"My family and I traveled from Sheffield to Newcastle for a break between Christmas and New Year's. We made a reservation for five at the Coach and Horses for a family meal. Unfortunately, upon arrival, we were told that the "steak special" advertised on the display board was not available. This was not a big issue for us, however, when trying to order a few 'sizzling' meals, we were again informed that these were also unavailable. After re-examining the menu and placing our orders, we were then told that there was no rice available for several of our dishes. We felt that our time and money were wasted on a round of drinks that should have been refunded. Instead of playing the game of "guess what is available from the menu," we left the restaurant feeling very disappointed."

I highly recommend this amazing pub for its delicious steak and irresistible pies. The staff are friendly and the beer is cheap. I give it a perfect 10 out of 10 rating.

Just been for a late lunch/early dinner. Had a hot beef baguette, and my girlfriend had the hunters chicken. Very tasty with lots on the plate, all of it was tasty and filling. The staff were very friendly and welcoming, definitely recommended, and we will return for more. View menu

Had a sunday lunch at this pub and had a very nice meal with very friendly staff.Great pub for kids as there are play areas inside and outside. The food was very nice but I would ask for separate gravy as there was too much on my plate.Great value and very tasty. We shall return for further lunches.

This straightforward roadside pub features a playroom and bouncy castle in the beer garden, serving up generous portions of delicious Pub Grub with a smile. It's a convenient spot to grab a bite before hitting the A1. Prices range from £10 to £20 per person, and the food, service, and atmosphere all receive a rating of 4 out of 5.

I stopped by this restaurant after visiting my brother and found the staff to be extremely friendly and welcoming. Although I didn't have the chance to try the food myself, the dishes I saw being served to other customers looked delicious. I would definitely return in the future. Overall, I would rate the service and atmosphere a perfect 5 out of 5. View menu

My mom and I dined at this restaurant yesterday and had a fantastic experience. The service was excellent, the food was delicious (I had the Carbonara and she had the Mince and Dumplings), and it was served promptly. We both thoroughly enjoyed our meals and found the staff to be very friendly. I would highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a dining option in the Birtley area. You won't be disappointed. The average cost per person is between £20-£30.

We stopped by for a drink before heading to a nearby restaurant and decided to sit outside. Unfortunately, the area was quite messy with scattered rubbish and dirty tables. The barman seemed unconcerned about the cleanliness, as he focused on picking up glasses. When I mentioned the dirt on my glass, he simply transferred the drink to another glass, bringing the dust along with it. It was obvious that the glasses had been sitting for a while and were not properly cleaned. Overall, the place appeared unkempt and neglected. I will not be returning.

"The place seems unprofessionally run. The staff all look like they could do with a bath. No overalls are worn and their clothes are all of the type that many would wear to lounge around the house in . Several have longer hair and beards but don’t wear any kitchen p.p.e. The decor is shabby and I wondered what kind of hygiene rating they would have. Although not busy, the staff seemed to be disorganised, falling over eachother and lacking in training. They seemed to handle the food in an inexperienced, clumsy fashion. The only tool I saw being used was a pizza peel for taking the pizza in and out of the oven. On all other occasions the food was handled. I didn’t notice any hand washing or alcohol gel in evidence. The menu is quite limited and uninspiring. 2 of the 6 pizza choices include chicken which Italians would argue is definite no no! All pizzas are reheated to order which eliminates the possibility of customisation. I don’t believe the restaurant would stand out in many European countries, as pizza in general is of a much higher standard than that in the UK. In spite of the above, The basic pizza is excellent in taste (even though it is all re-heated). And for this reason it is worth a visit. Compared to other uk pizza restaurants which are typically serving absolute garbage, the food is way out in front. If you can tolerate the negatives I’m sure you won’t be disappointed with the pizza. However with a bit of effort, this place could be transformed into something truly amazing."
