"Very disappointing roast. A small portion of grey tasteless beef which certainly had not been cooked fresh. Roast potatoes were not crispy, gravy tasteless and cauliflower cheese at additional charge had a cheese from a packet flavour. Booked this place based on reviews. Shocking. Surprised how quiet it was, perhaps the chef was taking leave in January!! Definitely don’t recommend."

"As a previous mystery shopper. the Food was awful the meat was cheap tasted a lot like fire pit tescos burgers.Then frys you have to buy separately? Comes out in a mug size portion but your charged an arm for it. Alot of money for cheap burgers! The place has a great atmosphere how ever save your money and go to burger King or five guys or bills any where but here. Save your money. Don't be fooled by the photoshoped pictures. "My friend and I were enjoying some drinks when we asked for the TV to be changed to the football game, which we look forward to watching every Friday and weekend at this restaurant. Carmenella, one of the bar staff, quickly took care of it without any issues and even offered us more drinks at our table. It was a very enjoyable experience and we had a great time."

"The staff and service were really great BUT unfortunately the food was not. The coated prawn starter was sad to say the least, the prawn substance was no more than 5 mm long. THE FISH CHIPS WAS BAD. YOU NO LONGER HAVE COD. Instead it was flat, all skin batter ONE STAFF CALLED IT HADDOCK, ANOTHER CALLER IT POLLOCK WHICH I BELIEVE BUT IN ANY CASE IT WAS DISGUSTING. I do not send food back to the kitchen for obvious unspeakable things that kitchen staff have been known to do to it. I do not know if other food on the menu have also been degraded, but I may never find out. A snippet for TRIPADVISOR I am sure. MR DEREK GUDE"

"This spacious pub has a lot to offer in terms of facilities. It may feel a bit out of place for some, but it has a decent selection of drinks including all the usual options. It has a sporty feel with several TV screens, at least 2 billiard tables, and 3 dart boards for entertainment. It may not be suitable for those looking for a traditional style, but I would recommend it to others."

"Decided to give this place another chance after a previous poor meal but others have recommended it. Booked a festive menu for Christmas Eve and paid a deposit. Upon arrival (early afternoon and the restaurant was empty) we were told they had run out of...festive menu, and we should have reserved one with a deposit. I explained that I had paid a deposit but was then told this had not reserved the festive menu? Decided to make the most of it as we were very unlikely to get in anywhere else at this late stage. However, the first dishes we tried to order they had run out of. Wanted to go out for a roast dinner, ended up having a (not very good) steak (without any sauce as they had run out of that too… When my steak arrived, it clearly hadn’t been rested, as my plate was swimming in blood. However the steak was also cold, so I have no idea how they managed to serve a cold steak which hadn’t been rested? The lady who served us was extremely apologetic, but I must admit that despite her best efforts, we will not be back."

"Food was nice but asked to get 2 desserts to take away, absolutely disgraceful! Dessert was wrapped in tin foil! Had to send the Eaton Mess back as there was NO meringue, just whipped cream from a can and a bit of raspberry sauce and when I got it in a container there was about a tablespoon of meringue on top! The bottom of the container is about the size of my palm!! Two mouthfuls and it was gone!! The cheesecake was smaller then the size of a pen and very dry/stale. The price I paid for it, £5.75 EACH!!! Was not even worth the price of one. Never again"

"Visited the sefton today after not being in for a couple of years. Was surprised to see only 1 member of staff working in the entire pub??? The lady whose name I noticed on the till was Kate . I must say even though it was busy for 1 person to be running the whole pub on their own she was very professional . We ordered food and was told of the wait time for it to arrive . We ordered drinks one being a pot of tea and even though Kate was busy we where surprised when she said I will bring to your table ASAP. Food arrived which we throughly enjoyed. I had a lasagne which was very tasty . We received a checkback from Kate even though she was working on her own under pressure . We felt our custom was welcomed by her . Our plates where cleared swiftly when we had all finished . We stayed for an extra hour due to the level of service Kate provided not only to us but all the customers in the sefton at the time. We saw her interacting with I presume regulars . It was only when we left my son said you do know that lady ie Kate worked at wetherspoons ? Got to say Wetherspoons loss is the seftons gain . I just wish the poor girl had another member of staff working with her and she wasn't running around serving,greeting everyone on her own."

"Food was just average, service is pretty much non existent. You order at the bar after reading a very informative menu with far too many things going on. Don’t ask questions at the bar as they can’t be bother answering or explaining. And when they bring you food there was no word said. Slammed the sauces caddy on the table and walked off. She probably wanted to go back to be sitting down at the table with the other waitress drinking coffee. Yes, it was visible.."

"Have not been to the Chop House for years but really enjoyed my last visit. All members of staff we came across with were very friendly and efficient. The food was delicious as usual. We opted in for a set menu and I had a mackerel salad which reminded me of Niçoise salad, with an egg, plenty of mackerel and French beans, my friend enjoyed Haggis fritters. For the main I had a ham hock which came with thick cut chips, they were crispy from the outside and fluffy inside and runny yolk duck egg, absolute perfection. Dessert was a classic Sticky toffee, I have had it many times in the past and was pleasantly surprised that the recipe hasn't changed, it is absolutely delicious, generous portion swerved with vanilla ice cream and toffee sauce. We really enjoyed our meal and service from the moment we arrived and left. Thank you"

"The menu may not be extensive, but it offers a sufficient selection. I tried the chicken tikka masala, which was delicious, along with chicken, steak, nachos, jacket potatoes, and salad. All the meals were tasty, generously portioned, and reasonably priced. The staff were very helpful, assuring me that my meal was gluten-free, even though the gluten-free menu hadn’t been printed during my visit. They now have a dedicated gluten-free menu."

"Our children took us here to celebrate my wife's upcoming birthday. We ordered our food, and at the same time we told the member of staff that was taking our order that we had a voucher via email for free dessert for all within the group. When asking to pay the bill, we was asked to show the email with the free dessert, my wife who had the voucher via email was asked by the waitress if she could take her phone and show this to a Member of staff, not sure if she was a manager, but she was not the most happiest person in the pub, she even came over and asked my wife if she could forward the email to an address so they could look into this, as they were not aware of this, yes they onourd the offer, but made us feel very uncomfortable about it. I will say the food was great, but the atmosphere was not so good, all the staff was ignoring each other, like it was all there first day on the job. We will not be going there again, first time, last time."

"Service was slow, however very polite, food seemed processed and turkey looked like sliced from the butcher so thin, meat was not a slice of steak was mushed excess pieces moulded together into a round mould and cold. also Cranachan was just mush like thick yoghurt with porridge oats through it? That was a major shock and in a soup bowl? Def need to check the recipe on this, one chipolata too. All food was just warm nothing special. Christmas menu yet no crackers? No one asked if we enjoyed our meal even when the dessert wasn’t eaten"

"I had an easy time booking online for a busy Friday night during the Christmas Lights switch on. There were plenty of staff and the service was great. The bar was busy so we ordered on the app and our drinks and meals were delivered quickly. There were 10 of us in couples and we all enjoyed decent, hot and inexpensive meals. It is definitely worth a visit. My only complaint was that the music was too loud for a restaurant, but it may have been due to the lights switch on. Overall, well done!"

"the first time in england and wanted real English fish and chips. the pub was clean and tidy. pool table and various edges to entertain everyone. the young tattooed dame behind the bar was friendly and helpful with my asking to the menu. the chips. were in order, but needed salt and ketchup to add taste. I appreciate the fact that the fish were not made over the diligent, but not a real taste again. had to add lemon and other spicy to make it better. the Burger options looked interesting and may require a second visit."

"We stopped by this pub as a regular meeting spot for our group, not because it is particularly good, but because it is convenient. However, recently, the atmosphere has improved and we have found ourselves staying longer due to the staff being more friendly and engaging. We even joked with one of the staff about the absence of the unpleasant manager, who is apparently on holiday, which has made everyone happier. Last Saturday, instead of just one drink before moving on, we ended up staying the whole night, enjoying plenty of drinks and food. With a bar tab of nearly £60 per round and having had 8 rounds, the pub definitely profited from us being there. The manager should take more holidays, as the pub is much more pleasant and profitable without him around."
