"The visit started off well. The guy who seated us, seemingly the manager, was great. The people skills were there and he helped my colleague with their gluten-free options with a thorough run through of the menu. Very happy, and the menu looks good. Our server arrived, and when asked ‘what size’ the cokes on draft are, he proceeds to estimate the size of the glass with his hands (which well exceeds even a Johnny Depp mega pint). On arrival, it turns out the size was what seems like 330ml, and there was a mix-up with our cokes/diet cokes which the server had to sort, before returning to our tables with two wet glasses, which left our table in a state as it was on a slight slope. Ok, no bother, it’s not a big deal. The wait for the food was not long, especially since we were glad the food seemed home-cooked, according to the menu. Considering we paid £11.50 each for our meals, we were very happy with that! Until it arrived. It is, no joke, the saddest plate I have ever seen. We were so shocked, that we were just staring at our plates for a minute… … only to realise that we had not been given cutlery, and no server was around. For a long while. Finally, we got up and walked over to a station and grabbed it ourselves. Paying up was just a painful experience, when we asked for two itemised receipts. We got two copies, and I had to explain that they need to be split in half so we can claim it back. Off he went again, a second time. For a long while. Again. I work in Michelin dining, and I always hesitate leaving reviews of substandard visits. It’s unnecessary, and especially when you get what you pay for. This, however, was sadly just a waste of money, as we left wishing we had just gone Spoons. Sorry guys, better luck next time!"

I have dined at this restaurant twice now and it has quickly become one of my favorite places to eat in the area. I highly recommend it for its excellent service and delicious food.

Have not been to Gloucester for years and never eaten at this restaurant before. We both enjoyed our beef skewers and the chocolate fondant dessert was delicious; but what struck us was how friendly the staff were.

Been to this establishment a few times and keep coming back every time we visit Gloucester Quays. Great food at value for money prices at a lovely setting by the water. Staff are always attentive and cannot do enough for the customer. See you again Coal Kitchen.

We did not make a reservation and it was a bustling Friday evening, but the manager went out of their way to find us a table. The ambiance was great and our waitress was incredibly helpful and kind. We had a delicious meal and felt welcomed and valued as customers. View menu

We went here twice over the weekend and absolutely loved it! Lovely service, great drinks, tasty snacks hummus and sweet potato fries) and lush location. Both times we had our dog with us, and he was welcomed and treated as fabulously as we were. Thank you very much

The service was good: the waitress was very kind and nice. The food was terrible. Very low quality meat. We took tacos and were not fresh at all… the meat from the burgers was over cooked and very poor quality. My husband took a steak and asked for rare but came over cooked and they kindly change it but was all chewy and very bad quality. Same for the taste of old oil on the fries…

Our party of 7 had a fabulous experience at this restaurant. The service was great and the food was delicious. The manager even managed to seat us 30 minutes before our reservation on a busy weekend. We enjoyed some amazing festive cocktails and were pleasantly surprised to find out that Prosecco was available by the large bottle, despite not being on the drinks menu. The food was hot and tasty, and we will definitely be returning in the future. View menu

We visited Saturday early afternoon but it wasn't very busy. Unfortunately we were seated next to a group enjoying countless drinks (bottomless brunch? and they were loud and, as the drink flowed so did the language! When there are lots of empty tables, try to keep the noisy ones separate! The food was nice but not quite to the same standard as our previous visits. The skewers used to hang and have a greater variety on them. We also had to wait a long time for our desserts.

Booked Coal Kitchen for my birthday meal. On arriving had a very warm friendly welcome by our waitress, who couldn't do enough for us. When she realised it was my birthday she presented me with a glass of fizz. which was very thoughtful of her . Once our order was taken, drinks came fairly quick and the food not long after. We found the standard of food was very good with hot chips and good portion sizes . All 6 of us enjoyed our visit to Coal Kitchen and would be only to happy to visit again when in Gloucester

"The Cavern in Gloucester is one of a kind. To a lot of people just passing by it is a very pleasant social cafe with reasonably priced food and non-alcoholic drink. The reality is that The Cavern is so much more than that. This is a place that is non-judgemental and focuses on inclusion for everyone. It has a lot of regular attendees including myself, many of which have mental health issues and/or some form of disability. The staff here (who are absolutely amazing) have a varied and wide understanding of mental health and what makes this place unique is that anyone can attend in the evening to talk to a member of staff about any issues in an informal and discrete way. Whilst staff are available anytime during the day there is a designated support area in the evenings which anyone can make use of. There are also various activities which The Cavern put on including an informal karaoke on a Sunday evening with mixed abilities of singers taking part. You don 't have to be a good singer as you will not be judged, it 's all about taking part. The Cavern has had a couple of bad reviews where it has been pointed out that there has been drug use and anti-social behaviour. Some of which may be true, however please bear in mind that some people who attend The Cavern may have mental health issues and conditions that may not be physically visible. The Cavern does not judge and is open to everyone. If The Cavern wasn 't so inclusive, then where would these people go? On the streets being Antisocial ? Getting involved in criminal activity? The safe space that The Cavern provides encourages people to attend and seek advice and support from a friendly staff team as well as other regular attendees who feel that The Cavern has a real family feel to it. Drug use is strictly prohibited and is challenged immediately. Whilst I accept that The Cavern may not run smoothly 100% of the time, I also know that the staff do everything that they can to support everyone who needs it. They are all very approachable and have the respect of people who feel able to open up to them about their problems and struggles. The Cavern is a safe space for everyone and if it was to ever close then Gloucester would lose a very valuable asset to the city."
