"Firstly Id say that if there really are over 100 better restaurants in Saint Jean de Luz than Chez Theo then thats only a fine compliment on the quality of establishments in the town. We had 3 fine set menus for only 20 euros, if slightly concerned about the speed at which they were served. Prawns were plentiful, Gaspazcho was sound if not spectacular, salad was fresh and generous. Fillet of Hake with veg was beautiful, Paella a bit safe. All puddings delicious (blancmange, pannacotta, fondant). Recommended for a no risk dinner with the hake the highlight, they know how to cook fish."

Charming staff. great set menu and also wonderful seafood. Really recommend the tuna and the seafood platter. I'm ashamed to also say that the chips were the best in Saint Jean de Luz. Classy, I know!

Enjoyable lunch on a very hot day but inside the restaurant was cool the set menu basque style was more than enough for lunch with a good local rose. We arrived at 12.15 about 1/3 of tables were taken by 1 pm it was full.

Dinner for two last night started with Gaspacho for each of us then we shared a paella. This tasty meal was more than enough for two and was had in a friendly and warm atmosphere. Highly recommended for adults and family meals.

We arrived at 13:15, left at 16:00! The place was busy and we weren't in a hurry, but the paella did seem to take over an hour to cook! Some of the staff were friendly, others a little "standoffish"The paella was very nice, seafood and chicken, nicely cooked. View menu

Tucked away at the end of a side alley off the main street. Old fashioned dark wooden interior, chalet style. There is also outside seating. The waitress who was very helpful recommended sharing a ' Hake ' and we were served up a large tasty fish, very good value.

is good but very badly served for the price. 21€ for 50 g of cornets, 5 g of chorizo and 100 g of potatoes. Even the good atmosphere does not change. It's a whisper. The encornet, this morning is 20€ at rungis. If you have money to lose go. Or run to Dantxaria. The same thing x 4 for 11€.

We loved it! The children's menu was the best my kids ever ate (fresh fish and homemade fries). We took the grilled prawns (a la plancha) with the grilled vegetables and some exotic sauce (the only regret was that the vegetables were a bit scarce). The dessert was delicious (strawberry tiramisu with a zest of mint). Very friendly staff. We shall return. View menu

I'm surprised to see the poor reviews here as this was one of the better restaurants we ate at in St. Jean de Luz. Really friendly server and great food, especially for the cost. We had the fish of the day for two and it was delicious. Potatoes and veggies that came with it were also full of flavour instead of being on the sidelines. Nice atmosphere and relaxed. There seemed to be a lot of locals there which is always a good sign. Great dinner for the price and a bit away from the tourist squares.

Once you have tried the other places in the town, this casual place is what you need. Great produce, cooked to perfection without destroying the flavour with butters or transfats. We had the special of the day. A Hake fished by the fisherman of the town the night before, garnished with a trio of courgettes and a fine real-potato mash. This place may not be as high as others in the list but certainly much better place and also a bit quaint. Great stuff and service that speaks many different languages. They have all the menus in English too.
