A delightful combination of tender grilled steak and succulent seafood, perfectly seasoned and served with a choice of sides.

"Booked here as there were early evening slots and the reviews were fabulous. Cannot understand how this cafe is rated better than the nearby Plough. Tatty Bunting is a completely different type of eatery. Staff were really lovely and the location was fine BUT the food was only average probably absolutely fine if you are looking for a local cafe but not if you are looking for fine dining. I hasten to add my expectations were raised by the open table reviews I do not feel I was misled by the cafe at all."

"Food was good for the price. The Veggie option was nice, but with such a strong taste was too much and could be done with one side to break it up. Roast was okay. Puddings were nice. The staff was very friendly, had to ask for a drink menu tho."

"This restaurant is fantastic. I went with a close friend who loves meat, and even he was overwhelmed by the generous portion sizes on the platter. We had enough leftovers for another meal the following day. The food was delicious with a wide variety to choose from, and the owner was attentive to our needs. I highly recommend this place to anyone willing to spend around £15 per person for a large and tasty meal."

"good place before eating, but the choice of happy hour cocktails is really limited and we ended up a few bottles of wine! don't think they have choices! I had also mentioned that it was the 50th birthday of my friend, but there was no mention of it during the time we were there."

"We were in Uppingham for the day, so popped in for coffee and cake at lunch time the chocolate orange cake was divine and the staff were knowledgeable about allergens in their food. There was a nice buzz with lots of people eating and drinking families, couples and groups. We went back for dinner, but weren't sure that it would feel like an eatery for the evening, but a slight change in background music made it feel more like a bistro, than a cafe. We ate from the lunch menu and it was the best meal that I have ever had! We had the burger £18) and both of us commented on how tasty the chips were. For pudding, we shared the chocolate torte and, again, the staff knew which allergens it contained. It was delicious! We would definitely go here again and would even consider travelling to Uppingham for an evening meal at Don Paddy's. We have already recommended it to our friends and family."

"Was recommended this place by colleagues and friends, thought I'd give it a try. Upon entering, there was nobody there to assist us to our tables (made reservations prior) so we had to search for someone to get us a table. I ordered the 18oz Iron steak, which was ok, nothing great but not too bad either. I found that the food was overpriced for it to be simply medicore in fact. I ordered a vanilla cheesecake for dessert, it seemed like it was taken out of the fridge straight away and had a very funny damp taste to it- if that makes sense at all. It did not taste fresh or good at all. Was horrible. The Mojitos ordered were bland mostly comprising of ice ratio and less drink- therefore just tastes like bitter water. Overrall, the food was below mediocre and kind of overpriced. On the bright side, the view is nice as its situated on the Westferry riverside overlooking the river Thames. Further, the ambience was good, but that depends if you like loud music and large crowds of noise. Would not be returning here again unfortunately."

"Booked a table for New Years Eve having been told by staff that there would be a Live Band for entertainment On arrival and ordering waitress informed us there was no live band after all because, quote We did not get enough table bookings un quote !! Oh dear, how mercenary and not to mention drumming up trade by false pretences! The piped music was patchy at best and the seasonal decorations very thin on the ground. Don 't know if the establishment stayed open until midnight as we left before this time. Food though was excellent, there again it should be considering what one pays for it."
"excellent sunday roast, tasteful and fast and hot arrived! the child's share of the roast was very generous. great atmosphere and the staff were very friendly and attentive and supplied the children with colour packages, which was very helpful! they were really understanding and excellent to deliver an replacement for one of our meal times, as one of our party had an allergy. in any case would recommend and will return."

"We have come to expect better in this price range. When asked for the reason for our visit, we mentioned it was for a birthday. A small gesture would have been appreciated. On previous visits, they used to offer handmade chocolates, which was a highlight. The farewell gift of herbal salt was a nice touch. Despite the long journey of over 40 km, we will have to reconsider returning next time."

"TBH overall good but I chose Lamb Shank which I had on a previous visit before Xmas and it was excellent. Unfortunately this time it was nothing sort of rubbish. Change of chef maybe or supplier not sure but one or the other needs to be changed. On a positive note my wife had the veggie lasagne which she really enjoyed. Will give it one more try to see if they have improved if not we won't be going again. NB to chef maybe if you had slow cooked the lamb then the problem wouldn't have arose. I believe I was not the 1st to complain."

"The stars are for the staff who were lovely. My friend and I had a jacket potato with cheese and beans. They arrived my friend had about 10 beans on her potato i didn't fare much better. Sent them back, was told they were doing a new order. We had at least 15 beans on this occasion and a bit of melted mild cheese. Wish I had taken a photo as the filling was minute. Won't be going back."

"Last minute decision to go here last night for a meal with friends. The staff were welcoming and went above and beyond so that we enjoyed our evening and didn't feel rushed (we were the last ones out). The food was delicious, plentiful and reasonably priced. Great that you can take your own alcohol. Only slight criticism is that it was really hot in there but that was a small price to pay."

"Highly recommend The Ship. My Husband and I haven't been to the restaurant in awhile and we were happy we tried it again. We dined at the restaurant after attending a wake on Tuesday night and were shocked at the inexpensive prices for dinner for 2 it included a bottle of wine, salad, entrée and dessert all for $40.00. More importantly, the food was very good and we plan to dine there in the future."

"Went for breakfast this morning 9 of us from a nearby building project, after waiting a fairly long time we eventually ordered there was only one person serving and one person cooking, but he still asked us to pay before we’d eaten but we noticed nobody else had to,we decided to use the coffee machine which ran out half way through, when the food eventually came it was very poor some items cold, no bacon for anyone when we asked he snapped he would bring some after, the poached egg was very hard and mushroom were cold with a strange taste give this place a miss"

"We went for dinner after a bit of research on local (Gainsborough) area restaurants. The staff and the atmosphere were pleasant. For starters we had seabass fishcake, which was very good, though the sweet chilli sauce was a little too powerful for the delicate flavours in the fishcake. The other starter were the cranberry and brie wontons which came out burnt black in places so I had it replaced with no fuss (really shouldn 't have come out like it in the first place). Main courses were chicken wrapped in bacon with Stilton sauce (excellent) and the 'luxury ' fish pie which was a case of quantity over quality. There was not a single prawn in the dish and it was mainly mashed potato. A very unexciting dish which would be better half the size with a decent number of the stated prawns included and a light mashed potato topping, then I would accept the 'luxury ' designation. Maybe it was just a chefs off day but I expected so much more. In my opinion and just my opinion, the menu with the specials board is just too much for a restaurant this size to cope with."

"We'd been to the Boars Head once before for a light lunch, which had been fine, but this time we brought the family for a proper Sunday lunch. The restaurant and bar were very busy, but we were given a friendly welcome and service throughout was unflustered, unobtrusive, prompt and excellent. Altogether, we had three different starters, six different adult main courses and five different desserts and every item on every plate was superb well cooked, well presented and delicious. This is definitely our new favourite restaurant and I can't wait to go back."

"Unfortunately we didn't have a good experience during our visit. It was my son's birthday. A couple of the staff members were very rude whilst trying to order food. After waiting a really long time for the food, items were missing and the food itself was dry. Burgers all dry and the pasta cheese sauce was like water. The toilets were in a really bad way too. So disappointed"
