"My hubby and I ordered fish, chips and peas for lunch. I told the waitress who was very nice) I needed the peas to be cooked soft as I have difficulty swallowing hard food and to make sure they were hot. I assumed the fish would be battered, which I shouldn 't have done. When the meal came, the peas were too hard for me, so they hadn 't been cooked enough to my liking and only just warm. The fish was breaded not battered. It looked overcooked at one end as it was very hard! Both our fish portions were of the same size. I think this fish was NOT fresh but had just been taken out of a packet and cooked from frozen! Not good! The chips were nice and fluffy on the inside, but there weren 't that many of them! On paying, I told the another) waitress that I hadn 't been able to eat the peas or the outside of the fish as it was breaded not battered. All she said was Oh, I 'm sorry about that. That 'll be £20 please ! Awful attitude should have offered a discount) and won 't be having fish and chips there again. Fine if you like frozen fish!"

Very watery soup which was far too hot and the promised knife to spread our rolls with butter never appeared. General service was a bit poor not knowing what soup was on offer and generally a bit disorganised. Asked fir one slice of bread and got two. Wouldn’t recommend.

A lovely friendly and spotlessly clean atmosphere, we came in for a breakfast.. Well, it was delicious. I had a half breakfast! It was plenty, freshly cooked and tasty my hubby had a full with Haggis.. Again delicious. The waitress was very polite and friendly and we would definitely come again.

The staff were supportive to the older people in the cafe. However the sandwiches and baked potato we ordered was very poor quality. Possible the worst I have tasted. The bill was not as advertised which is not acceptable and the response from staff when challenged was disappointing. The children’s menu was okay. Would not recommend and will never return. Chimes is a great find, its a real destination dining venue for us. Why? Because the food is genuine home cooks food, catering for (in our case) vegan and gluten free options which can be challenging to find. There salads are fresh and tasty, and the cakes are second to none and all home baked. Chimes is a wonderful family run business, where they truly aim to serve.

As title says I went for full breakfast , excellent value as it includes toast and a hot drink or orange juice. Food was fantastic, I'd say tastiest I had, best compliment is it was standard of a a good b and b. To say it was hot was an understatement, it was piping hot. The girls who served me where just right balance of being professional and friendly without being over bearing. Only reason it didn't get 5 stars is and these only minor criticisms. The tables are very close together, the back of my chair was almost touching the ladies chair behind , and the toast not served in a separate plate, it's placed on top of the main breakfast. So no choice but to place it on the table cloth. Noneth...

"Genuinely couldn't fault the experience. When I heard that the Drouthy had a new menu focusing more on a veggie and vegan base, I knew I had to give it a whirl. The starter of hot Smoked salmon with lemon creme fraiche and oatcakes was simple yet packed full of flavour. I could have easily have had 10 plates of that and been happy to give it 5 stars. My partner had the smoked duck and even though I have given up meat, I was salivating at the look of their dish. They assure me that it was as delicious as it looked. Served with lavender roasted potatoes (which I'm told were amazing and charred salsify. The mains were more than a match for the brilliant starters. If I could give one piece of advice, it would be get the beetroot risotto. Not being a massive fan of beetroot, I wasn't too sure about it. But the incredibly warm waiter (for my son's, I never got his name. I only hope he can forgive me if he reads this! assured me it was tasty. He was not wrong. Beautifully cooked vegan risotto with balsamic beetroot chunks, shiitake mushrooms and rocket, it was simply divine. WHEN I go back, I'll be hard pressed to go for anything else because it was so delicious. It was creamy, packed full of flavour and cooked absolutely perfectly. Just the right amount of bite, nowhere near being mush like you get in a lot of other places (who charge a lot more, by the way . Superb. The highest of compliments to the chef. I was so taken by my dish I forgot to ask how my partner's was until I had eaten all of mine. But their home made vegan tagliatelle had disappeared from the plate so it must have been amazing. I couldn't handle dessert so had a delicious ruby port (delaforce I think it was called , and I would also like to give credit to whoever came up with their wine list. It covered every single base and no-one could ever be disappointed. Finally, if you're ever in Elgin, please make sure this is one of your destinations. You will leave extremely happy."
