"Wasn’t sure what to expect, it was a last minute booking on Father’s Day and they had a vacancy for five and a dog! Tables outside with a gazebo and a singer setting up, but we’d elected an inside table as there was a chance of rain. Directed to our table which had a reserved sign. Table layout was spacious, distance between tables was good most venues seem to cram the tables in to maximise profit. Roast diners of lamb, beef or turkey with roast pots and seasonal veg, there were about 10 12 other main courses covering pies, fish, salad and lasagna etch plus a selection of children’s meals. You go to the bar to order your food and drinks. I opted for the steak and ale pie, chips and peas, it said there was optional seasonal veg but they sent that out anyway. Daughter had half roast chicken and others the roast Turkey. The pie was a large portion, pastry thin and the meat plentiful and full of flavour, best I’ve had in ages, the chips large and crispy and the peas were …..peas. All in all a great plate of food. Equally the other meals were generous potions, Turkey and roast potatoes almost filled the plate. The veg was well cooked, not over done and consisted of carrots, cauliflower and cabbage. More than we needed. All meals arrived together and hot, waitresses (2) were good, offered condiments and returned 10 mins later to check everything was ok. Plates cleared but not rushed to leave, declined desserts as we were too full. The bill came to £61.00 for five meals (not including drinks) when I enquired about the service charge, the owner told me it’s not included and declined to take it and politely asked me to pay our waitress direct. Must be a good place to work to have such an honest boss. Would we go back, definitely, would we recommend it, yes but don’t all book at once or we may find it harder to get a table!"

"Before our arrival, we called ahead to reserve a table for Friday evening as we had heard it can get busy and booking in advance was recommended. We made a reservation for 5pm. We had checked the menus online beforehand but were having trouble finding information about the opening hours, which was frustrating as we needed to plan around our children's feeding schedule. Upon arriving at our lodge at 4pm, we searched for information inside about the tearooms and how to get there as we were located on the opposite side. We couldn't find any visible site maps and were pressed for time as our table was booked. Luckily, we encountered a staff member who informed us that it was only a half-mile walk and advised us to call ahead if we might be running late. Upon reaching the tearooms, we were the only patrons there. Even when we left, there were only a few other guests. The staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming. We visited again on Saturday evening and once again found it to be quiet. Despite it being a lovely summer evening, there were no other guests around. It's a shame that guests may not be aware of this wonderful place. The Saturday menu only offered two choices: a meat platter or a meat and cheese platter, which wasn't ideal for children. However, the chef kindly accommodated our kids with plain white bread and child-friendly ham. Overall, we highly recommend it as a place to enjoy a drink, relax, and then take a leisurely stroll back to your lodge."
