drinks order. I had noticed that mine and my hubby 's 'specials ' menus were different, so wanted to clarify if they had the fillet steak offered on one of the menus. Our waitress quickly checked on her tablet and confirmed they had one fillet steak left, she kindly offered to get the kitchen to reserve it whilst we perused the rest of the menu, which was much appreciated. She returned shortly after with our wine and we ordered the fillet steak and a rib eye steak. The food arrived quickly and was both piping hot and surprisingly high quality and really tasty. The fillet steak was cooked to perfection and cut like butter. A lovely young waiter came to clear our plates soon after we finished and asked if we wished to see a dessert menu, which we happily accepted. Shortly after our delightful waitress returned to check we had been offered dessert also. I had the trio of desserts which were all incredible, my husband loved the chocolate brownie. Our service from start to finish was exceptional with each server taking time have a chat with us and make us laugh. It was a wonderful experience from start to finish. I 'm still going to want to dine at Bob Bon Ricard now and then, but if I ever want a decent meal where I 'm treated like a local, I 'll definitely choose the Red Lion again."

"My wife and I called in for lunch on recommendation of friends. It was about 1.30pm, Wednesday 23rd August, 2023. There were a few dining which is always a good indication on the quality of the food. Especially when it was very quiet on the roads and around the villages. Service was very good but I want to comment on my lunch. I cannot remember enjoying fish and chips as much as I have anywhere else for a really long time. The fish was a decent size, but it was the batter which was so light and, was more of a tempura batter. It was fabulous, served with nice chips and really good mushy peas. My wife had the crab sandwich which she said was nice but for me this review is about my fish and chips. It was so nice I had to speak to the owner to let her know. I would definitely go back and definitely have the fish. I would recommend this to anyone passing or planning a day out. Plenty of parking in the car park and the restaurant and bar were spotlessly clean. From what I saw, all the food coming out of the kitchen looked fabulous. A credit to the owner for the restaurant and the quality of the food. My wife says she always knows when I enjoy my food as I'm very quiet apart from the moaning noises as I'm devouring what's on my plate. I'm not the easiest person to please either but this is right up there for enjoyment. Superb. Thank you"

"quite simply a fantastic place for those with zöliakie or allergens, the menu is clearly marked, the personal is attentive and knowledgeable. the manager was insecure when I returned the ingredients in the orange pudding so spined down into the kitchen with a list, now that is what I call service honesty, which is always calming. the seabass was absolutely boiled to perfect the aromes and the presentation of our family dinner was not in lulworth the place, it was all rounded off by the best pimm cup I had lived in my."

"I come into the Grange when I visit from France to work with english disabled people. I am very impressed with Chloe, she could not do more for my family. This evening I came in alone and she recognised me straight away and knew my drink and had the time to sit and speak with me. Hopefully she will be again when I visit in December with family. There is no fault with anything, that's all I can say. And I used to own a restaurant that my son has bow taken over. I would highly recommend! If I came again and Chloe wasn't there I don't feel it would be the same. I'll be in again on 17th December for dinner."

"This is a lovely place to come and eat with friends or family. I visited my sister and she had booked us a table. We were greeted by a very polite and friendly lady who directed us to our table and explained how things work as she handed us our menus. We ordered drinks and were left to chat and browse the menus. The place felt very homely and it was easy to feel relaxed. The menu featured a good round of choice for most people and prices looked very reasonable. We were not hassled for our menu choices like some places. The waitress popped by to inquire after a good while but had been around not far away if we had needed her sooner. She was very friendly and polite with just the right amount of small talk to make us feel that she was pleased we were here. (sorry.. did not recall her name We all ordered different meals, but each one was delicious and well prepared. Good even temperature and good taste. We all ordered dessert too which was also very nice. Portions are generous so there was no skimping there. Toilet facilities looked clean and well maintained. Would recommend this place highly. Nice atmosphere, lovely staff, good food and great prices :"

"Nice meal out at @axe_cleaver tonight... I had the very tasty boneless beef rib with some very rich gravy, mash and veg followed by a gorgeous bakewell tart and custard...! Tried the @jamesonuk orange whisky...! Very nice indeed...! SO nice I even created a new drink of a hot chocolate with a shot of the orange whisky in and Terry's chocolate orange would be jealous how nice it tasted...! Even had to call at Tesco on the way home to grab a bottle to have some more when I got home...! Thanks to the smiling Beacon Brian (Dawn serving us with a smile and pleasant conversstion...!
