"My daughter and I visited this ancient mountain village, Soglio, on a hot summer day in August. (I had visited this lovely place several times before, but in the month of June, and eaten at the same restaurant). On this day,we ate under a vine-covered arbour against the backcloth of the Bregell Mountains andoverlooking the Bregaglia Valley. My daughter chose "Spaghett Tomaten" (13.50 Chf.) and, as usual, I was tempted by Bratwurst Roesti (18. 00 Chf) we each had huge salad costing only 9.50 Chf - so not an expensive meal, at such a lovely place,on such a day! As generally found, the waitresses were pleasant and helpful, the food was good and helpings generous. (The Italian influence was present in the particularly tasty spaghetti, or so I understand). We drank only water with the mealfollowed by the predictable cappuccino but were too full to contemplate having a dessert. The toilets, which, at this "Albergo" are inside the main building and downstairs, are quite spacious and clean. We dropped by the Tourist Information office where there were many leaflets providing information on Soglio and the surrounding area and also an interesting display of local handiwork, which was for sale, i.e. woodwork, pottery, stonework, sewing and knitwear. Later, on another trip, we were informed by a Swiss lady that Soglio is a particularlyrevered spot and its survival is supported by the Swiss government. With its very narrow alley-ways and overhanging upper storeys Soglio inspired the imagination to compare it with Tudor England. The communal washing "well" was also a point of interest, but I think is rarely used now.Everywhere flowers bedecked the houses and buildings - this is truly a lovely spotand if one has time, a short hike on the mountainside can, in June, at least, bring one to fields of flowers with a visiting butterflies and the occasional basking lizard."
