"I have visited this pub once before, on the recommendation of a work colleague, and it was a memorable experience. So it was a no-brainer that when I was next in the area I would seek to revisit this venue. That opportunity arose when another...colleague and I finished exhibiting at an event recently at the nearby Olympia exhibition centre. Though this pub is a couple of blocks away from Olympia, it proved to be worth the trek, and was a welcome alternative to our usual watering hole, The Beaconsfield, which is just opposite Olympia (see my separate review on that). The first really positive and noteworthy delight was being offered menus when we ordered our drinks at the bar. This was as good an example of upselling as you are ever likely to see. As a former hospitality manager, I know it works, and in this case it was a welcome invitation that encouraged us to stay for dinner. I was pretty glad we did. The young man who took our order was unusually helpful and efficient. The only snag was that he informed us that the kitchen didn't open until 6pm this being 5.40pm on a Saturday evening. I did think that a bit odd, though waiting 20 minutes wouldn't have been an issue. Strangely, we didn't have to wait as the food arrived fairly promptly. If the chef made an exception in this case, then I'm very grateful. If not, then it was probably not worth mentioning the opening times. Luckily, the food was nothing short of excellent. Both my colleague and I were pretty much in agreement, and we were impressed by the choice, the quality and the presentation. The menu has a definite Thai influence, which was interestingly mixed with some standard pub favourites (see pictures), so there really was something for everyone. I started with the smoked salmon. I don't know what ebiko shrimp roe' or ponzu mayo' is, but I can tell you it was extremely good, and an interesting variation on this good old familiar starter (see picture). My colleague's chicken satay starter was also beautifully presented rather awkwardly served on a chopping board but I'm told it too was very good indeed (see picture). Mains were cod chips and pad thai with king prawns. Again, top notch (see pictures). This pub has a very welcoming and homely atmosphere (see pictures) and appears to be a popular meeting place for friends and for families, with the restaurant operation being perhaps what they do best. With the bill coming in at £45 for two, not including drinks, that is pretty good value for the quality of the fare. Watch out for the now habitual 10% discretionary' service charge. For this reason, don't add your drinks from the bar onto your tab, as you'll end up paying 10% on those too. Other than that this is a great little place and a valuable discovery for locals and tourists alike and I for one can't wait to return."

the food was good; service could be a bit friendly, but was at the end good. it's a nice restaurant if you're looking for something light.

We stayed here one night prior to starting a tour of Europe. The room was large and well appointed. The breakfast was outstanding. Very friendly staff.

Sixth-feira, 6 hours, late stay, and see you Czech pubs and bars of pessoas drinking something before flying home, go jantar, etc this bar stava mesmo ao lado da nossa varanda da cidade e decided to enter for um gin. perhaps influenced by all or ritual that e observed em portugal emvolv do gin e da maneira que é served, eu fiquei um pouco desapontado com o vidro nu que me apresentou. barely a maça de gim tinha o direito a um ramo de alecrim, to fugir para a banalidade do colarinho de limão. de qualquer forma, eu conhecia bem o refresco da tarde!

I'm right around the corner from where I live, tend to go there quite often when in a cappuccino or afternoon tee. while I can agree that it is not an ideal place for outside seats in the week, the exterior are perfect for a Sunday morning (day when the Dutch road is less chaotic and quieter). what I love most is the atmosphere surrounded by many bottle candles, the various types of seating available (from wooden chairs to hockern, hammocks and more) the decorative note created with books and flowers as well as many other things. if they are looking for a place that is independent, but similar to bill’s or a friend...read more

in the pub there is a nice, friendly atmosphere. from the outside they expect that the decor is quite old-fashioned, but it is actually quite quirky inside and different things tend to catch their eye while relaxing in the bar. I was at the weekend and it was always quite busy, but not so busy that they can't be served. every time I look, there was a series of age groups and all kinds of different people to enjoy a pretty drink. they have a good weeping list that is not too expensive, so it is perfect when they catch up with a friend after a catch up. I have never tried to eat that, but it always looks and smells amazing when they cut through the restaurant section. the staff...read more

beer ok, but not as beautiful as around the corner with the same beer, atlantic ipa service without smiles, in which did not have a word! food terrible if they may eat their cooked the day before, then naked in a...microwave until the heat of the sun as dry as the sawara then they are in luck, they come in! I had the färger mash with jus (a name for thin gravity and a warning that they only have a damper full of it). the jus, as mentioned, was delicious, but I would have with twice the amount of mashing, again was economical, but ok. the sausages, though delicious (and very peppery, which was good for me, but can surprise others) in others were dry and hard. a safe sign for something that is...
