"I have been to The Crown many times previously and had great experiences however on my most recent visit I was appalled by the customer service or lack thereof. I arrived with my mother and two year old daughter at 11:50am and asked if they were serving food I was told the kitchen opened at 12pm. There were about 8 members of staff all standing around chatting some eating their lunch but not one of them doing anything that remotely resembled working or customer service. We sat at the table for 20 minutes without anyone coming over to even ask about drinks. Just before 12 I enquired again about food and whether we could get some menus but was told these were still being printed. 10 minutes passed and I enquired again this time a member of staff came over with three kids menus. 12:15 and no one had come over to take a drinks order let alone food. The staff were completely disinterested and just huddled around laughing and ignoring any customers. We got up and walked out having spent 30 minutes being ignored. As I left, I said to a member of staff how disappointed I was by the experience and she shrugged her shoulders and walked off. Truly bizarre and a very far cry from anything I’ve ever previously experienced here."

Excellent dinner! The staff were attentive but not too present and the food was delicious. The pub is very welcoming to children too one of our favourite places to come!

We waited an hour for food. The food was great when it arrived but we had small children with us who were getting agitated by the long wait. There were also complications with the card machine when paying the bill which resulted in another fairly long wait whilst the issue was sorted by the manager.

We had a great meal marred only by the fact that two of the three desserts we ordered, were stone cold, one of them being the Christmas Pudding that felt as if it had just been taken out of the fridge. But everything else was great, and the staff were particularly friendly and efficient. We will be back.

Met a friend for a Christmas meal treat. Both of us had a roast beef dinner. What we had for £23 wasn’t great. 2 small slices of beef, carrot mash, couple of parsnips, 3 roast potatoes, 1 small stuffing ball and gravy. You can get a better roast dinner for less than this locally. The Crown is not what it used to be. Won’t be going back.

We took our adult learning disabled daughter there for an early evening meal. We do this about once a month. The waiting staff are always welcoming and many know our daughter’s name. Her fish and chips is always good. I had a superb sea bream with a delicious sauce on a bed of potatoes and chard. Gorgeous. My husband found the special belly of pork very good. His pint of Youngs was also pronounced very good. A very good experience as always.

It’s a real shame to give this pub a poor review as we have enjoyed it for so many years. Despite recent refurbishment the food, kitchen and management have not improved. Owned by Youngs and seems the chain pub food has taken it over. One hour after ordering we were told one item ran out so had to wait another 30 mins for mains while large table near us was served! The waiting and bar staff are all very young and doing their best no sign of proper management and obviously problems in the kitchen, all we could hear around us is “sorry we have run out of this run out of that”! Won’t be going back anytime soon!

We were disappointed to find that the table we had booked was actually in the pub and not in the restaurant as we had thought. We were told that we should have specified that we wanted the restaurant when we booked and that they had no tables despite us seeing that the restaurant was not full throughout the evening. The staff were friendly and helpful but not very knowledgeable about the menu items but did try to go and find answers to our queries (eg is the fish cooked whole or a fillet? . The food was good but it is expensive for a pub. The wine and cocktails are also expensive especially as they did not have any Aperol and the margaritas were quite small with no salt on the glass rim.

Lovely setting and always a good atmosphere. We sat down at around 8 and even though the staff and kitchen were kind enough to offer us the Christmas menu we didn’t start our meal til around 9 and we were already a few Prosecco and Chocolate Blocks in. The food was enjoyed and everyone had a great evening but we didn’t appreciate after having just finished our dinner that they were taking last orders at the bar and we were being encouraged to leave. It’s fine to close when there’s no one drinking but if you have people still eating and drinking please do not rush them out the door. The management must accommodate parties when service is late regardless of the rules they set themselves. The r...

"Obon: a petit Japanese udon restaurant that supplies a sense of Japan that cannot be found anywhere else in the whole of the Uk. (5 stars) Location: Obon is located close to the heart of Kingston but the road it’s on is considerably quieter. You must make sure to have a basic knowledge of Kingston in order to find an area to park and to also make sure you leave yourself enough time, taking the unpredictability of the traffic into acount. Even on a week day there can be traffic jams which can put a halt to your plans and due to the small amount of customers Obon can take its important that you not only book but make sure that you arrive at the agreed booking time. With this being said the staff are all lovely so if you are running late, a quick call is all that is required to just give Obon a chance to understand your position. The food: The array of exquisitely prepared sashimi will be sure to create the sensation that you are in a top Japanese restaurant in japan and the flavour of the fish does not fail to match expectations, which will be very high after just one glance at your meal. The fish is delicately seasoned and practically melts on your tongue, this causes a lovely sensation and is genuinely the finest sushi I have tasted in the uk and even matches a lot of the top restaurants in japan. On top of just the traditional types of sushi, which to many is maki rolls Obon also offers many other delicious options such as soft shell crab and even Unagi don, which I must highly recommend due to it consistently being the highlight of my meal. For those of you that were interested in the quality of the basic Japanese dishes such as miso soup or edamame they do not fail to leave you in grand anticipation for what is to come for they are, simply speaking, incredibly good. The miso, in my opinion, is truly remarkable and creates a lasting feeling of warmth throughout your entire body, on top of that it is far superior to other miso’s that I have tasted in all other areas of the world. Overall the quality of the food is something you would expect from a world famous Michelin star restaurant and if you want Japanese food it’s the only place I can recommend. The Restaurant: The restaurant itself is small but authentic in nature and because it only has a enough tables to host around 20 people at the most, the service is exceptionally good and your food is always out quickly so you will not be left hungry for very long. The staff are kind and friendly. And it’s always an enjoyable experience being waves goodbye as you leave the restaurant. You’re also able to watch as they prepare the food, which for some could be entertaining. There are Japanese photos scattered around the room and this further creates an authentic feel. The atmosphere is not lively but it is a restaurant and not a bar so is an ideal location if you are wanting high quality food. With this being said it is still a great place to go with friends and I consistently am able to have a great time no matter the occasion. Price: Obviously, the price of the food is always an important topic to come to and despite the cost of the sushi being slightly higher than you may expect from a small restaurant in Kingston, I would have to say that for the quality of the food it is ultimately a bargain. For three people, you would be spending around £100 so it isn’t cheap but you can go for cheaper types of food such as udon, which is still amazing quality and won’t set you back as much money. Overall: Obon is still my favourite restaurant in the whole of the Uk and is perfect for a special occasion but it isn’t the sort of place you’d go for a casual night out. The food is beyond incredible and thus they can cater for both children and adults by meeting every bodies needs. For anybody that enjoys sushi, I would urge you to give it a go, you won’t regret it"
