"Very excited to give Botanica at the Barn a try for dinner, and had high hopes for special occasion. Unfortunately when you will charge fine dining prices, you expect a fine dining experience, and it sadly failed on this front. The food and service doesn't deliver a correspondent experience to the price. A langoustine dish had just six scrawny langos on it £21), and beyond this was quite unexceptional. Fat on the lamb chop mains was not rendered down, and served simply with potato £22). Napkins were not replaced after the starter course, and again the service just does not tally with the price point here. The ambiance/ temperature was quite cold for a September evening, and we were particularly displeased at the £4.50 bread choice and oil 2 small slices, very yummy but extortionate). It is a nice try, but is punching above its weight class. Very few locals noted due to the high prices. We left feeling hungry, and that it did not offer value for money in Argyll. Costs have increased, yes, but this was disproportionate pricey for the experience and professional service costs nothing."

I had a delightful lunch at this restaurant, enjoying a delicious meal of langoustines and mussels in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. It was a real treat while staying in the area.

Delicious dinner and lovely ambience. Staff friendly and good service. A great find. I had feta, sweetcorn and chilli spread on homemade sourdough, followed by bouillabaisse. Really yummy!

Excellent food, in a pleasant, rural setting. We had paella, which was more shellfish than rice, and one of us had the scallops (small serving) which was two large scallops in their shells.

Great for lunch, brunch and coffee. Delicious food, cakes and bread. In Millhgouse on road to Ostel Bay. Well worth a visit. Free range hens wandering in yard and wonderfully hospitable hosts. View menu

Went there at 1030 on a Thursday. A handwritten sign on the road said “Open”. Drove up the pebbly drive only to be met with a second sign saying “Closed”. Would be good if the sign on the road reflected when it was open/closed.

I stumbled upon this restaurant and was pleasantly surprised by their unique and delicious menu. We enjoyed a fantastic lunch consisting of venison carpaccio, followed by a generous portion of mussels in a flavorful garlic and cream sauce, and chicken shawarma. Definitely recommend checking it out.

We ate a beautifully cooked, nicely presented simple but delicious local ingredients, yellow split pea and leek soup, langoustines piled on toasted bread, baked in the restaurant. The place itself has a very cool, quirky laid back vibe. Great ambience. Book ahead and prepare to be flexible.Very different. View menu

I know the food there is good but it the restaurant is often closed when we get there. When we went on this occasion during their advertised opening hours we were told that they are only open on specific days of the week. Not that day a Thursday. It does close early but we arrived as we thought in plenty time. The problem mainly is that to get there we had to drive up an unmade very bumpy road. A sign at the end of the road indicating OPEN or CLOSED would be helpful.

We were recommended to try this restaurant by our hotel, the Royal an Lochan, and we were certainly not disappointed! Located in Millhouse, just 2 miles from Tighnabruaich, this hidden gem is a beautifully converted old barn with friendly and knowledgeable staff. The food was truly exceptional - we started with prosciutto and damson jam, and haggis and black pudding fritters with homemade piccalilli, both of which were outstanding. For my main course, I enjoyed a perfectly cooked aged rump steak from Isle of Bute, served with fried onions, broccoli, and truffle chips. The chips were a taste sensation, and the dessert of plum, apple, pear, and chocolate pudding with raspberry ice cream was eq...

"On our last day here, killing time before the ferry, decided to try luncheon here. No expectations either way. And we were TOTALLY wowed it was just excellent. Trying not to put too many superlatives in this review, but it was really, really ace. We had a lovely table by the window overlooking the harbour where you could see dog walkers, children in wellies, crabbing, and little boats coming and going. Classic Islay. Then I have to mention the food. Jeez, it was top notch, and huuuuuuuge portions. I don’t think we’ve ever had four such consistently generous and fulfilling portions before. We had the scallops (massive, juicy, plentiful , the Crofter’s Platter, which was cheeses, hams, sausage rolls, salad, bread, chutneys; the soup massive bowl, loadsa crispy sourdough bread, and the fish and chips which was so big it draped over the plate! All delicious. Our guy, Andrew, was superb, so attentive and smiley and always bringing us more things, spoons, drinks, more bread, spoons, he was great. And we had a lovely chat with the very friendly and nice proprietor. She was wonderful. Really seemed to care about the place and her team. She told us all about the hotel and stuff it was really cool. We will most certainly come back here next time. You can’t necessarily get the best table every time, but we won’t mind if we don’t! : Oh, also, lovely clean loos!"

"We booked this restaurant after reading the reviews while touring Scotland what a disappointment. When we arrived we were shown to a table straight behind the door and as it kept opening and shutting it blew a massive amount of cold air in. As both parents and staff allowed 2 young children to go in and out every few minutes it got a bit much. We were given the menu and told specials were on the board. No description or recommendation. Also they did not say the board also goes over the top of the fish on didplay. I had crab claws to start the mayonnaise was lovely and what I could get out of the claws was nice but I was given no instruments to get into the claws and they were not broken enough for them to just pull out. I ordered the turbut for main as did my husband it was a small fillet with the skin correctly removed but it was loaded with garlic butter sauce you couldn't taste the fish for the garlic. Also which was worse I don't know what they did to the top of it but it was yellow and like thin rubber. We had to peel it off it was not good. I didn't complain at the time because I am not used to having a fillet of turbut. When I have had it before my husband and I have shared a turbut presented whole at the table. I have only written this today after speaking to some friends who said i should put something on because there had to be something wrong for the top of the fish to be yellow and leathery. You might guess but I won't be going back."
