"Lovely inside as it had a makeover thought I'd try the signature surf and turf at £20.00 what an awful mistake the sirloin steak was thin and small the 3 battered king prawns when I removed the batter was as I expected very cheap watery puny prawns frozen chips and a rather disgusting chimichurri green herb and oil sauce which I found tasteless and pointless It's not worth the money or even with a discount If prawns are being served they should be battered crevettes which are good quality large meaty delicious prawns there's nothing worse when restaurants cut corners"

"Visited Hartleys for lunch, it’s probably been about 18 months since we last went but every time we have eaten there we haven’t been disappointed and this was no exception.On arrival we were met by the waitress who was really friendly, a great first impression. It felt very safe with sanitiser dotted around for customers to use, a request for our details and tables positioned to allow social distance rules to be adhered to. All tables with the exception of one were reserved and even the one not reserved ended up being taken, so it had a great buzz about the restaurant.The food was delicious, my husband had the ribs with salt pepper fries I had the chicken wrapped in Parma ham in the most gorgeous sauce. The waitress was working on her own but that didn’t prevent the service from being spot on. Everything about our visit was fantastic and I would 100% recommend it."

"I have not eaten in Luigi's for quite some time, so I was glad to put that right. The service was marvellous with my table being serviced well by a very attentive host. The food was served to ones liking in a timely fashion and tasted delicious. This family run business is both cosy and friendly with an extensive menu that caters to all palates. "Forget Nando's if you like top quality chicken with amazing home made marinade and sauces, Piri Piri obliterates Nando's. Everytime I visit the food is consistently bang on. The half chicken you receive seems to be larger than what you'd expect and is succulent and flavoursome with the marinade you choose from. There are 3 of them. In addition if you require more sauce, they provide you with a bottle of it to the table which is great even though I probably use 2/3 of it. You can buy the bottles of sauces to take home. The sweets are great but last and not least is the outstanding lager Super Bock they have on draught. Crisp taste and on its own a reason to visit there."

"I am 58 years old and I have estimated that in that time I have had thousands of roast beef dinners, The Portland's roast beef is the best I have ever had, perfectly medium rare, perfect veg and a great selection of real ales. Now we have all been to a pub and had a nice meal then gone back a few months or a year later, the management or chef has changed and the quality has gone downhill, not here I have been going for the last 7 years and every time it's amazing, I think they have chained their chef to the cooker because it's the same one! I recommend this pub to all my friends and family and we keep returning. Thank you for another lovely meal and great service. Please could you move the whole pub to the mainland so we can go weekly : p.s. Please bring the same chef!"

"absolutely delicious. we love this beautiful restaurant / teestube, the garden is with small secret places to sit and is so charming. after the visit we decided to order their shanklin cake. That's good, so fleshy. the prawn salad is incredible and the isle of wight tastes so fresh. I think you sticky toffee pudding might be the best I cost. the owner is charming and the staff so friendly. 10/10"

"I've been eating a couple of lunches today and bought a fresh scrap sandwich and a drink. the choice here is just great and the sandwich was prepared for me while I waited. it was absolutely delicious! here is a fantastic selection of freshly prepared meals. relish also has a seating area and located directly on the road, I don't need an excuse to dive back soon! fantastic. "fabulous, the first class of food. Sunday lunch the best in the city. the host was a very friendly person who had attention to detail below as priority. we all had a beautiful Sunday dinner of my mother in the law to order a children lamb dinner, which was abundant. I had the bark that just melted in the mouth. the gravitation to die. the whole sweet, the maese and the bratkartoffels served a beautiful yorkshire pudding. the meal was unbeatable. my man also had a trio meat exceptional. what kind of a day to spend. the midway is very popular and they can see why, would book advisers in advance to save disappointment. will definitely return. well done"

"This is the first negative review I have written. Aubaine in Hampstead has really gone down-hill. Poor service, food average. Very over-priced. Staff lacking in knowledge and training. Staff who couldn't speak English had to call the head waiter. Head waiter too busy sitting at a table chatting with customers to even notice that we had walked in! Embarrassingly, the customer who he was chatting to, alerted him to the fact that we had been standing at the reception for 4 minutes. Asked for rare beef fillet but got medium. Too hungry to send it back. Forgot my side dish and admitted they gave it to the wrong table. Forgot to bring the dessert tray to our table and did not come back for 30 minutes after they cleared our main meal away. No offer of tea or coffee. Gave up after that and ordered the bill. Took them another 20 minutes to collect the payment. Complained about the service to the Head waiter but he was not interested and said he did his best! We did not pay the service charge!"

"A Few weeks ago my husband and I were in for lunch and there was a small mix up in our order. We didn’t mind waiting for it to be sorted and were happy to pay as the food was so good but the owner insisted we didn’t pay for our food and said it was “a gift”. "It's definitely a tucked away pub, probably mainly used by the locals as situated down a dead end road. I found all the staff very friendly and welcoming. I was there on my own and read good reviews for the food so tried the Lamb shank, beautifully tender, wasn't disappointed. I will come back again for Sunday lunch, this place is well worth a visit, enjoy"

"Visited today for a treat of coffee and cake and it was the most terrible quality. The cakes were overly sweet and sickly rather than pleasant and I asked for coffee with a syrup which ended up being half a cup of syrup making it impossible to drink. Spoon supplied with the coffee was also not clean and when I went to buy water to replace the coffee the glass I was supplied was disgusting as if it had never been washed so I drank out of the bottle. For what we received it was overpriced and not like it used to be, we understand that cakes should be sweet but his was sugar overload leaving us feeling rather unwell. Won’t be back again and wished I had driven 5 minutes further to get better quality and service from Starbucks based in the hospital grounds."

"Sit by a window overlooking the sea, in a proper restaurant, where food is cooked to order, to your liking, at a table covered in a real tablecloth. Food is excellent, and there is no problem if you want just a starter and desert, or a starter and then another starter instead of a main, or even just a starter. I have multiple food allergies and they dealt with them happily and very competently, even coming back from the kitchen to check with me if there was any doubt about ingredients. Two menus, and no problem if you want to mix and match, and if you want a large meal then the main courses are large. We stay in Lowestoft a couple of times a year for a few days each time, and always eat here. Very highly recommended. Only snag is they are sometimes very busy, especially if the function room is in use, so it often pays to book. (They will then advise you of a good time to eat if they know they are going to be busy."

"Many restaurants had to close during the Covid pandemic, so I was pleased to see that a favourite place has re-opened. Five years ago I reviewed OKN1 or Open Kitchen as it was then called, and I have to report it is even better now. It is part of the New City College's School of Hospitality and Catering Arts, training young would-be chefs, waiters, bar staff, managers and catering assistants. The results are fantastic. One of our recent visits found us enjoying excellent leek and lentil soups, Chicken cordon bleu and Beef rendang, all well cooked and nicely presented. Another visit offered very fine Miso ginger braised pork belly, without a hint of the usual fattiness of this dish. The Grilled butterflied poussin was also a treat. All dishes come with vegetables or rice and salad. Other options we noted were a Breaded plaice sandwich, Thai poached salmon, Confit duck leg and a Vegan mushroom bourguignon. Desserts might include a rich Chocolate fondant, a vegan Coconut mango rice pudding, Orange tart or an Exotic fruit salad. As well as offering some great and imaginative cooking, the prices for the Tuesday to Friday lunches are ridiculously reasonable with starters and desserts at £3.50 and main meals just £6. Evening meals on Thursday and Friday are a little dearer but still good value. The cooking is excellent and the waiting staff are learning the ropes with enthusiasm, so everybody deserves to be congratulated and encouraged as they will be the catering successes of the future. Highly recommended."
