"This was one of the worst dining experiences I've ever had. On New Year's Eve, there were only four of us in the restaurant—until another group of four very unhappy guests arrived. The loud rock music from the bar was completely inappropriate for the setting. Despite the stressed and apologetic waitress and our efforts to have it turned down, nothing changed. The atmosphere was completely lacking, so we tried to make the best of it by turning off the lights and enjoying our fairly decent meal by candlelight. We were eager to leave this disappointing place, so we skipped dessert and coffee. The starters and main courses were fine, but overall, it was quite a letdown."

Wow, well this was such a great stay. Unplanned and unexpected but it certainly delivered! The staff were absolutely fantastic. Helpful, informative and efficient. The food was brilliant (dinner and breakfast) The room was perfect for a much needed chill out, even down to the quirky rubber duck. Totally recommend this place over anywhere else locally. It shows as a 2 star hotel on here, which is completely wrong. Hopefully this can be updated and a true reflection is given. Thank you to the team!

One of the worst dining experiences I've ever had. On New Year's Eve, the four of us arrived at the restaurant, which only had a few other disgruntled customers. The loud rock music coming from the bar was completely inappropriate for the setting. Although both the stressed waitress and we tried to get it turned down, our efforts were in vain. There was no ambiance whatsoever. We made the best of it by dimming the lights and eating our fairly decent food by candlelight. We were ready to leave this disappointing place without even bothering to order dessert or coffee. The appetizers were acceptable, but that was about it.

"We have been visiting The Chequers at Burcot for years, it used to be ok but recently the prices have increased and the quality of the food and the service has dropped. I took my mum for a NYE dinner and her £36 fillet steak arrived like charcoal, mine was less burnt but not right. The fries were greasy and cold and the mac cheese looked worse than store bought. Upon pointing out the charcoal steak to the waiter, he told my mum to try it, she might like it and proceeded to walk off in a huff. When he returned to the table with condiments, my mother informed him that a he didn’t like it. He was then even more obstinate, saying “this steak is cooked by Steve Sanderson, the owner and that is cooked correctly, plus you wanted it cooked well done”. At this point I informed him she would not be eating it and it needs to be changed, he ripped it from the table and stormed off. Following this service, we decided that we would not be continuing the meal, I spoke to another server/FOH and told her we would be paying for the drinks but nothing else. I realise that she was trying to apologise, but there was no amount of touching my shoulder that would make me change my mind. And felt like an invasion of my space. So we paid for the drinks and walked out. On the way out, another server joyfully said ‘I doubt I will be seeing you again, maybe on the street’ Thanks to Steve Sanderson and the team for ruining our NYE."

"I have had a few take away meals from The Vine Spice and enjoyed them, so my wife and I treated friends to a meal at the restaurant there. Sadly and surprisingly I was extremely disappointed. One of our friend 's found that the chicken in their meal was undercooked (it was still pale pink and highlighted this to staff. It was taken away and a replacement given. The chicken in this was cooked fine, but the sauce was now much more watery and lacked flavour due to this (the other had a nice, thick creamy sauce . My wife and I are both vegan and member of staff taking our order didn 't seem too sure what this meant. During our meal, we had 3 different members of staff coming up asking us the same questions rather than one member of staff being given responsibility for this role. All the staff were very polite, but it was a little disconcerting to be trying to have a conversation only for another member of staff interrupt to ask a question asked a few minutes previously (e.g. whether everything was alright, whether we required any more drink etc. Our vegan curries had several hard pieces of veg (we don 't overcook our veg and enjoy a slight bite to them, but numerous bits of veg were virtually raw and must 've been chucked into the sauce moments before dishing up and my wife found some onion with the root still attached. Also, I did find the meal to be expensive for what you get. Given this experience, I won 't be getting any more meals from The Vine Spice ."
