"great price ratio and the food taste like I have been transported to a little osteria somewhere in rom. the environment is very cozy and informal and not very busy. there were Italian families there that tell me that eating is actually real (we all know how Italians with foods are really demanding, but if a restaurant serves Italian cuisine and it has Italian customers, then it is the real ding safe! it is amazing how even a simple brunette can taste so good! extra points for the carbonara!"

"We visited our old favourite Hartley’s again this evening for only the second time in 2023. We always have a lovely time here but we are guilty sometimes of forgetting just how good the food is! To put it into context we have become “foodies” over the last few years having been spoiled by annual trips to France and a few Michelin Star experiences in the UK. Tonight we went back to the fabulous friendly and laid back experience that epitomises our favourite local restaurant, Hartley’s. From the minute we walked in, it was the usual friendly welcome and banter and wow was the food “on point”. Mrs D had the bruschetta freeing me to have the Squid and both were fabulous. Let’s be honest I don’t really like salad, but the one they do with the squid I could happily just eat on its own and with the pickle it so complements the subtle taste of the squid. For mains I had the sublimely balanced gammon with cream sauce, poached egg potatoes and cabbage. How well each element complements one another, The better half enjoyed the Seabass, which from my shared forkful was equally lovely. I had the delicate rhubarb and ginger crumble for pud while the missus had STP. All washed down with a lovely Chilean Merlot! What a fabulous evening! I said to JD “sometimes we do forget just how good this place is” 5 stars tonight only because I couldn’t give 6!"

"The whole review: Where to start with this place, it was such an amazing experience throughout. We arrived without a reservation on a busy Friday night, which wasn’t an issue at all, we were met by warm smiles and were seated promptly. The decor was very homely and felt like we were in an Italian Nonna’s home being served some amazing food. The staff were friendly and attentive throughout. All meals arrived quickly and we didn’t have to wait long for any of it. Great place for date night, we will certainly be back. We started off with the Antipasto to share and the Bocconcini. The Antipasto to share is plenty for two people. With a good portion of mozzarella, a mountain of different type of cured meats and fresh crunchy bread. Everything tasted so fresh, it was the perfect way to start the evening. The Bocconcini was equally as good, salty speck wrapping oozing melt in the mouth mozzarella, what more could you want? For mains we can highly recommend the Parma pizza. One of the best pizza’s we’ve had. Very tasty. Fresh rocket, tasty sauce and the dough was exquisite. We’ve ordered Torta Della Nonna and Panna cotta for desserts. It was a hard choice since they have 12 desserts on the menu. Torta Della Nonna was a love at first bite. The shortcrust pastry was amazing, it was warm when it came and perfect with the ice cream. Can’t really taste the but you know it’s there. Panna cotta was another highlight. The cream melted in your mouth and even better with the caramel sauce. Desserts are a must so make sure you save some space for it. We will certainly return and try other food. Truly enjoy everything here which made our date perfecto."

"My husband and son and I decided to stop here for lunch one Monday. We arrived just after 12pm. Sat down, had our drinks and food order taken and my little boy needed to use the toilet. My husband took him to the public toilets which to his utter disgust where completely blocked and disgustingly dirty. He then tried to take him to the restaurant toilets and they where pretty much the same! Could not use them. He alerted a member of staff and it wasn’t even acknowledged and I took him to the female restaurant toilets which where not as bad but had definitely not been cleaned. We again spoke to what was meant to be a young girl duty manager. Her response was oh the cleaners mustn’t have been in?? Seriously? Is there not checks done before opening? If environmental health had of shown up they would have been shut down. We only ate our food because we had already ordered. My husband decided to email to advise of the dirty standards and never got a response, hence now the review. Absolute disgrace. Standards have dropped massively."

"Celebrating my wife’s 30th birthday at this restaurant was absolutely amazing. I was really stressed about accommodating such a large group, but the staff blew me away with how helpful they were. Huge shoutout to Katie and Luke – they went above and beyond to make sure we were all comfortable. They even helped carry our enormous cake, which was no small feat! "We ordered takeaway and the order was wrong (not the delivery drives fault) when we called the restaurant the owner also tried to argue that the ezme sauce is a white creamy sauce until we proved him wrong. He then said he will call back in 5 mins for a solution. 15minutes later we called and the person we spoke to said he would deliver a fresh order in 30minutes accepting he had forgotten to send the right order and the person we previously spoke to had left. 1 hour later (still not receiving the correct order) we called again the owner said oh we cannot send your food out you have to come and collect but will be ready in about an hours time. He said he didnt call back as he had gone to deliver another order. We asked if he could deliver our order and he said he doesnt drive. We asked for a refund which he refused. He said we should come and collect and that he was not giving us £60 worth of food for free!? Ridiculous as our order was paid for £35.58 and was wrong (missing items). We explained we had paid for the food and would like our correct order delivered. He point blank refused and was incredibily rude. I would avoid at all costs. Owner has serious issues taking responsibilty for HIS errors. Which in the food industry can seriously ruin his business. I hope he learns before its too late! My advise would be to avoid a very arrogant owner in his deluded world!"

"Had dinner here 30th June 2023 by way of celebration for our son graduating from Queens University, his choice! We have been before as often as we can being from distant Tyrone and quite simply are never disappointed! Warmly welcomed as always, usual dilemma of what to choose for my wife and son and straight down to business. We all enjoyed a simple pre starter with our drinks and then ordered. We all had the tempura prawns and vegetables which were simply exquisite before devouring haddock in my case, risotto with scallops for my son and the boss had a piece of baked cod which looked monumental! The Deane lager is to die for, as is the house rose and a stinking good coffee to finish! All enjoyed under the ever watchful eye of the owner who patrolled religiously as he always seems to do. Not hard to see why standards are maintained and cannot wait to return again as we undoubtedly shall. Not in any rush to take payment and get you out either. Superb meal, many thanks! Oh and by the way, I am not a fish lover normally, but I will happily make an exception for excellence!"

"We stopped off for tea, smoothies and cake in the afternoon at this lovely cafe. There are lots of vegan options. There is no vegan symbol on the daytime menu but all of the staff we spoke to were very friendly and very knowledgeable about the food. We enjoyed it so much we booked a table at the Bistro for the following evening. There were four vegan options available in the evening (clearly labelled) all of which sounded great. Again the food was excellent and the staff were very helpful. The atmosphere in the evening was really nice too. They had added candles to the tables and cushions to the chairs. Highly recommended."

"The restaurant was busy, but we were seated on time for our reservation. Unfortunately, the noise level was so high that we had to practically shout to hear each other. This might have been okay if the food had been good. We ordered yak yeti beef and chicken with rice. The rice was undercooked and extremely dry, and the meat dishes were also dry and tough. On top of that, we were overcharged by £30 without any apology. We will not be going back."

"Very enjoyable evening here. Six course tasting menu, the outstanding ones for us were deliciously intense mushroom and mustard soup ;fabulous fresh, citrussy tuna ceviche on lip smacking garlic and chilli guacamole ; superb gambas on paella with belly pork. Accompanied by smooth and easy drinking Rioja, also offering white or rose, Estrella for beer drinkers. All the diners around us appeared to be having an equally good time. "This was our first visit since the ferry changed hands. The biggest change for us was the food. The food is different but still good! We went on a Saturday, so can't comment on the Sunday roast but we tried a fair sample of the plates. For starters, we had a soup and a pate. Both went down very well. The soup was a vegetable soup, thick and dull of veggie chunks. The pate was a generous wedge. For mains, we had a steak and kidney pie, fish and chips, half roast chicken, and a fish goujon sandwich. The pie was well filled and a suet pastry for a change. Fish and chips, a fair portion and light looking batter. The half roast chicken was a fairly large bird and the fish goujon sandwich was well filled and tasty. Dessert was a sticky toffee pudding- nice and light, and a fruit crumble with custard, slightly tart but a nice balance against the custard. Service was fast and the team were friendly. We will be back to try the Sunday roasts soon! Price per person: £40–50 Food: 4 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5"

"Limited menu but decided to go because steak was listed on the on line menu. The menu in the restaurant did not include steak. We were told that would not be available until later in the month. At the bar we were greeted by a...row several handpumps with the pump clips turned round. Two real ales were available. The quality of the IPA I opted for was questionable. The member of staff stated that there were delays on supply of some of the drinks. This pub is almost next door to the brewery. The staff were friendly and doing their best in what seemed to me a poorly managed pub. The food we had was passable but far from deserving the stars plus given by previous reviews."

"Not sure what all the fuss is about, we were left distinctively underwhelmed. It is clearly a regulars venue and they are all greeted warmly on arrival, however we as newbeeies not so much. The man who I guess was the restaurant manager, was devoid of personality and appeared to make a point of not interacting with us, even though the restaurant was empty. 2 courses were served in less than 30 minutes totally unnecessary and to me a clear indication we were not welcome. What a missed opportunity to get to know some new potential customers by making them feel special. Would not recommend."

"We visited here the day before and booked a table for the following evening as it’s a small venue. We had to come in quite late because it’s small, busy and gets booked up. We understand all of these things, but on the night in question we were greeted by more than one individual who seemed very stressed and spoke to us initially as if we didn’t have a table booked and couldn’t help us. This wasn’t a great first impression. Eventually we were seated at a table and given menus. We knew what we wanted to order quickly, but had to wait quite a while before anyone came over to take a drinks order. So when they did we ordered food at the same time. We waited quite some time for drinks and even longer for food. Although tables were finishing off there seemed to be a lot of tables still waiting for food. It felt a bit frantic and as if the kitchen was struggling to cope. When we received our mains they were nicely presented. The main issue was that one of the portions of chips was cold and the other was only lukewarm. The fish was okay in terms of temperature and was as expected in terms of flavour, apart from the lobster which was impossible to crack through using the basic tools provided, so it had to be returned to the kitchen for assistance which meant other food was cooling. It was a chilly evening, but the doors were open and the food cooled quicker still. The wine selection was good and the wine selected went well with the food. The desserts on offer looked amazing and we sampled them and can confirm that they were very good. The disappointment here comes from being provided with cold sides, inadequate equipment to get in to the lobster, chewy lobster meat and other fish cooling rapidly because the ambient temperature was falling rapidly and windows/doors remained open."
