"My family and I came here for my birthday. It was an excellent time with the service being exceptional. All the servers were extremely friendly and helpful. The food was fantastic, although the curried parsnip soup whilst delicious was perhaps on the under-spiced side. The steak was perfectly cooked to my liking and had a delicious deep flavour. The chocolate bread and butter pudding topped off the meal wonderfully. We did visit on a Thursday and so it was fairly empty as we sat upstairs but the decor of local art was delightful. "We drove an hour to get there, it was well worth it. I'm assured the steak and the lobster were excellent, and my fish was superb. The menu was well thought out, not a big range but a sufficient variety to suit most tastes. Waiting times were of that length where you're not wondering where your food has gone, nor worried it was hurried. Probably a nice view out to sea during the day...(evening visit, dark out) Yes. Go. Also, the alcohol free IPA was surprisingly ok."

"This wasn’t our first visit (the previous occasion was more positive than this) but this was really quite poor. Problem after problem, service was poor and just not very welcoming. Firstly, drinks weren’t available issues with draft, but then bottles weren’t available either. So there was a very limited selection of drinks on offer and the staff weren’t proactive in advising what was available. So it was request and receive a no! Secondly, the food was poor. The starters were shocking. Really quite bad. There was a bit of redemption from some of the mains, but we elected to not proceed with anything else as it wasn’t great. We had to wait ages for drinks and foods to arrive despite the fact that the restaurant was practically empty and many staff present. Frequently there were 3 staff at the back of the room standing about chatting, but they weren’t attentive to our needs. They didn’t check around the room to see if guests required additional drinks or require plates clearing. They didn’t check to see how the food was and when we complained regarding a starter they simply didn’t know how to handle it. When the draft beer came back on there was no proactive behaviour in returning to the table and letting us know so that more drinks could be ordered. Drinks were poured in wrong glasses, plates were cleared whilst people were still eating and then not cleared when they needed to be! Simply put the staff working had no idea on what table service should be perhaps they had received no training which is a major failing when the restaurant is part of a hotel. It was not welcoming. The restaurant was freezing cold. The service was really very poor and the food disappointing. They also don’t take dogs which in Aldeburgh is a bit weird. There is plenty of space and the tables are large so they would not be in the way. We won’t be returning."

"Went in on Monday the 21st of august at around 8pm with a party of 8. We all ordered everything was okay until my pizza came and i found a very sharp piece of plastic on top of my pizza it was like a piece of plastic cutlery had been snapped in half. It was around 3cm big and white so luckily when i went to eat the pizza i felt it hit my lip otherwise i could have easily have choked. Being 16 however i would have been advantaged of knowing that it shouldn’t have been there however if this plate was given to a child they wouldn’t have known and they probably would’ve swallowed it and choked because it was sharp and could have got lodged anywhere, its disgusting. I told the waitress and she looked at it and took my pizza away then brought me back another one. This pizza was burnt to a crisp underneath as it was rushed. Its not acceptable nothing was done either. No money refunded nothing taken off the bill not even an apology it was a disgrace. After all this we get the bill it comes with a £17 service charge after what had happened its not good enough. Would not recommend, can get a lot bigger portions elsewhere for your money."

"I really liked this multi-roomed Adnams pub situated across the road from the 17th century Moot hall and seafront gardens. If you enter from the sea facing side then you walk through two front areas mainly aligned for dining before reaching the bar and an additional two areas which are more set up just for drinking. A nice Creme and sea blue decor throughout and plenty of period black and white photos of the local area to provide some character. 4 Adnams ales were on with the usual Broadside, Southwold Bitter and Ghostship, but I went for the Regatta golden ale and very good it was. We were only in for drinks on this lunchtime as we intended to graze from the seafood shacks on the stone beach a short walk away, and I like the fact that there was a good mix of people eating and just drinking, even in the front two rooms. This was probably the pick of the pubs I tried in Aldeburgh."
