"While finishing our 12 day photo shoot of the Romantic Road in Germany, two days early, we decided to drive 140 miles into eastern France for dinner. We stumbled into Haguenau, France for the evening. What a beautiful Monday night. The new snow drifting earthward...introducing us to the late autumn. We dined at this neighborhood eatery on a whim. The hamburger, medium rare, with a small salad, cooked perfectly, with cheese, pickle and a grilled, buttered bun. We alsodined on, a ham, cheese and potato casserole', The menu item name I will never remember, was moist, warm, cheesy, (not the **** we get in the states), that required 10 minutes to prep. Service was great, the restaurant, classy, clean and well-managed. With a glass of French chablis' and a Cote' de Rhone, the bill was $35.00 Euro. Keep it a secret!"

here is a late dinner. recommended for us from the owner of the gite in which we were. the rosti sampler was excellent, savory and very hearty. server was helpful and the service was not rushed. in any case recommend to eat here.

do not expect a sharp kitchen here, but the menu is on the earth. we had both congratulated, one with laughs and one with sausage; very tasty. the best was the gloomy, the caffe gourmet. a espresso with a small cream bubble, a mousse au chaucolat and a...small piece of cake. the service could be better

We purposely chose to stop for lunch at this restaurant during a drive from Luxembourg to Munich, after reading Trip Advisor reviews. We were looking for an example of local, hearty food, and Au Caquelon delivered. The Rosti dishes shown in the photos (scalloped potato-types...dishes) were excellent, and described by the wait staff as mountain food Service was very friendly, and amused by our French. Plus, the town was nice to visit. Traveler tip the Rosti dish is big enough to split.

With a sister restaurant in Strasbourg, Au Caquelon is exactly what you hope to find in a small town: good food, nice atmosphere, and very reasonable prices. We enjoyed the lunch special which included the salad, main course (rosti and pork tenderloin in a light...cream gravy), a small desert, water, and a glass of local wine for about 15 Euro. Pride of place goes to the rost i (or roesti) which consist of thinly cut potatoes in a cheese in a tasty cheese sauce (possibly Emmental) which is then baked in a small Staub cast iron pan. It is what most potatoes au gratin want to be when they grow up! Our service was quick, efficient and friendly. Without being overly cute, the decor made good use...

"in a large charming building close to the center of schweighouse next to haguenau, we discovered this address not to be missed and ate there twice a day a noon and an evening which makes that we were able to test a lot of dishes. The frame is really nice with a typical Alsatian decor. We enter by a warm first room in front of a long wooden bar and a warm and typical decoration of exposed beams, wood and clin d'oeil to the region gives a little dark style to this room winstub. the second well decorated room is very bright with large glass windows. We feel good. the tables with beautiful large tablecloths and solid chairs are spaced enough. Once the decor is laid, this impression of well-being continues with warm efficient waitress, always a nice little word and especially very pro with good advice on specialties: a service of great quality that contributes to this good time that we are about to go to the table. a note of a nice and tasteful dishes. Finally, and above all, the plate: we have enjoyed ourselves! Once the beer picon is swallowed (with lemon for me), Alsatian specialties to the top. We tasted a bite to the queen of madness (which was awarded with a gold medal), a camembert fried to fall on the ground with generous portions and fragrant potatoes, alsatian salads. the blue cord was extra as well as the fleischkishle (? to check the spelling). a big hat blow to the two cookers seen in the kitchen and the freshness and quality of their products. We also saw several tables ordering brasserade that seems to be one of the specialties of the restaurant: we will test one next time because it really wanted so much it was hearty and nice to eat. There is also a good deal of the torched pie, but on the evening of Thursday to Saturday obviously cooked with wood fire. the wine cellar is also very complete and we have been able to enjoy at very reasonable prices with regard to the frame, service and quality. holiday in the area, it was the discovery of the stay and we recommend this address that has a lot of charm and that is really a concentrate of alsace."
