"Lovely, quaint and quirky cafe in the middle of the high street!! Went in to Poppins and chose it over the two cafes we passed because of the booth seating (which was very comfortable! Ordered two BLT baguettes and a couple of drinks, reasonably priced and very tasty!! Service was great, staff were very attentive! Will definitely come in again when we are down this way next as we are only on holiday for the weekend. Meal type: Lunch"

"That was my late mom and dad's favorite pub in the forest. Today, after we placed some flowers in Moyles Court, we enjoyed a lovely family meal there. The menu offered a wonderful variety, and the food was served piping hot and tasted fantastic. The staff was excellent, efficiently taking our orders and delivering our meals in a timely manner. Everything felt great, with proper social distancing measures in place. I would definitely recommend this place to everyone!"

"We came in twice over our caravan weekend at the nearby site: At first glance it looks like the sort of local's pub where visitors won't be welcomed, but don't worry the welcome was excellent, as was the food and the atmosphere. We had a table right by one of the fires, and even though the pub was packed our food came quickly and was well made. If we are in the area we will definitely eat here again. "When I first saw the menu, I had some fears that the place would be a sort of throwback to the 1970s, so reminiscent was it of the sort of choice offered back then. But I needn't have worried: Mother Hubbard's is a hidden gem, with fresh food and professional service in smart surroundings. We had a lovely waitress called Lily who was friendly and well-informed. The food was served quickly and was easily the freshest fish and chips I've ever had. Portions are not so big that you have to leave some, as in some competitors, and the prices are good value."

"4 of us went for a meal on a Friday evening, we booked in advance but it wasn't that busy and we would of been able to get a table even if we hadn't. Some of us had starters and mains some had mains and desserts, I was really naughty and had all 3 . The Packhorse is one of those places you wish was closer to home it's a lovely pub with very friendly staff and all of the meals were excellent, we would 100% return if we are ever in the area again. "Went here on Thursday 12th October. We have always loved going here but unfortunately we were disappointed with our visit this time. The prices had risen quite a lot since our last visit. We had regular Haddock and chips but felt it was rather bland, not as tasty as usual. The chips were well cooked, not greasy, but there were a lot of very thin bits. Definitely not up to the usual standard that we are used to here. We added bread and mushy peas but were given a bread bun , not the usual slices of bread. "My previous review was 5 star, Im changing it to one star because after my visit yesterday Friday 13 Oct, I am very disappointed, I orderd a special as usual but I dont know where the fish went, but it was not in the batter, I paid 7 quid for a big scrap with a dash of fish here there, soz but that just dont cut it for me, I would have gone back to complain but had already set off to our next job. My reply to your reply, If I make the effort to visit your shop you should make the effort to be consistent, I do not expect to pay good money for substandard goods, you may consider my review unfair but your service was unfair, thats why I changed my review from 5 to 1."

"I am good and really filled!! Gluten-free menu without asking and options were good. Obviously my whole reason was to go fish and chips and I wasn't disappointed! Was even able to get bread and butter, owner was concerned bread was not on standard, but assured him to apologize for gluten-free bread always for himself and anaemic lol. The staff was nice and friendly and the environment was comfortable left with my food baby and a smile!"

"they had landed and had no table available, they were fully booked, but many tables without reserve marks were available inside and outside. No one welcomes them when they come or inform them about their current capacity, so they only have to around 10min until someone gives any kind of information. we were told that we could have chips and drinks in the garden when we said we would like to eat, not in the snack. we waited for the manager to give us an idea when we have one table or not, but she wasn't there so we decided to go. we were so excited about this place and their menu, but if the staff and the manager are so carefree about their customer service, it is better to avoid only the disappointment."

"Absolutely incredible food, as well as warm friendly service. It has the intimacy and kindness of a mom-and-pop place, but is classy and high-end in its decor. Lovely atmosphere that makes it perfect both for a casual night out and for more official dinners. The portions are very generous, and the price is really a bit lower than I'd expect for the high quality and portions of food. I had the halusky with sauerkraut for my starter, confit duck for my main (which comes with gratin potatoes), and Slovak fruit pudding for dessert. I was more than stuffed by the end (I think 2 courses is enough, here), and everything tasted amazing. My water was refilled periodically without me needing to ask, and the dishes came out quickly. All in all, couldn't have asked for a better night! "Traveling in the area and we had been told to check this place out... Best travel advice we've had! Warm, welcoming and friendly, you just feel relaxed and at home as soon as you step foot in the place... Then they bring out the food. And you see the prices, and you experience the service and atmosphere. And you book in again as soon as you possibly can. We ate the week before at the Hilton in Harrogate... It cost about 10 times the price and was about half as good. Hats off guys... Your place rocks and your food is just delicious. See you Sunday!"

"This is a charming seaside café. The prices are reasonable, and the establishment is very clean. While the service was a bit slow, it’s understandable given how busy they were, which is actually a positive sign! At one point, every table was occupied. "Your chef served me and my wife raw chicken yesterday and the result of that is that my wife has severe food poisoning and has been between the toilet and bed all day, luckily iv escaped it with a few trips to the toilet. If any of the staff read this, you'll know exactly who I am as I confronted the waitresses and showed the chef the uncooked chicken that was served before walking out the restaurant, refusing to pay. This happened approximately 14:00hrs 17/11/2024. Check your CCTV if in doubt. Not even an apology from the chef!!"

"I can't say if it's the best fish and chips in Scotland, but it was definitely my favorite among all the places I've tried (and I've tried quite a few). The portion size is generous for the price, the fish is obviously fresh, and the tempura batter is fantastic—not greasy at all. The homemade fries are absolutely delicious. I also sampled their tartar sauce, which was excellent. The service here is both friendly and efficient. I give it a perfect 10/10. If the weather is nice, I highly recommend enjoying your meal on the benches outside with a view of the sea—it's quite an experience. "What a shame , came a few weeks ago , it was wonderful, staff were very attentive the food was absolutely fabulous, had the eggs, bacon, sausage, mushroom sandwich all good produce. Unfortunately, I dropped in at 3.50 the other day to be told food had stopped. It closes at 5pm, I was offered a drink, cakes were all wrapped up, I asked for a slice of cake, which I did get, but it was obvious the staff were cleaning and wanting to go home. You may want to state on quiet times you stop serving early. This may avoid disappointment to your customers."
