"Communicating with Saikei Restaurant is straightforward and efficient, which is a crucial aspect often neglected by many Chinese restaurants. Additionally, the restrooms at Saikei are clean and spacious, a refreshing change that really impresses my friends and me, especially considering the cramped and less pleasant facilities we've encountered at other restaurants in Chinatown. The food here is delicious, and the service is excellent; the staff is friendly and accommodating. While there's always room for improvement, I genuinely can't think of any suggestions at this moment. I just hope Saikei continues to maintain its high standards."

"We tried this for the first time. Is an improvement on our previous regular eatery. A real high point was the prompt delivery. The food arrived in good time. Some of the dishes were outstanding and would quality this review as 3.5. The char Siu pork with beans sprouts was delicious well cooked, same for the chicken in Szechuan sauce, the seafood Singapore fried noodles was disappointing not enough seafood, just 1 scallop and a couple of pieces of very rubbery squid. The squid starters was ok but served like calamari without enough of the promised garlic and chilli, the prawn starter was ok but for the price we expected king prawns. The starter portions feel mean even allowing for the fact that they’re starters. The prawn fried rice was ok but could benefit from a touch more seasoning. The spareribs were beautifully cooked but too salty. Overall we enjoyed some of the food but due to some of the issues the score is not as high as it could be. We’ll try again but will only persist if the good outweighs the bad."

"There was a gluten-free menu with many options available at the restaurant. The staff discussed with us what options we could have, but seemed a bit confused. While the rest of our group ordered a set meal, there was no set meal for gluten-free options, so we ordered starters and mains separately. This resulted in us waiting for food while everyone else ate. The duck starter was delicious, served with chili sauce instead of hoisin and lettuce leaves for wrapping. It was missing cucumber and spring onion, which the rest of our group had with their duck course. The main courses were tasty, including mango prawns, chicken, and vermicelli. When inquiring about gluten-free desserts, the waiter initially mentioned brownie cheesecake and another option, but upon further inquiry, he informed us that none of the desserts were gluten-free. Despite this confusion, the food was excellent and we are confident that the meals we were served were gluten-free, although it seemed that the waiters may not have fully understood the concept."

"We stayed in Colchester last year and eat at Chinatown, we were impressed by the superb food and the friendly service. We returned to Colchester for a concert and immediately decided that we had to try Chinatown again, we were not disappointed. "We go for the food which is always delicious. Set meal for 2. We have noticed a smaller amount for the entre but still excellent and overall plenty of quality and quantity. We had our desert to go which we enjoyed 2 hours later. Service is always very good. Highly recommended Thai meal."

"Due to covid restrictions, all dining was outdoors. Our table was a bit small, especially as we ordered four dishes with rice. We came here to taste their Singapore chilli crab as we had heard its excellent unfortunately they informed us they had ran out of it during lunch time. We ended up ordering other dishes which didn’t disappoint! Especially the spicy aubergine in yellow bean sauce was excellent! The price was what you’d expect of a restaurant of this quality."

"After I was fan of saigon saigon since 2004 (and was not there for almost so long time) I was happy to come for a Chinese buffet the other day. the restaurant has changed quite since 2004, with a stylish interieur and on the day we visited it was busy, but we waited only about 5 minutes for a table. the buffet food was fresh and tasty, with all favorites like crispy meerweed, spring rolls and chili chicken available and piping hot. the weinlist was also good and there were some options for dessert, although I was too full! will definitely be the best place to enjoy the Chinese buffet in edinburgh. and I also die to try the dim sum as the next table had something and it looked ugly."

"After reading several good reviews for this restaurant we were looking forward to a great meal. We were very disappointed. Food was very average and definitely overpriced. Staff seemed to have no interest in us whatsoever, and I can’t remember any of them even smiling as they served us our food. Certainly, we were not asked at any point whether we were enjoying our meal. We knew from other reviews that the restaurant overlooked a busy bar and there may well be live music playing, but I didn’t expect it to be quite as loud and raucous. We could barely hear one another speak! We dined at 8.00pm and the restaurant was not at all busy, perhaps because of some of the reasons I’ve mentioned."

"this is the best chinese in edinburgh. that is not saying tons, cause it just aint that good here. you want indian, you got the best, chinese is just ehhh. there is one thing they have here which i havent seen in other countries and pretty much the only reason to come here. crispy seaweed. its genius. ive been told its really just fried cabbage, but i dont really believe that. it doesnt matter what it is, it is crispy, flaked perfection with a funky herb thingy on it and peanuts. nothing else is spectacular but get the noodles instead of the rice, not bad. the crispy shredded beef is probably the best and also part of the various set meals you can get if you are dining with others. sit in and delivery. if you get over a certain amount of food, they give you extra crap, ranging from those fish cracker things to an entire second entre, and you dont have to get that much, like 12 or 15 quid worth. good location on the shore in leith, makes a great sunday night to then play pub trivia at the cameo bar or just grab a pint across the street after at carriers quarters."

"If I could rate this restaurant 11/10 I would! My sister and I brought my mum here to celebrate Mother’s Day. We came on the Monday to avoid it being too busy and it was perfect. A lovely quiet atmosphere. It was our first time here and it definitely won’t be our last! The food was superb! We are fussy eaters but we loved every single dish that we had! Our favourites were the satay chicken, super flavoursome and well cooked , prawn and chive dim sums just wow! , salt and pepper prawns and prawn noodles. From the dessert menu we chose the mango cheesecake and the fried custard buns. We were in heaven! Absolutely delicious! We were offered Jasmine tea too which was a lovely touch! The staff were very welcoming, friendly and super attentive. I wish I got their names as they were lovely and deserve to be recognised for their service. We can’t wait to visit again and recommend it to our friends and family!"

"It is NOT the normal Korean style BBQ (in picture) like are accustomed to. It is more like a stir fried food that you cook for yourself over a cooking sheet. The choices are very limited. "Every review says the same across all different review sites – this is 100% a total scam taking people 's money and not sending orders out. Literally the worst service I have ever received from any takeaway in London. Ordered direct via their website and after an hour I called to make sure my order had been received. I was asked for my order number and postcode and told yes it had and the driver was on the way. We live 5 minutes away from them, so when it didn 't arrive in 10 minutes I called again and was told the same. I repeated that process a further two times and was told the same, and that the driver would arrive 'any second '. After an hour and a half I called again and was told the order had never been received and nothing had left the kitchen yet. Their staff lied repeatedly – tbh it sounded like the same guy on each call, including when he admitted the order had never been cooked yet. On one of the phone calls the guy even 'called the driver to see where he was '. Totally mental. I cancelled the order and will be amazed if I see a refund. This is the second time using them and the second time we 've had an issue."

"The food is great, but the management has gone south. The staff seemed over anxious to clear our table literally minutes after they brought the food out. Thereafter we felt like we were being asked to leave every five minutes. The icing on the cake was when they turned on bright lights at (when the kitchen was supposed to close at and we literally had to step over a Hoover to get out. "After being residents in the area for over two years, we finally decided to give The Star of Siam at The Highfield Hotel in East Rainton a try. We booked a table online and were seated at a charming spot near the kitchen entrance, which allowed us to observe and savor all the delectable Thai dishes being prepared. The service was top-notch and the food was simply divine. We weren't rushed to finish our meal, allowing us to unwind and converse after dining. The prices were quite reasonable and there is a lovely bar next door where you can enjoy drinks before or after your meal. They also provide takeout options. We will definitely be visiting again in the future."
