"We have dined at this restaurant before and the food was so delicious that we decided to return today. I opted for the vegan Taste Of Asia dish, which consisted of marinated tofu with rice noodles in a coconut and lemongrass sauce. It was absolutely fantastic! My husband chose the seabass with wild mushroom risotto, while my children enjoyed the haddock and chips and a cheeseburger. They were both also very tasty. Even my picky eater daughter cleaned her plate. We enjoyed the great selection of ales on tap, extensive wine list, and numerous flavors of gin available. We were so impressed that we plan to return for dinner with my sister this weekend. I highly recommend this bar and restaurant."

I recently enjoyed one of the best Sunday roasts I have ever had. The meat and vegetables were cooked to perfection.

Never been here before. Nice meal and environment. Ideal if going to theatre. Good selection on menu bit pricey for some. Menu prices need to be clearer, 5.5 next to item actually means £5.50 so why not put that. If misprint then retire menus. Could have done with more staff on.

Very quiet on this occasion. pleasant service, nice cocktail (Bakewell Tart) and good food. Went for the Sirloin Steak, nicely cooked with chips. Risotto was good too. Plenty of choice on the menus, light bites, main meals and bar snacks. Would be busier when there is a show on.

I visited this restaurant on a Saturday night and had a fantastic experience with great service and delicious food. I even had a chat with the owner, who is definitely helping to change the negative reputation of the area. The restaurant is located just outside of town and is perfect for a pre-dinner meal or drinks. I highly recommend it. View menu

Having tried several local places for a Sunday roast in Ipswich it was only fair that we tried here.....and we were not disappointed, if fact in our opinion it’s the best in town! Excellent quality food with good ingredients (none of your processed stuff! and very generous servings, all cooked to perfection. Bar 29 has a sumptuous feel about it, and all the staff were very courteous and friendly. Definiatly worth a visit.....

Popped in here for lunch on a mum's and daughters day out to the theatre. Beautiful refurbishment and a tasty lunch. The owner was so helpfull as he told us that the show was cancelled the evening before due to someone falling off the stage! He phoned through for us to make sure it was going ahead. Great service and much appreciated, thank you and good luck with your new venture. I'm sure it will be a great success. Regards, Carry.

I’ve tried two of their vegan dishes and have been impressed with both. After hearing great things from friends i wanted to try it myself and they didn’t disappoint. Food arrived quickly and was presented very nicely. Cooked to perfection. If you can’t decide what dish to have do what I did and try a bit of both!!! The staff were friendly and welcoming and the entire bar restaurant has been revamped and is stunning. Would highly recommend Bar 29 Restaurant to vegans. View menu

We were staying locally to visit a relative and decided to walk into Ipswich for an evening meal. We passed many eateries which were part of big food chains and then we found this gem. We wanted somewhere that was individual with enthusiastic service and we were not disappointed. The food was great the owners were very welcoming and attentive. The chef clearly loved cooking and came to ask if we had enjoyed what he had created. It was fantastic value for the standard of dishes they served and we had a really good night. We will definitely visit again next time we are over in Suffolk.

I’ve eaten here on several occasions and have always been pleased with the quality of the food and the service alike. The staff are polite, friendly and accommodating. The selection of both food and drink is superb. From larger, to colourful cocktails- they even have prosecco on tap! One time I took my family for a Sunday roast... we’re a ‘picky’ bunch but between us genuinely couldn’t find fault with anything. Needless to say clean plates all round. The pub itself I would describe as contemporary stylish with a laid back vibe. It’s definitely unique and a complete change to what it was before. Whatever the occasion or company I can quite honestly recommend this venue!!

"Checking in to a hotel in an unfamiliar place, it is tempting to book one 's first evening meal in the hotel 's restaurant (unless, of course, one has had chance to research the alternatives beforehand . This may seem a safe option, but is often a mistake, as it was on my visit to Ipswich. Had I only known that a minute 's walk along the quayside would have taken me to Mariners, I should have eaten there twice rather than only once! A floating restaurant can often prove to be a bit of a gimmick, but Mariners seemed to get good reviews so, on night two, I gave it a try. A beautifully restored and maintained Dutch customs gunboat from 1900, with gleaming brass and polished woodwork, the restaurant offers a limited, but well-constructed, menu to satisfy most tastes. Being aboard a boat, I opted for seafood, and was not disappointed. There being an R in the month , mussels were a good choice for my starter, followed by a seafood skewer , presented with just enough theatre to be amusing but not over the top. Not fine dining , perhaps, but well-prepared, nicely presented and very satisfying dishes at reasonable prices. A limited wine list, perhaps a bit on the pricey side, but the Picpoul de Pinet proved to be an excellent accompaniment without over-stressing the credit card. Service struck just the right balance between politeness and friendliness. My fellow diners embraced the whole age spectrum (I was by far the oldest! weighted perhaps towards the younger end, the common factor being that everyone (myself included was clearly enjoying themself. There are many other dining venues along the Ipswich quayside that my brief visit did not allow me to try, but Mariners can be recommended as a safe and enjoyable bet."
