"I was able to get in on a table for 1 without having booked on a Friday night. However, I recommend booking in advance.I chose the three course menu which consisted of goats cheese soup, rack of lamb and a trio of creme brûlée. To go with this, I selected a glass of white wine (local to Basel), a red (Gigondas) and a dessert wine. Without exception the food was well presented and tasty. I was offered extra bread, which is nice. There was also a nice asparagus amuse-bouche.The highlight of the food was the still-flaming creme brûlées - a great piece of theatre. Mara was my server and she did an excellent job. Overall, it is an excellent dining experience. There was only one minor point which I feel duty-bound to report. The main course was served with a slight chip on the edge of the plate; the plate should be disposed of as soon as this happens. As regards value for money, the 3 course menu was only 2 francs saving over the a la carte price of the components- I would perhaps have expected more. The menu plus 3 glasses of wine and some sparkling water came to 95 francs. Not cheap, but definitely reasonable for a) Basel and b) the quality of the restaurant."

We had a nice evening at 5 Signori. Our food was fantastic and beautifully presented. The wine was great too, and the staff were very attentive. Will definitely go again.

Had a spontaneous visit on a warm summer evening. While the starter was decent, the main course was fabulous. The service was very good, friendly and always attentive. Guaranteed to return.

Excellent restaurant. Delicious fine food and fine wines per glass and per bottle. Nice and polite staff. Tables dressed with style. Centrally located in Gundeli near Basel SBB Hauptbahnhof. Definitely recommendable and reasonably priced taken into account premium quality food .

The restaurant has a real good chef who proposes some original excellent courses. We had a menu with raviolis, then a rack of pork and an excellent desert. Everything was perfectly cooked and not ordinary food. The place was fully booked and the dining room is nice but quite noisy.

i went there by chance for a lunch with colleagues and i must admit they have a very attractive lunch with a starter which is usually a soup or a salad and then you can choose from a meat, a fish or a veggie main course. Presentation of dishes is neat and well done. I will recommend this place for lunch. Just waiters / service people could improve in smiling.

Let me start with the service. A very professional and friendly operation. It's not silver service, but you can tell that time effort and training has been spent. We felt relaxed, and were attended to extremely well. The wine was served as well as any top restaurant and made the wine taste even better. The food, exceptional. Staring with a home made ravioli then moving on to a black Angus steak. Simply brilliant and some of the best food I've had anywhere in the world. Stunned that this restaurant is currently ranked 18 in the area, but that's a sign of the fantastic quality shared in the Basel town. This place is among the best.

I would highly recommend this place for any occasion. It is well made, mostly local food with an Italian twist. When we visited we had an excellent Lagrein (wine from SouhTyrol), ravioli with truffles from Baselland (!!), a really amazing starter with pork belly, hummer sauce and shellfish, and the black angus beef with some vegetable pastes and the ossobucco (which was good but just normal as you would also get it any Italian restaurant or at home...)It is not cheap - but worth every franc... the waiters are friendly and they know what they are serving, this is nice, however they could take the guest's coat when they enter the restaurant and bring it back when leaving. I think this would be...

Let me start by saying eating in Basel won't be cheap. With that out of the way, this may as well have been the best dining experience I've ever had in the city - and I live here for a few years now! The restaurants looks elegant but also warm and relaxing - and even the restroom decoration is spot on! Staff were very friendly and took us in although we did not have a reservation for a Saturday evening - which is certainly recommended. The fact that we were there early may have helped. Every single dish ordered was spot on - homemade ravioli, filet cooked to perfection with surprising sides and dessert. We also tried their homemade limoncello and were offered some cake on the house. Certainl...

The food was absolutely delicious! My partner and I had the beef filet: not only was it cooked to perfection, but it also had an unexpectedly scrumptious flavour combination with the calvados and the apples. For dessert, we had the mini crême brûlée trio (of the three, my favourite was the speculos, though the marzipan and port were also tasty), and the almond cake with pear variations (pear cream, pear ice cream, poached pear). Something in me loves when food is flambéed in front of me, so I was pyrotechnically delighted when the crême brûlées arrived, still on fire with the sugar caramelizing right in front of us. We didn't have a starter, but next time, we would certainly come hungrier so...

"Cheval Blanc is the ultimate classic French fine dining experience in Switzerland. We came here to celebrate my birthday while in Switzerland looking for a 3 Michelin stars experience. Located in the historical Grand Hotel Les Trois Rios. The riverside setting is charming and romantic. You start by a welcome drink at the terrace looking at the Rhine greeted by suited , polite and professional staff. The head chef Peter Knogl came to say hi before we moved to the main dining room and service started. The decor and interior is classy retro French with high ceilings, arches, classic chandeliers, large windows and round tables with candles. Ambience is warm and intimate. Service was top notch and impeccable. Staff were all knowledgeable with refreshing attention to details. Cuisine was modern french with Mediterranean influences, flavors were complex and dynamic. Ingredients were chosen carefully and courses were presented beautifully. I liked all of my courses, highlights of the menu were the Sardine Macaron, Langoustine curry, Red Mullet filet and the French saddle of lamb with mediterranean flavors. Wine pairing was excellent and enhanced every course taste and flavor. Sommelier was very professional and knowledgeable yet intimidating a bit. The French Cheese selections from Maître Antony in Ferrette was aromatic, rich and satisfying, Maître Antony is one of the best in the world that many Michelin starred Chefs get their fine cheeses selection from. The night ended well with a couple of delightful desserts courses, few delectable bites and some velvety chocolate. Overall, we had an elevated fine dining experience that will bring me back if in Basel again."
