"This restaurant offers the best Chinese cuisine in Guildford. My group came for a birthday dinner on Sunday and enjoyed the buffet, which costs £22 for adults and £12 for children. They even gave us a souvenir photo of our group as a gift, which was a nice touch. The buffet concept allows customers to reorder food and have it made fresh and delivered to their table, rather than sitting out under heat lamps for hours like at standard buffets. Customers should be mindful not to overorder as food waste is taken into account. The quality of the food is consistently excellent and the service is quite fast, but it's recommended to book in advance. While it may not be the cheapest option, customers definitely get what they pay for here."

"When we first walked in our expectations were high the place was beautiful and looked promising we were promptly told we only had 10 mins to order due to it being late so we quickly chose our dishes and than waited 45 min for our food. The food was ... to put it lightly not good . I ordered beef with chili sauce what I got was boiled beef swimming in oil water and chili it had no taste and was not good at all. My husband got the steak with honey sauce (I can't remember the names exactly and it tasted good but his portion was so small a toddler could eat it. We also got spring rolls that were so dry and tasteless a part of me feels because we came and hour before closing they rushed our food and that's why it was so bad but i won't be going back to find out"

"I am a student at Derby University and have had trouble finding a good Chinese takeout since leaving home. I would recommend Modern Cuisine as a reliable option. They have delicious chow mein and fantastic vegetable spring rolls, and the portions are generous. However, the rice is a bit plain. The delivery is always on time or early, which is a plus. Sometimes the food can be slightly cold, but we just heat it up in the microwave and it's not a major issue. Overall, it doesn't quite live up to the star rating."

"Our visit was for a birthday meal. The staff were friendly and efficient. The food was good. We chose quite spicy dishes. The food was not piled high (thank goodness) but in reasonable sized portions. "Several of our friends had recommended this restaurant, so we made a reservation for 6:30 on a Thursday evening. Upon being seated, it was evident that the restaurant's primary focus is its takeaway business. We started off with crispy duck pancakes and spare ribs, followed by crispy beef, sizzling prawns, Szechuan chicken, Singapore noodles, and steamed rice. Unfortunately, the crispy beef arrived cold and even after being sent back to the kitchen, it returned just as cold. The Szechuan chicken was lukewarm and the Singapore noodles were tepid with limp baby sweetcorn. Despite the sizzling prawns living up to their name, the overall dining experience was disappointing. I do not plan on returning or ordering from here again in the near future. While the service was friendly and efficient, the food and atmosphere left much to be desired. Dining in a restaurant that mainly caters to takeout orders is not ideal."

"Great, in fact fantastic food. The restaurant had a very casual and relaxing feel to it, which I liked. The decor is a bit cheesy but that's the nature of the beast. Apart from us there were over 20 other patrons, all Chinese. Obviously you feel reassured of food quality if actual Chinese people are frequenting the restaurant and having a good time. If I had to picky, I'd say the main waiter, with the ear ring!, needs to cheer up a little. At least look like you enjoy the job mate...."

"Group of 13 booking for Sat 7pm. We were seated on time and place was clean and had a good atmosphere. Then everything went downhill! We asked which dishes were Halaal and the waitress was unsure so called another waiter. We were told only the chicken was Halaal. A couple of the group were vegetarian so we all choose vegetarian hot and sour soup for starters. The starters took 45 min to arrive. One of the group thought it contain meat so called the waiter and to our horror we were told the soup we had been served contained PORK and apologised for the error. Eating PORK is unacceptable for Muslims and eating MEAT is unacceptable to vegetarians. We should have got up and left at that stage, but stayed on and it took another 45 mins to get the mains. There is a real issue with any restaurant where incorrect food is served. We will never visit this place again and I wanted to share the bad service we received."

"I was impressed with the speed with which the courts arrived, although my friends began to order a few minutes before the table and the tables were in the regular large enough to arrange a series of dressed up without taking over! the Chinese New Year's menu had some great dishes, for example mushroom the moss saw how hairball from a drain plug '' but standout was the hainanese? chicken with rice garlic dip! I decided to have pu 'reh tee, because it seems better suited than a glass wein etc. very pleasant decoration that gives character but does not distract from the food."

"I have used Oriental 3 times now and they have always given good service and the food is of good quality and reasonably priced. I do feel some reviewers just like to moan without justification. "After visiting this restaurant for approx 10 years, we visited recently for a family birthday and to say we are disappointed is a huge understatement and it will be our last visit. We ordered a variety of dim sum and noddles to share which worked out at £45 a head (incl drinks). Whilst quite pricey, We don 't mind paying that much if the food is nice but most of it was bad quality. The pork shumai was disgusting and honestly inedible, the chicken feat in black bean sauce came out red in colour like it had been curried, furthermore the seafood had the taste of ammonia. The Vietnamese spring rolls had changed since our last visit, and whilst they were fine, they were not as tasty as before. We heard the dimsum chef had recently not been working and dim sum was off the menu for a period of time and we can only assume that the chef must have left. Also we only arrived at 1pm (opens at 12) yet one third of the dishes were sold out and marked off the dim sum menu. One other complaint is that after 10 years of regularly visiting this restaurant, no current staff have ever made an effort to ask our name or even acknowledge we have been before which we never minded before when the food was tasty. We are young and non-chinese in terms of ethnicity and we saw the restaurant staff greet other customers with a lot more acknowledgement and we even saw they knew the table next to us regular order which is ironic since we are also regulars. Seemed like they never made any effort to greet us. Will avoid from here on out."

"Tonight I had one of my worst experience with Chinese food so far and as an Asian, I’ve tried quite a few Chinese restaurants around the world. This one is way overrated!! The best thing about it is the location, right at the entrance of China town. The second best thing is that they serve your dishes pretty fast despite the crowd. We ordered 4 dishes and the only one acceptable was dimsum. Btw for dinner they didn’t have all the choices for dimsum and the “night menu” ones are more expensive than regular ones. I don’t know their difference though as I ordered dimsum assortiment (8 pieces) from Hot appetisers instead. Our 3 other dishes were total failures: Spare ribs with sambal sauce were too dry; Baked salted chicken was half-cooked and Fried rice with seafood and meat DID NOT HAVE ANY TASTE, like they didn’t even season it with salt. Overall I was very disappointed, in total we paid £62.5 for two people which was not worth at all. I really didn’t understand why people queue to eat here!"

"Very relaxing experience, cute decor and a pleasant atmosphere. One thing you will notice is the hot plate in the centre of the table, which is very handy but don't touch it. :D First thing I noticed on the table were the Chopsticks. They were made from high quality bambo, very unusual design. Food portion is more than enough for an individual. The taste is lovely and rich, with friendly service. So what are you waiting for? "I recently revisited this Chinese restaurant in Finnieston before a night out and was not disappointed. The interior may be basic, but the food more than makes up for it. Seeing Chinese students dining in was a good sign and indicated that the food was authentic. I tried the Chicken and Black Bean dish this time, and it was delicious. It seems like they may have a new chef, but the taste was still just as great as I remembered. The portions were generous and filled me up nicely before a few drinks. My friends tried the crispy shredded beef, which was also a large portion. I will definitely be returning soon."

"I love this place almost as much as my boyfriend does! The staff are wonderful and very polite, the atmosphere is relaxed, peaceful, and beautifully decorated, and the food is delicious! You pay a set price of £16-18 (depending on the day of the week) and can order anything off the menu. It's essentially a buffet customized to your preferences, and everything tastes fantastic! This is some of the best Chinese and Thai food I've had in the UK. I would definitely recommend this place and will be returning again and again!"
