"We enjoyed ourselves at The Well on an early Sunday evening. The waitress for some reason couldn't identify my Opentable reservation in their system, but once I showed her my confirmation email, she was absolutely fine about accepting it and granted us the offer. The staff were friendly and were very flexible as we were a group of three which suddenly grew to a group of five and it was no problem immediately moving us to a larger table. The wine options were good and I enjoyed a nice glass of red and my friends found the various white wines and rose very palatable. We were able to use our off food only offer on the specials menu as well as the main A La Carte menu. It was just a risotto dish that we were told we could not order. We would have found the prices quite expensive otherwise (although it probably reflects the location, being Clerkenwell) but the service and the quality of the cuisine is very good. Three of us totally enjoyed the hearty, generous half Chicken Sunday Roast. It came with so many delicious extras and trimmings and was prepared really well... the hake dish that my other two friends chose seemed to go down very well also, infact they allowed one friend to create a dish with the roast's vegetables. He was chuffed. All the puddings were a real delight too. My chocolate dessert was scrumptious with a delicious sauce. All in all a very good experience was had at The Well and we would certainly return there!"

"Outrageous expensive Sandwich and fries. Ordered as per request from QR code on the table. I ordered tomato and cheese with fries and a pint of Camden. What arrives was a very sorrowful thin granary sandwich with what looked liked ready made chive and cheese mush. Then to be told the QR code was wrong for this pub and they guessed , did it have Camden so offered Peroni. My wife had fish fingers on Brioche with chips in included at £10.95 far more value than the miserable wrong sandwich that was supplied at £8.45 plus fries at £3.95. The more I write the more angrier I find myself. The staff apologised that it was the system. As one has already paid via the QR code, you have already paid your money before seeing the food. Absolute miserable, far better value down the road at the riverside cafe in Bensons, much better place and food value excellent. This is an outrageous ripoff for this sandwich. I should also add that the Bill you are invoiced by Email doesn’t add up. It’s beyond me no matter how I interpret the vat on drinks and food which were both matched as 20%. Avoid there are far better value places. Maybe if my dissatisfaction at the time that I shared with the waiters was not so care freely ignored and unaddressed I could have been placated. That being said if the right sandwich had turned up it probably would have been woefully miserable . Food drinks: Outrageous expensive Sandwich and fries. "This was an interesting experience. We had booked 5 people on groupon, for £23 pp, which included a 3 course meal, glass of prosecco, and the show. One of our party fell sick that day, so couldn 't join us as we had paid in advance we wanted to make sure we were still served her food so we wouldn 't waste any money. The woman at the door said this was fine but we were to let our server know. Our waitress introduced herself and poured our glasses of prosecco I had to ask for a top up as it wasn 't a full glass, but she politely obliged. She said it was no problem about our missing guest and that we would still be served her food. We were served our starters very soon after sitting down, which were good but lukewarm, probably due to sitting around in the kitchen after being pre prepared but couldn 't really expect anything else. We had to ask again for the waitress to serve the missing guest 's starter dish, but she did bring it eventually. The show was good in addition to the host/presenter singer, there were only 3 different acts, but they were all skilful and professional probably the highlight of the night. Our waitress had told us filming was not strictly encouraged, but if it was just on our phones then it was fine. However during one of the acts I was told off by another waitress for taking a snapchat (despite everyone else having their phones out). The meal was served throughout the show during the intervals. We asked for the bill before the end of the show to avoid the rush of everyone trying to pay at the same time. The waitress brought the bill we had purchased an additional 4 glasses of wine, at £5 £9 each, but after our groupon discount, the outstanding amount to pay was a whopping £120 something! We called the waitress back and told her there was a problem. Firstly, there was an extra £10 drink that no one had ordered, and all of the sizes of our wine glasses were wrong. They had also charged us £3 for a 'brochure ' (which we had no intention of buying), and a 12.5% service charge, despite our party of 5 being under the 6 person minimum for this obligation (as detailed in the T&Cs). Most obviously though, there was a charge for £63 Saturday night which didn 't make sense to any of us. Our waitress was unable to explain the additional items on the bill, so called her manager over. The manager sat down at our table and asked what the problem was. I explained the £63 charge shouldn 't be there, and she tried telling us that it was the cancellation fee for our friend that couldn 't make it. I explained that there should be no cancellation fee, as we still made use of all the food we had paid for in advance. Then she changed her story to it being the full price of 1 person 's ticket, as there is no voucher for a single person on groupon , but we showed her our booking confirmation and that we had indeed paid £23 for everyone. She resigned and told us it must be a mistake. We explained the other errors on the bill and she quickly agreed to get rid of them. One final thing to watch out for all the waitresses ask that you give the venue a 5 star review on tripadvisor, and mention the waitress by name, in order to receive a free shot. Looking through the tripadvisor reviews, it 's clear everyone fell victim to this scheme and explains why the reviews are so consistently high! The fuss with the bill certainly put a dampener on the night, but at least, after the initial struggle, it was quickly resolved by the (somewhat reluctant) manager. I wouldn 't have paid the full £55ish pp price for this night, but given we had only spent £23 , it was a good night. It would have received a 4/5 star review for this price if the issues with the bill and the tripadvisor bribe had not happened. If you go here, make sure to keep an eye out for surcharges on the bill!"
