"We had been to ripon and intended having our lunch over there but with it being a nice sunny day most of the eateries busy so we decided to head home via Boroughbridge walked about and came across the black bull inn the bar staff very warm and friendly apparently Yorkshire’s second oldest pub food was still being served the menu was varied from sandwiches to full cooked dinner we opted for fish pie big chunks of salmon white fish and prawns nice crispy topping we also ordered the steak and ale pie which was magnificent individual handmade portion crammed with large chunks of steak in a beautiful shortcrust pastry homemade chips side portion of vegetables and small jug of gravy both cooked fresh which makes a change from having food warmed through ready in five minutes the pub is very homely with locals and visitors a drinkers pub thank you for serving us with wonderful food"

Friendly welcoming people and good beer. Came in here after being treated with indifference at the Crown Hotel.

This pub is only selling drinks at present but they keep a very good pint (as my hubby would say) We had a lovely evening in there talking to two men who actually come from the area my husband was born in. Just a pity the landlord and his wife are not as friendly towards visitors as they are with the locals.

Booked for an overnight stop for a weekend in the area. We had room 8 which was very nice. We would definately stay here again when in the area. The Inn is very popular with the locals and dog friendly. Not surprised it is popular as the real ales were all in prefect condition and it is a grat place for a drink. Looking forward to a revisit

visited this pub from the 13th century a few times during the stay in boroughbridge and found the renter and the staff very friendly and welcoming. had a delicious and generous Sunday roast (with yorkshire pudding to die for) we would highly recommend. the prices of bitter and white wees were so cheap. If we stay longer, we would definitely be back.

after a walk in the opposite direction called here and had a very good lunch. friendly personal, decent price-performance ratio and good portion sizes. the food was also very delicious. black bull. had the 'cuffed truthahnroulade with swarms in cover, bratkartoffeln, sweet' and a big crawl. I would certainly recommend it. my only point of feedback was a lack of atmosphere.
