"Haven’t been for several years, the new restaurant design and decor is superb! The tasting menu was delicious, interesting tasty dishes beautifully presented. Unfortunately they really need to up their game with the finer details. They could have done with at least another two servers, they were running around obviously stretched. They need to be more vigilant offering water, removing used wine glasses etc. We opted for the wine pairing and the pours were not very consistent! Also when you have wine pairing, you expect a bit more description and introduction of the wines….where it’s from, what year, description and be shown the bottle…a bit of a chat about the wine adds to the enjoyment of the experience! The wines sometimes arrived half way through the course too. In summary, really good food but if they are selling the restaurant as tasting menu and wine pairings, they need to up their game and train their serving staff better."

"Popped into Purdy 's for a coffee and a snack at 15.45 Monday afternoon. Approx 4 sets of eyes greeted our entry and 3 immediate rather loud comments of We re closed greeted us. Pardon me ladies I do apoligise. We left feeling quite embarrassed that we dared look for a coffee at such a late hour in the day!! I did however check the comments on Trip Advisor and found the only real negative which seemed to pop up quite often was the rude staff. Ah well plenty other coffee shops in town which were still open,and greeted our custom, thankfully."

"Visited this pub yesterday for the first time and we will definitely be going back soon! The food was delicious, the decor is charming and exactly what a country pub should be with the big open fire, atmosphere was really relaxing and the service was perfect. The manager owner even brought our dog some treats over which was a lovely touch. Dietary restrictions: I am vegan and had the Cajun vegetable soup which was delicious. "Booked a table in advance, as I was planning to visit on a Sunday morning. Arrived at my booked time, no greeting from any of the numerous staff members. Waited until I was approached by a grey haired waitress who would be more at home on a parade ground it would seem. She seemed to think the best way to approach a customer was to bark “name?” at me before bothering to ask if I’d made a booking or not. She then casually wandered off, returning a few minutes later to ask my name again. Was shown a table, given a menu and within literally 2.5 mins of me sitting down, she was over asking for my order. I had to politely say that I wasn’t sure yet and could I have a few more minutes; she seemed to think it was ok to sigh and wander off again. Very odd behaviour indeed. I heard her berating another table of two for their audacity to assume they didn’t have to book, and how she’d need the table back in 45 mins or less. I ordered the small breakfast, and it was mediocre at best. Poached egg was hard all the way through, one measly veggie sausage which was tasteless and some veggie haggis that was bland and cold. Really not worth the price tag. I’ve no idea how this place is still in business. The extremely rude woman who is front of house seems to have a reputation for being awful, as read in other reviews. And the food is nothing to write about. Sadly I won’t be back, nor would I recommend Heaven Scent to anyone I like!"

"Was looking forward to going for Sunday tea at the newly refurbished restaurant but I can honestly say the experience was so disappointing. Service was poor from beginning to end. We were seated and no drinks order taken, we had to go to the bar ourselves. Two of the fours of us ordered starters but soup very salty. Three of us ordered the same main meal of chicken stack, when they came one was only half the portion of the other two and had more bacon and cheese than chicken, I mentioned this to waiter who then sent over a more senior female waitress, who frankly was rude and disinterested, but offered to arrange for more chicken to come out, well as I write this comment four hours later I am still waiting. The chicken which I did get was tough and tasteless. The wrong side orders came out and we had to continually ask for drinks which surprise surprise they got wrong. We asked for sweet menus of which we received two different menus, so had to wait to have them sort out which was the right menu and after we ordered dessert, well guess what they came back a few mins later to say what we ordered was no longer available. Apart from the good company of friends I can truly say haven't had a more disappointing experience in years. I will definitely not be back or will I recommend to anyone."

"Booked for dinner on New Years Eve as staying locally and wanted a lovely meal with friends. We were definitely not disappointed by both the friendly, professional service and a great menu choice. We all had starters. The prawn cocktail was laden with fresh prawns. The vegetable soup, homemade and creamy came with beautiful fresh bread. The main courses were substantial. The chicken was well roasted with a tasty creamy sauce whilst the Pork Loon also came with a cider pouring sauce on the side. We skipped deserts (too full! but the options were tempting. In all it was well priced for what we chose and very happy with the final bill."

"We were visiting Oundle for the first time and wanted tea and cake. My wife was craving a flapjack or granola cake and this place had both. In fairness the cakes were excellent (I had an almond slice). But the service was lamentable. Even when I was ordering it was clear that the girl serving me couldn’t care less. The tea took ages and they forgot the cake, and it was hardly a complex order and there was no queue. And because they use trendy teapots it was impossible to get anything other than very weak tea, too weak even for me and I am notorious for liking weak tea. I suspect that is why they try to flog you (as an upgrade) ‘superstrength tea’ when you order. The chap serving alongside the girl was good and did his best to make amends. But how hard is it to pretend that your. Us timers are important. We try to support independents but experiences like this is why I think about local tea shops and then choose Costa or Nero. Stop trying to be trendy and serve good tea and cake with a smile."

"Came in here for a lunch break while on the Lanark Heritage Trail. The name of the cafe is apt as it's set up like a traditional tearoom. A bit old school, but pleasant, bright and airy. All the new health guidelines were being observed with hand sanitiser, table space and face masks etc.I ordered a home made vegetable soup and also a (I think) marshmallow cheesecake. First off the soup was pretty poor. Really watery and salty. The former I didn't mind so much because it had generous amount of vegetables. I also asked for a glass of water, but still couldn't finish the soup. The cheesecake was delicious though.In fairness, when it came to the bill, the staff took money off the final bill, so kudos for that. I came here because of all the amazing reviews, but I was disappointed overall. I can't fault the service or customer focus and that's a credit to the staff."

"Wow! What a place! Had no idea that this little Gem of a restaurant existed until last night. My lovely friend had organised a Hen night for me and booked this beautiful place! Not sure what to say if I'm honest, no amount of words can be enough to say how amazing it is. Food was out of this world! Had the taster menu and had all sorts from meatballs to lasagne to pizza! "We booked for a table of 5 including a 1 year old in a high chair. This was booked with 48 hours noticed on a day with limited service due to a festival in the village the night before. Our requirements where met and we where informed about the limited service during the day. Even with the limited service we where sat and settled quickly with our drinks order being taken. We where not rushed to order food and all questions and changes where handled without problems.The food was delivered in a suitable amount of time and it was to a very high standard. We where pleasantly surprised as both the Lamb and Beef where cooked to a high standard and the vegetables (served in a seperate dish) where also delicious.Two vegetarians in our party where also well catered for with a number of options that did not include the standard mushroom dishes. The Risotto they chose was very enjoyable.Our one year old was given a free meal as long as an adult ordered a meal (not including the lamb) this was also a great benefit that is welcome for parents of children that don 't always eat a lot.The food was very decently priced for the quality of food provided. We would definitely visit again in the future and choose a time not directly after a festival when we would be able to enjoy a better more lively atmosphere"

"What a lovely find! Typical olde worlde type of pub and one we had driven past many times. Whitebait to start and vegetable soup for my husband and, both delicious. Great choice on the menu and a good selection of 'specials ' (Italian and English) but we opted for the sausages. Sausage, eggs and THE best triple fried chips ever, and for me sausages, silky smooth mash and delicious caramelized onion gravy (properly made with stock basis). Great selection of sausages.big portions, take note! Add to this friendly attentive service and it 's a winner! Certainly will be back!"

"We decided to take a boat trip over to Lusty to have lunch . We found the menu very limited. The food was overpriced and the staff weren’t very accommodating. My main complaint was with the drinks order I am quite fussy but when I order a bottle of something I expect it to be served in the bottle . "We were thoroughly impressed by the wholesome and delicious lunch we enjoyed at this attractive eatery. The falafel salad and the nutty mushroom cutlet pitta were nicely presented, flavoursome and satisfying. Thankfully we had just enough room to share the individual homemade rhubarb pie and ice cream, which was lovely. Little things can enhance a dining experience, such as the good quality cutlery and the fresh flowers on every table.
