"The setting for this IOW gem is breathtaking. It’s easy to forget where you are and believe you’re sat in a taverna on the beach of an unspoilt small Greek island. We were really lucky with the weather which just added to the magic, but...weather alone does not a great restaurant make. Overlooking the wonderful steep hill cove, The Boathouse has an almost exclusively seafood menu, and what a menu. From sea bass to whole lobster, it all looked incredibly mouth watering. It didn’t disappoint either. The baked sea bass ordered was delivered after the wonderful smoked mackerel pate, in a foil parcel. It was simply wonderful. A simple but delicious side salad and some wonderful boiled new potatoes in butter. Add the tasty fresh bread and the ensemble is complete. A great place, wonderfully helpful and attentive staff, great seafood, all with a breathtaking backdrop and that’s the Boathouse. If you can get in, then go. Booking in advance is advised, though we do understand that walk-ins happen too. But good luck with that."

Just fabulous views to enjoy fabulous food. The Fisherman’s Platter is super fresh and a special treat, lobster, crab, prawns potatoes garlic butter.....and you could be sitting in the Caribbean. Steephill Cove is a beautiful spot and well worth the effort.

Four phone calls and one email made and still no booking They have a very laid back approach to taking advance bookings, they only returned a call once and promised to call back in a few day with available dates. Ten days later still awaiting the...call. Have eaten at the boat house many times, the food is excellent, but the booking system is rubbish. Have now given up and will book elsewere.

we visited the boat house for the year in one for my birthday meal. this restaurant is really amazing. it is a beautiful beach restaurant with seafood. the environment is simply stunning in a unique family run that it is just over a long one. windy coast or steps can reach from ventnor. the personal is so attentive and cannot do enough for them. would always recommend the skippers bankett and French sauvignon white wine. must book and take cash only

we had a fantastic visit to the boathouse, we could not have asked for more attentive service from our welcome to departure. the food was amazing, so beautiful and so delicious presented! a great thank you to sian for her geduld, which we booked in advance and. then we had to change our booking date twice, we were told that we would have one table inside, but it felt like our table was outside, but we could still feel the brise and the sun. we got the opportunity to go outside and dessert and we jumped on the chance! we highly recommend this restaurant. Incredible food, wein and service. Many thanks to the employees who make our day so special, we look forward to a new visit.

eating was very good for what we had ordered as a family. the table we were assigned was very low and disappointing to have a meal. the social distancing was very bad, we had expected that the personal mask wears as we have seen in other restaurants, but that was not the case at our visit. it felt like there was no social distancing to be observed. the service of the personal was below par with taking one that seemed to cover for all others, missing drinks cutlery not available, people waving hands to get attention to order, but some of the dinge attention to detail. although a beautiful restaurant it would not be our first choice to return. it was a scandal that we are happy about our visit...

If you're humming and hawing about visiting this idyllic restaurant, just do it! Sure, it's a bit on the pricier side, but the value for money is outstanding. The setting is so incredibly relaxing and amazingly beautiful, the staff are fantastically welcoming, polite and friendly,...and the food is unlike anything I've ever had. Beautifully presented, utterly delicious, and super filling. The best dining experience I've ever had. Our server Kym was attentive, knowledgeable and went the extra mile, setting us up a table specifically so we could have a great seat on their upper deck. It's seafood/shellfish focused but there are other options for those who are not a fan. Hard to criticise any a...

We have been dining at this gem of a place for over years! The restaurant is only open for lunch, from the end of May until early September, so we try and eat there several times during that period. Steephill Cove is stunning ..our favourite place on the whole of the Isle of Wight and this restaurant has tables looking our over the sea and rocky beach. The main menu is mainly lobster, crab and huge prawns, with sea bream on the specials menu and steak and chips for those not inclined to eat anything fishy! I am always torn between having the dressed crab salad and the smoked salmon with cream cheese salad. The mackerel pate starter is also recommended. Plus, different desserts, including ice...

"What a shame, had high expectations, food was not at fault, compliments to the chef but service was non existent, in fact we were treated as if we didn’t even exist. Originally booked Afternoon tea for 3 to celebrate a family members birthday, however as they were poorly and could not attend my partner and I still decided to attend on this rainy afternoon. When we arrived at 3.45pm it was quite busy, there was a table set up for 2 but it was right next to the entrance to the hotel bar and an empty table next to the windows at the front of the hotel.I called a waiter over and asked if we could move to the other table and they were obliging helping me and my partner move the plates and cutlery, that’s where the service ended. The afternoon tea arrived for 3 not 2, despite the fact we phoned them earlier this day to advise it would be for 2 and our table was only set up for 2, when they realised they quickly scurried the third tea away. We were enjoying the food and thought we may include some champagne and upgrade tea, but not one waiter for the rest of our time there came over. No one came over to ask if we were enjoying it nor if everything was alright. Several of the other tables and parties ended and within 45mins of us being there a manager appeared and with other staff members started moving furniture around us, they continued to ignore us and kept moving furniture and talking loudly over the banging of the furniture which overall was really distracting to the point I was struggling to hear my partner talk and was actually in disbelief that they could all see us there including the manager and they totally ignored us or the fact we had not finished our tea, I was so shocked I actually took a video and photos and they didn’t look at us once. I had to eventually stop a waiter in his tracks to ask for a box and again fr the bill. The bill arrived and the charged us for 3 teas??? So we then had to again flag another person down to redo the bill, I am gutted because we were really looking forward to spoiling ourselves and the food was good, but the service ruined the whole thing, I am thankful that the birthday girl didn’t have to experience that as that would have been mortifying."
