"Assa is located in a nondescript building on the western edge of Blois. Inside, however, the restaurant displays a spare, modern, Japanese-influenced design. The tables are spaciously arranged on two levels giving all of them access to a direct view of the Loire flowing slowly past. The kitchen is open to the restaurant where the two chef-owners can be seen busily creating the meals. The menu has several format options allowing for the selection of different combinations of appetizers, main courses and desserts; the specific menu contents change based on the available produce. The wine list mainly focuses on Loire Valley wines arranged geographically from the Muscadets of the coastal region to the eastern-most Sancerres. It took some time for the server to acknowledge us when we entered, then take our order, because there was only one person serving all the tables. But, once the dinner began, the experience was wonderful. The dishes are among the most inventive and flavorful we have encountered over the years in many other Michelin-starred restaurants. The non-traditional flavor combinations worked extremely well. The two main courses that night—dourade and veal—were spectacular. Assa is a French, not a Japanese, restaurant, but with a Japanese influence in the flavors and the plating of the dishes. All the dishes we sampled were light and fresh without heavy sauces. The menu was written in French only, and the server spoke very little English, but any sophisticated diner with a broad palate will have a wonderful experience by sitting back and letting the courses flow. As each course is small (a few bites), if you are there for dinner, we do suggest choosing the options with most or all of the courses. Sticking to the classic French “formule” of a starter, main course, and dessert, will be fine for lunch, but perhaps too little at dinner. If we return to this region of the Loire Valley, Assa will be first on our list."

Why, Thank you chefs Maubert & Fumiko. Everything's just delicious, delicate and yummy. First class restaurant. Wow. Really wow! We enjoyed ourselves there. The experience was past my expectations.

This 1 Michelin star restaurant is run by a French chef & his Japanese wife who also works in the kitchen. The Asian influence in the dishes ranges from the immaculate presentation right through to some of the ingredients in their wonderful dishes. We would rate this restaurant in the top category of our favourite restaurants. Don't miss it if you are staying in, or near, Blois.

We booked a couple of months ago and we're glad we did. The food was creative, delicious, and beautifully presented. We had all courses except dessert ( the Quintessence menu) and each was sensational. The Chef is French and the Sous Chef (his wife) is Japanese hence the fusion. We enjoyed an impressive Sancerre recommended by the sommelier. The prices seemed reasonable given the quality and experience. Highly recommended if you enjoy good food and exceptional dining experiences. View menu

Run by a French-Japanese couple, the restaurant overlooks the Loire Valley. We did the full degustation menu and there was not one missed step. Each dish was beautifully plated with flavors to match. There was close attention to flavor and texture with a fine Japanese sensibility. The only unfortunate element was the service. While everyone did their best, they were too short staffed and so, service was rushed when they finally got to you. A pity because that would be one element that would elevate the evening to a truly fine dining experience. However that being said, it was clearly our best meal in the Loire Valley. I would go again.

Half way through this dinner, on our first night in France, on our way from Paris to Bordeaux, I knew I had made a mistake. Although we had other Michelin star restaurants in the itinerary I knew that on this night the bar had been set so high that only disappointment laid ahead. I was not wrong. The flavors, presentation and service easily surpass other one and two star restaurants in Bordeaux and Paris, even some three stars as well. Actually when you consider that Assa does all this at 1/5th the price of the big name 3 star restaurants it is even more astonishing. I would not be surprised if this out of the way gem becomes the next Bulli or Noma.

Assa has a wonderful view on the river Loire but the view is not the most important part of your experience in Assa.We were a couple with a kid and went for the 5 courses menu, with for our 6 years old kid, a simple course with dessert. I won't describe what we ate as the menu is surprise. If you are concerned about the surprise, the waiter gives you a paper with the menu description. You can have a look at it before ordering or let the surprise catch you.Flavours were numerous, surprising and mainly delicious.Service was attentive but discrete and professional. The chef presents at least one course to each table.Compared to one star restaurants we have in Belgium, the value for the quality w... Location - outside of Blois, by the road side facing the Loire river. Use navigation, not difficult to find. Service: impeccable! Very attentive & no rush although they have about 20 diners on that day; full capacity is around 26 pax. Fumiko & Anthony actually serve the food themselves.. Anthony took time to explain each dish that was served. The sommelier was excellent too ( sorry didn't get your name), recommended wine which he thinks is suitable for what have been ordered! Price - you decide for yourself what you want to spend. I attached the menu in the photo. Wine list was shown to us on the iPad so sorry no photo for that. Food - presentation superb! Taste so light and easy not heavy....

Wow. Just Wow. Introduced by friends who rave about their previous experience at Assa, the four of us sat down excitedly at our table overlooking La Loire river for Sunday lunch. We all agreed the Elegence Menu at 62euros with two entrees, a vegetal dish, a main and two desserts (or cheese/dessert) was the best choice. As others have stated you can choose to keep each dish as a 'surprise' or you can turn over the provided menu to see what your options are. I looked at the main dishes in order to choose between fish or meat but left the rest to discover as it arrived. Each dish is a unique experience from the exquisite cutlery and hand crafted dishes to the different techniques used to create n...
