"I avoid writing negative reviews, but I feel Roast should discontinue its high tea. It started well: the restaurant is lovely, and the table looked nice. Roast is a restaurant, busy and loud, w most patrons NOT enjoying high tea. There was no fine china in sight. Our young, nice waiter knew zero, nada, nothing about the teas served, about seven choices, all but two familiar to us. The tiered servers were plopped unceremoniously on the table w no explanation. The food was tasty, the tea remained hot; no one spoke to us again; we even had difficulty paying our bill. Roast tea was relatively inexpensive. However, 50% of high tea is the trappings, the attention, the pride and knowledge of product. All were lacking at Roast."

Food was poor. Service was really slow. Cost was pretty high for low value.

The service was not as friendly as I am accustomed to at nicer venues. The food was average in flavor and quantity. The lemon cake was particularly dry and undesirable.

great value, good selection of tees and they were very for diets. the setting is beautiful, although we are sitting away from all others, which was a little confusing that our service was slow. eating is overall good, lemon cake a bit dry, scone the stand out View menu

Horrible service took 30 mins to take our order, and then the tea didn’t actually come out and we had to ask for it after we’d gotten our cakes. One of our party is GF and asked for the gluten free option. The cakes were all the same as the one on the regular trays. All in all, quite tacky, and just awful service.

We had afternoon tea at 3pm. The restaurant was still crowded with lunchers but we were given a nice table with a view over the market. The service was good and the food and tea were enjoyable. The only complaint was that we realised towards the end that our clothes were covered in white bits, which must have come from the white napkins. The people at the next table had the same problem. We mentioned this when paying and bill was reduced by 25%.

I felt like we were having afternoon tea at an upscale cafeteria. The room is characterless and collects all the sound of the kitchen, server area and adjacent dining room, which then bounces around the hard surfaces of the barely-separated space. Food and tea are delivered with efficiency in mind: everything is pre-made, and brought out all at once, with oversized teapots intended to hold enough tea to keep staff from having to check in. Fine, but uninspired, and not great for out-of-town guests. View menu

sandwiches (brot) were dry and crusty, but some like the chicken were delicious. chocolate cake and lemon drops also very dry. scones were tasty and dryness was made better with cream and jam. cocktails were beautiful and unique. the service on our side was not amazing. had to stand up to ask someone to take a drink order and for the bill after trying to catch the server eye for 10 minutes each time. but they didn't rush us and we were there for a few hours. would return for their main dish, but probably not again for afternoon tea.

very disappointed by this afternoon tee. we had a bottomless Prosecco afternoon tea and made it barely through a bottle because our waiter literally disappeared and the host and other employees had to ask to get the bottle for us. we were quite much left to our own devices and even had to rise and request the bill. I'd be a little more understanding if the place was messed up and short workers, but we were there with two other tables. it was definitiw not worth the price either the options of the menu were limited and we did not even touch the desserts as they were unpleasant. again, really disappointed if they fall £35 55 pfund pp for a special afternoon tee, I would recommend going elsewhe...
