"The barista was charming and amusing, made a superb hot chocolate with the works my husband said it 's good enough to come back for, even with the hill! The sandwiches were delicious, just perfect for lunch, and reasonably priced. The book selection is eclectic (and I was amused to find a German copy of the Geisha) and the sofas super comfy. I found a fun novel to enjoy, I loved the idea of the book return discount and the pecan toffee cookies were very tasty indeed. Heads up, because it 's such an old and protected building, there isn 't anywhere for bathroom facilities, but there 's public toilets up to the left of the castle, a couple of minutes walk up the road one set is 20p, or inside the castle walls is free. Charge me rent, I 'd be happy to stay! "

Lovely welcoming cafe. Stopped for a cuppa and cake and a rest after walking up, but definitely worth it. Attentive and friendly staff. Beautiful coffee.

Lovely atmosphere, great coffee, great hospitality. Very welcoming and a really calm place. Due to covid only pre prepared sandwiches available so get there early

We found this place purely by chance on Steep Hill. There are tables outside. The sandwiches are lovely and fresh and the coffee was great. The staff are so friendly and helpful. Highly recommend.

Found this cracking hideaway on my journey up the hill. The chap that served me (I didn’t catch his name) couldn’t have been more helpful. Great coffee and a superb ethos with the book element. Long live the independent coffee shop!

Today I visited again with my brother for a take away coffee. It is the best tasting coffee in Lincoln. Please during current times keep small local businesses open by using them and not buying from the large chains. Great polite service with a smile.

Loved the layout of the cafe, meant that wherever we sat we wouldn't be sitting right next to anyone which was convenient for social distancing. The food was lovely and the customer service was beyond friendly! A nice break after walking up the steep hill on the way to the cathedral. Definitely recommend.

Looking round Lincoln we wanted a coffee. Most around the main street were full, so heading back towards the cathedral we saw this cafe. It was ideal. Seating inside for about 12 separated by shelves of books, and seating outside too. Food choice was limited as we were there on a Monday, and all the cakes are homemade so he was awaiting a fresh supply. We had a couple of sandwiches which were tasty. Coffee was good and you can read any of the books if you want.

Stopped here while waiting to check in to our hotel. The chap behind the counter was very friendly, warm and patient with our dithering. He also explained the story of the building, which is a really different and cosy environment. They have a massive variety of teas/coffees as it's partnered with the tea-shop above. There are (obviously) lots of books around the place, with plenty of amusing titles that catch your eye. There is no toilet, but the chap kindly gave us change and directions to the public toilet up the road. Definitely recommend.

"From the outside, it looks like another tacky eatery in a street lined with tacky takeaways. Walk through the door and pleasantly surprised. A little deli counter, a back room then a garden. The garden overlooks a derelict abandoned overgrown garden. Not a problem, I am used to this in Athens. What is the problem, and I don’t see in Athens, tenants throwing rubbish out of their windows into the garden. It is ideal breeding ground for rats. The local environmental health should investigate, and if needed carry out enforcement action. To sit outside or not? Maybe too cool when the sun went in, and too hot if it came out as no shade. I decided to sit inside, near the back door. A red rose on the table is a neat touch. I was the only diner. Oh but we were busier earlier. Strange how I am always told, if you’d have been here when you weren’t here, we were busy. The menu was singurly uninspiring. Why panini’s? Everywhere does paninis. I have never understood why. Or pasta. The choice penne (which I don’t like), or spaghetti (which I dislike slightly less) I chose spaghetti Bolognese. It arrived seemingly quick. I was asked when I placed my order, did I wish for Parmesan cheese? It was added in the kitchen. Usually brought to and added at the table. Spaghetti Bolognese is not an Italian dish. It was an artificial dish with elements of North and South. The spaghetti mediocre at best, the Bolognese sauce excellent. I was going to leave but decided to stay. I chose tiriamasiu for dessert. Coffee, Illy, no thanks. For coffee walk to Madame Waffle or Coffee Aroma. I visited a couple of weeks ago, the previous week I found closed."

"We always have a great meal here. Kine is a little bit different to a lot of restaurants around Lincoln. It totally has it 's own style and vibe. The menu is very compact, with just a handful of starters, mains and deserts. But... That is precisely why I like it. Each option (and I have been 3 times now) is well crafted, full of flavour and just a little bit different AND totally accesible. Everything option feels special, but not intimidating. The battered green beans are incredible, the n 'duja mac 'N ' cheese balls are great, the spiced koftas are full of flavour. The vege options are just as appealing and tasty as the meat options, which for me is an excellent reflection on the creativity and talent of the team. The front of house staff are accomodating, charming, polite and fun and the whole vibe has a bit of the je ne sais quoi about it. For a meal out for a couple, or small group who appreciate good honest and interesting food, I would highly recommend it. Vegetarian options: Great selection of vegetarian meals, which are just as tasty as the meat options. Service: Dine in Meal type: Dinner Price per person: £20–30 Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5 Recommended dishes: Key Lime Pie, Crispy Tempura Green, Salted Caramel Macadamia Chocolate Tart, Tempura Green Beans and Roasted Cauliflower Hummus, Ras El Hanout Spiced Koftas Recommendation for vegetarians Highly recommend Vegetarian offerings Vegetarian menu or section, Clearly labeled vegetarian dishes"
