"From the moment we were pointed to our table things looked bad the restaurant area was empty except for our reservation which at 7.30pm on a Saturday evening should have meant alarm bells should have rung! The menus were crumpled, the table was sticky and the beer was flat, even the shandy! The meal was extremely poor everything was just heated up from a packet or the freezer. My meal was so bad we said we wouldn't pay for it and my husband was told that we should have alerted them earlier when the waiting staff checked back however they didn't check back, although they did bring us an additional handful of ketchup satchets!? We had previously been to the pub for a drink a year ago and it had seemed nice unfortunately our experience this evening was thoroughly disappointing."

Disappointing food. Expensive. Not made welcome by ‘Locals’ They definitely need to up their game, just because they are a holiday destination. Don’t take advantage

Thank you Patsy for an excellent stay. You were very accommodating and clearly very busy with lots of customers. Really nice breakfast and warm welcome. Will definitely be back.

We were unable to secure a table for dinner at a nearby pub, so we decided to try this pub on a whim. Despite being fully booked, they were still able to accommodate us. The staff were wonderful, the meal was good, and the beer was very enjoyable. Thank you to everyone for saving our Friday night.

Booked in last minute at The Castle and had the lasagne plus a pizza. We arrived Saturday and can honestly say this is the best meal we’ve had to date. Booked again for this Thursday. The others were ‘okay’ (but not from The Castle). The 2 lads serving tonight (11/9/23) were really friendly and helpful.

I recently dined at this restaurant as a walk-in. I ordered the Chicken Tandoori with rice and the steak and ale pie. The food was very basic and of poor quality. The pie was mostly air and the curry had very little meat. It took almost an hour for our food to arrive. I will choose to eat elsewhere in the future.

The restaurant was crowded when we got there. The waitress was pleasant and was able to seat us. We ordered from a typical menu. It took 45 minutes for our food to be served. The food was okay but the locals were impolite and used foul language. I will not be coming back when I visit my family in this area again.

Our children have a holiday home in the village so this was a grandchildren visit . We called in one night for a family drink and had a pleasant timne. Good advice about the local ales. Later in the week we had a family meal. Excellent pub Grub served with stytle and humour. The children were well satisfied and we all had good, sufficient meals. A great village local.

A fantastic welcome awaits you at the Castle, wether you stay the night or just for food the team here will ensure you are looked after. The rooms are nicely appointed and clean have conformable beds. The food is lovingly cooked and there is a great selection catering for all dietary requirements. The Inn is family run and you will be looked after like family. Booking for food advised as it’s gets busy.

We were staying in Porlock for a few days, ate in The Castle on two occasions, we took our little dog as it was dog friendly, food was fantastic, very tasty and piping hot, had Sausage and mash with 3 sausage beautiful, service was great to. Only thing on the first night they put us on a small table by the men's toilet, sat on small stools a bit uncomfortable, but the second night we had a lovely table, when in Porlock again we would definitely go back.

"Yet again we needed to celebrate having resolved a long standing technical problem. The pub in Brompton Regis came up in discussion the evening before when our neighbour was around for a glass of wine. He said that before coming to our village he’d looked at houses in Brompton Regis. He left and we booked a table. Friday was a damp day but we were not deterred as we drove up into the Brendon Hills, usually distant views greet one but this day the clouds were dominant. However as we descended from Roborough Gate towards Wimbleball Lake we could turn off the wipers. By the time we crossed the bridge at the top of the lake a shaft of sun broke through and sparkled across the surface of the water whilst light wisps of mist kissed the shore line. Rounding the churchyard wall always raises our expectations for there is the George Inn. The bar door was hardly open before Tash, a beaming smile, greeted us with a price board for ‘COFFEE’. I said in my previous review that I wouldn’t mention coffee at the George again, sorry, but I must. The coffee machine had arrived the day before. Well done Tripadvisor the George! We had a wonderful starter of Baba Ganoush, new to the menu that day. It was exceptionally good with delicate flavour. Following on was chicken breast and pasta with tomato sauce, again great flavour though my wife found it a little too greasy. My Bengal curry was fantastic and a most generous serving. Our ‘Desert,’sic, was Chocolate Ganache with pistachio ice cream under crunched nuts. I had the steamed maple syrup pudding set in a delicious whisky sauce, a very delicate and light texture, just right to finish on after the curry! Of course we had our long awaited espressos from the new device, a delicious finale to our meal. Earlier in walkers had dropped in wanting a coffee. Now all on Exmoor should be heading to the George for their ‘hit’."
