"My friend and I had been shopping in Crook so before returning home to Weardale we thought we would pop into Cafe J’s for a quick snack. Well it was only tea and crumpets but it hit the spot as the tea was not weak like many cafes and was lovely tasting plus the crumpets were well done which suited my friend and I. Lovely and hot, served with plenty of butter. It’s the most friendly place and a great atmosphere."

I enjoyed a delicious breakfast at a reasonable price. The restaurant offers a wide variety of cakes as well as hot and cold food options. The food was cooked perfectly and I was very satisfied with my meal. View menu

I traveled from Darlington to visit the market and stumbled upon this charming café. The food was freshly cooked to order and the breakfast was delicious and served hot. I will definitely be returning in the future.

We were in need of a quick snack and decided to stop by this restaurant. The food was nice, inexpensive, and tasty. I ordered a simple bacon English muffin sandwich, while my husband had the ham and cheese on a ciabatta roll. Both dishes were very enjoyable. The staff members were friendly. Overall, it's a great place to grab a cheap meal. View menu

Lunchtime snack turned into full plate. Baked potato with cheese savoury and salad. Beautiful. Also corned beef slice and beans.once again plentyful. This was recommended by a local as we stopped for coffee during pandemic. Second visit Would I recommend Definitely. Use council car park across road in square as parking restricted to half hour.

We travel a forty mile round trip to visit Cafe Js and it always provides a great meal. All day breakfast, sandwiches and jacket potatoes amongst other things. I had tuna jacket potato and filter coffee. Simple food but plentiful and good quality. Cake, snacks and nice atmosphere. Papers available. Toilet clean, Cafe has been painted this year and the decor is fresh.

"Started off really well and went over to the counter and ordered a crepe with banana and Nutella and specifically stated no strawberries I also asked for a San Pelegríno still water as this was on the menu also. I was the first person to order and the last to eat in the end. I got brought my water over which was a cheaper brand water that I just paid £2 for what would I have liked to have seen ? We’ll when I asked for san pelligrino still water to be told that they don’t have that in. Finally my crepe comes and I take a bite and realise that it’s got strawberries in all the way through which I’m allergic too. One of my family members takes it back and says that I asked for banana not strawberry there’s a reason why I can’t eat it and didn’t want it on my crepe. Then 5 minutes later another crepe comes out that was my bitten crepe that someone had opened up and picked the strawberries out and put banana in. Disgusting absolutely … not sure if this was a mistake or just being stingy either way it’s not on. It then again gets returned because there is no way I am eating that and it gets explained once again there is a reason I can’t eat strawberries to which then one of the owners comes over to serve the correct crepe and apologise . I really hope a lesson was learnt today because cross contamination is not a joke. Please be careful when eating there. I didn’t get offered a refund but then again they were willing to serve me a bitten crepe again so it didn’t surprise me that much."
