"Travelling with my son to visit a friend living in the nearby village of Staplecross we had been minded to make a brief detour via the popular tourist destination of Bodiam Castle. Time passes all too quickly and in the event we decided to take...lunch at the well known Castle Inn, literally across the road and a short walk away. Welcomed upon arrival we initially planned to eat outside on the terrace, but with the sun shining brightly we headed for the cooler climes of the restaurant. Our starters consisted of Homemade soup of the day (tomato) and samosa served with a pea and potato puree, a mint coconut dip, and a side salad. The mains were Homemade steak burger and chips, cod and chips, and a smoked salmon baguette with salad garnish. Liquid refreshments consisted of a couple of glasses of Sauvignon blanc and a regular supply of coca cola. Throughout the meal the young crew provided a good table service, patient over our somewhat long deliberations with our individual choices, whilst also making several visits during the proceedings to enquire if all was satisfactory. The party were happy enough with their respective dishes and in my own case the smoked salmon baguette is worthy of a mention. To sum up a very enjoyable interlude in an unhurried and clean environment which also included the washroom facilities."

"I went to this restaurant with a friend last night and noticed a lot of new staff, but I was able to recognize the friendly black gentleman. He had a big smile and was very polite and welcoming, making him the perfect staff member to greet guests and visitors. There was also Emily, a sweet and shy girl who was lovely to speak to. Another notable staff member was the gentle giant named Tiny, who was very friendly despite being incredibly tall. The food was fantastic; I ordered the belly pork and it was beautiful. I asked for the crackling to be extra crispy, and the chef delivered just that. We both thoroughly enjoyed our meal and are already looking forward to returning, hopefully next week. A big thank you to everyone who made our dining experience enjoyable. It's not just the delicious food that makes a meal special; the welcoming reception we received also contributed to our overall enjoyment of the evening. We arrived at 6:30 pm and ended up staying until 10 pm because we were having such a great time."

"Went for lunch with family and pub had about 3 tables in and waited 45 min for food however it was worth the wait excellent food. Visited today although the weather has been bad we couldn't get over how bad the back has started to look. every single table and chair was mouldy and dirty we actually had to ask for blue roll to clean before we sat down. All the covered areas had mold and covered in lots of cobwebs all over. Looked very unloved. Extansion leads damp and covered in cobwebs. The back garden used to be so nice.. What a shame."

"I want to thank everyone who helped from start to finish with organising this surprise party on saturday. Every single member of staff made it easy...from answering my many emails, helped set a menu for everyone to choose from. Every email was met with kindness, helpfulness and lots of patience haha. You helped accommodate my allergies and made sure i didn't feel like a nuisance. The whole team from waiting staff, kitchen staff, management were incredible on the day. Nothing was too much trouble and they were so friendly and helpful. They all had a smile on their faces. I honestly couldn't fault a single thing. I would 100% recommend you all to anyone who asks. Food was amazing, staff were too. Atmosphere was great. Not one problem at all. Thankyou for all your help making a wonderful evening out with friends and family PERFECT."

"We was a table of 10 and from start to finish we was waited on by Kelly and Mia. They made sure everything was correct individually. We never had to ask for anything. They interacted with our children making sure they was comfortable at all times (which massively helps) thank you for including them. Amanda the landlady came over to check if everything was ok and gave us a very warm welcome which added to the service. We had Sunday roasts which was exceptional, the meats was cooked to perfection and the veg and trimmings was delicious. We added on the cauliflower cheese which I could share with my partner. Portion sizes was a perfect amount and affordable. This is the third time eating here now and all the times it has been 5* from service to food. Bar staff are very friendly and helpful too. Thank you."

"Trattoria 51, a lovely authentic Italian restaurant, both in food and family. Our party (6) originally had a booking at another restaurant for a birthday meal, however on entering that restaurant, the clientele and decibels were not appropriate for a family affair with two young daughters. Trying to book a table for 6 on a Saturday later afternoon early evening is difficult at the best of times, but running up to Xmas is very difficult. We arrived at Trattoria 51 and the team there were absolutely fantastic! The team were so welcoming, making my daughter's (who were cold and hungry at this stage) feel so comfortable. The team made space for our family party upstairs by making up the tables allocated for another party arriving later that evening. The food was prompt, very nice (pizza and pasta) and not too expensive, the ambience, and atmosphere just right to engage in conversation. I can only thank Trattoria 51 for saving the night for our party and confidently say that I will be returning to enjoy this lovely restaurant soon. Merry Christmas"

"Brett served us..that's what the till said anyway. He remembered the drinks we had ordered when I went back to the bar..(that makes good service. I ordered steak salad my friend ordered tuna melt. My steak salad was lovely except too much dressing might be nice to serve it on the side. My friend is a picky eater but left nothing. No matter it was nice..we finished outside. There was no one else out there...we chattered for a while feeling relaxed..we usually go FT up the road but decided on a change...pleasantly surprised..we will go back next time we meet up. It was Tues lunch time by the way. Price per person: £30–40 Food: 4 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 4"

"Found this pub on Tripadvisor when looking for somewhere after Longleat balloons. Don’t be put off by the website which is a bit clunky and out of date. We’d rung ahead to book, and received a warm welcome, and they had a good selection of draft beers and ciders. Outside was busy, there were plenty of tables inside, although we found one on the terrace. We were advised there might be a wait for food, so we ordered the bread and olives board to keep us going. This was nice, good chunky bread with tasty pesto and chilli jam. I had chicken and chips main, which was generous with lots of parmigiana and fresh veggies. My wife had pulled pork in a bun with chips and slaw, which was lovely, but she struggled to finish. It had a nice friendly atmosphere, lots of dogs (including ours) and staff were all very pleasant, albeit busy. Riverside setting is gorgeous on a summer evening, but I’d imagine it’s warm and cosy inside in the winter too. Seemed very popular with locals, but we were made to feel welcome. Recommended."

"This Thai restaurant is a gem of a one in Hayling island. We ordered some soups, calamari spring rolls to start with. The soups were flavourful had the right spice note. The calamari was fried seasoned perfectly. For the mains we ordered, Pad Thai, egg fried rice, green curry some chicken stir fry. The mains tasted fantastic the presentation of the food was very good. They took enough care detailing on how the food was presented. For example, my starter had a vegetable cut presented like a rose flower. Overall very good experience would definitely recommend this place for anyone who has an appetite for a good Thai food."

"Compact and bijou it may be, but both the welcome and service is warm and friendly. It 's not my first visit here, but this time I went here with my daughter, for her birthday, and her sons aged 9 and 14. The menus have a good selection of dishes, covering all tastes and requirements. Portion sizes are more than adequate (isn 't it amazing how you can be stuffed from your dinner, yet always find room for dessert? Chef was ok to swap out an item on the 14-year-old 's menu choice. I feel that 's important as, even with an adult, it can make or break the ordering of a dish. We left full, satisfied and with a doggy bag of food that we couldn 't eat because we just HAD TO have dessert. (You know how it is, lmao Definitely worth a visit. It 's above 'Sammies ' chip shop at the main traffic lights, diagonally across from Morrison 's in Cardonald (where you can easily park the car."

"Overall, it was a good and classic dining experience. I enjoyed a well-cooked sirloin steak with chips, salad, and delicious onion rings. The dessert was hearty and satisfying. The beer was great, but the Rioja wine did not stand out. The only downside was a confusing billing system that forced one person to foot the bill for the entire group. Additionally, the singer that started performing towards the end of our meal had to lower the volume of her music due to complaints from our group about being able to talk comfortably."

"I have a gluten sensitivity and was excited to order a jacket potato when I went out to celebrate my birthday with friends, but was disappointed to find out that it was no longer on the menu. The only option available for me was gammon, which was not what I had hoped for. I will not be returning to the Haywain, even though it is conveniently located just a 5-minute walk from my house. "Located inside the Islay House hotel. This restaurant serves up top quality meals using only locally sourced ingredients and makes every item fresh to order. The menu changes depending on seasonal offerings and the head chef has zero problem with special requests. We opted for the rare steak salad and seafood chowder as starters and were blown away by the taste, presentation and fair pricing. For our main dishes, we both chose the pan-seared salmon. It was cooked to perfection and served atop a mound of mashed potatoes, a sprinkling of peas and came with a dozen mussels. Amazing. For dessert, the creme brûlée was divine; I would bathe in it if I could. The restaurant is open every day of the week and is open to both hotel guests and non-guests alike. The dining room is set inside the quaint hotel, built in 1677 and is served by candlelight. In other words, you won't find a better ambience."

"I was staying at The Novotel, next door and was staying when the breakfast transitioned from in room to in the dining room. I have been up on a really long work trip working long days for 7 consecutive days. The staff were the only ones I really had interaction within the hotel. The guys were brilliant each morning, renegotiating a space that has been closed for so long. They made me feel valued, took their time to find out how I was, and to notice and remember what I liked. For example, this morning when I arrived, they had my soya milk and orange juice that I had requested each day ready for me. The little things to take the time to care make all the difference. Their interactions were professional and thoughtful. In what really is a challenging time with everything opening up, I wanted to pass on my thanks and compliments to the team and to thank them making my stressful work trip a little easier. Please do pass my thanks onto the girls."

"Just returned after visiting with my husband and young children. On arrival we were seated quickly and the place was busy. First time visitors and on seeing food coming out to other tables, we were impressed. Lovely looking home made Yorkshire puddings and we...were all hungry after a family day out shopping and at the cinema and we were all looking forward to a lovely Sunday dinner. Ordered the Mussels to start with. They were okay, have had better, but wasnt going to complain. After the starter the main courses took absolutely ages, we waited and waited, but it was clear they were busy, so we waited very patiently. They did actually come over to our table in the end to apologise for the wait and assure us our food would be the next meals out and asked if we would like more drinks (ones they tried to charge us for) not complimentary for the wait! When the food finally arrived it looked yummy! All the vegetables are served in separate pots and tiny gravy boats. Once we had dished out our veg and gravy amongst the four of us and started to eat we realised it was extremely cold and i dont mean luke warm I mean flat cold! Tried minutes to get some horseradish sauce to the table to go with the beef and my husband finally stood up and said he was going to complain. After approaching the bar to do so, he had to have an argument with the manager about the quality of our food and she reluctantly agreed to take off two off the four meals off the bill. When the waitess came to clear our plates she had a face like thunder and was clearly being as rude as she possible could. I told her the food would of been nice if it was warm and she replied well you have eaten enough of it and stomped off. I was absolutely furious and on leaving I asked for the manager. I tried to politely explain we would of enjoyed our meals if they had of been served warm, to which she replied why didnt you complain. I explained we had tried ages to get somebodys attention just for some horseradish sauce. She replied the waitress asked you if wanted condiments, but you was too busy sorting out the children. I was furious at her attitude and that of the waitress who cleared our table and when I made her aware of this unacceptable service, she asked me to leave and never come back, this was infront on my year old daughter. Absolutely disgusting response to unhappy customers. Shame on you for making all the excuses under the sun for bad customer service! The prices you charge dont warrant the food or service provided. Get your heads out your backsides and focus on improving your customer complaints instead of being arrogant!"

"The staff at this restaurant are wonderful - welcoming and friendly. They allow dogs in the bar area and even have a menu for dogs. Our puppy was given water without us needing to ask, and we noticed a treat being slyly slipped under our table. The meal was outstanding, as always, and we have never had a bad experience here. The prices are very reasonable. A special mention to Kerry, who is always delightful. 10/10 would recommend."

"Attending the work Christmas meal at first we couldn't get into the place as the front door was locked, but after a short wait in the rain someone came and opened the door we ordered a drink and waited for the rest of our party to arrive. Into the uninspiring dining room not very christmassy) starters came out and were just ok the main course was next again it was just ok but the vegetables were very hard as the chap next to me tried to spear a sprout on his fork only for said sprout to fire over the table. Desert was nice. One side issue we had was my wife decided to have a vape between courses, instead of the hotel staff coming over and having a discreet chat about not being able to vape this surly waitress came over and said a complaint had been made about her vaping and that the hotel will fine you £100 and it will set the fire alarm off. My wife was worried she had upset the other table dining in there so went and apologised to them but they didn't know anything about a complaint being made. It was clear to see that the member of staff had an issue and really needs to be better trained in customer service in fact the staff really need to have a smile and interact with their customers."
