"We had dinner there and ordered duck terrine and backed prawns for starters. Both sounded better than how they tested. Steak Chateaubriand was not grilled properly, there was no charcoal, it was simply fired. Quality of meat was ok for £68.00 but nothing that I..."

Dreadful food, burnt flatbread and dry falafel. Only saving grace was the dessert. Expensive bland food, should be offering better food than this in the heart of the New Forest!

We booked a table for 7 well in advance of my husband's 75th birthday lunch. We checked the menu and an example menu was emailed to us. We confirmed that one of our party was vegetarian. On the day, 19 February, the weather was cold,...

how this place is 5 star is beyond me. Restaurant staff need serious training . Sunday lunch is awful. table staff need training and the quality of the food is grim. The young guy who served us should be back at school not waiting on...

Went for lunch. Not child or family friendly. No children’s menu. Service was fine but we were the only people in the restaurant on a Friday afternoon. They are trying to be a “pig” style but just doesn’t work and they are missing a real...

We had a wonderful meal, each course was beautifully presented. So many colours, tastes and textures. I was dining with a non vegan relative, she said the food was delicous and would choose to order it again. Service and surroundings also excellent.

We had a very pleasant lunch. Hotel has lovely decor with a good mix of traditional and modern. Service very good. Good very good. Only downside was that we were only people eating lunch that day. No atmosphere. Second time this has happened at this...

My husband and I visited on a Saturday evening. The lounge area is nicely upmarket, comfy sofas and great service. We ordered the sourdough bread and arancini for starters both excellent. The bread was fresh and the arancini was flavoursome and had just the...

"My Wife and I don't travel so well these days but decided to go a little further afield from our usual Highcliffe and Christchurch haunts we live in Mudeford. We went twice in point of fact. The first visit was the 21st June when My wife and I had a quiet Birthday celebration lunch prior to the Family celebration later in the day. It was excellent. We only had the Mains and despite it being busy and not having booked we were served promptly and cheerfully with a round of drinks. My Wife had Chicken Pie and I had Liver and Bacon. Both were excellent and my Wifes vegetables were freshly done. I don't have vegetables. We liked it so much we went back three days later to celebrate our youngest Daughters birthday and again had lunch before the Family celebration later in the day. The meal was as fabulous as three days prior. My Wife had a Chicken Roast, our Daughter had Beef Roast and I had an amazingly well filled Steak and Merlot Pie of the Week. As before the vegetables were freshly done. Unusually for us we also had puddings (Lemon Meringue, Bailey's Cheescake and Apple Tart with Custard. All were excellent. All washed down with Tea and a Latte the former being served in nicely twee Teapots. Total cost £80 for the three of us on the second visit. Worth every penny. All in all First Class and couldn't fault it. Disabled parking nicely located in the front with ample parking for those more mobile at the side and back. Just a note for History buffs. The main building was built in 1853 by John Harrison(? a Carpenter thus the name Carpenters Arms."
