"2 x couples with 3 dogs in total. Decided on a single night stay between Christmas and New Year and we were no disappointed. We have previously visited The Craven Arms as we stay in Settle a few times during the year. We arrived at lunch time on Wednesday had lunch (a hot sandwich and bowl of chunky chips) went out for the day and back for tea. Various meals had in the party. Turned in late and a very comfy bed and pillows awaited us. Morning breakfast with lots of choice from buffet to hot selection. This was a very welcomed break and we can not fault any part of the stay. All areas very clean and owners and all staff very welcoming, friendly and offered good services. Definitely worth a return visit at some point. Rooms: We had rooms 7 and 8. both spacious, clean, warm and both having a very comfy bed. One viewed out the front one out the back. Fully equipped shower room."

"Worst Indian I have ever had. We ordered poppadoms to start (got one each priced at £5) ordered an onion Bhaji to start he asked if I wanted it with my main but I said no as a starter but it still arrived with the main course. The jalfrezi was bland, not spicy. No chillis as you would usually find in a jalfrezi. Asked for a Diet Coke with my meal it never arrived so a good job it wasn’t spicy as I ate my meal with no drink. My partner got the buffet which was stone cold. The waiters response was people keep leaving the kids open . Is this not a health and safety issue? He ordered a tikka massala from the menu instead which arrived with about 3 pieces of chicken in. Told waiter the meal was rubbish but he couldn’t care less. Avoid at all costs"

"My wife and I had a few days in Settle to trek some of the surrounding walks and sites. We ate in this cafe on the first day, whilst also perusing the shop downstairs; loved it and went back everyday after.I liked the pulled pork sandwich which fell apart in my mouth as well as the fresh made scones with home made jam.My wife's favourite dish was avocado on sourdough toast with herb tomatoes.....and of course she added a side of crispy bacon.All in all everything on the menu looked great and the owner said that they make changes to the menu seasonally to give the customer seasonal variety."

"Very slow service as the owner/chef/waiter (yep he does everything! takes everyone's drinks order, then everyone's food order. We didn't order starters so had to wait whilst everyone ate their starters. Portion size was really good but the base was think, and the taste of pizza not that great. Matteo and his other waiters were very friendly so can't fault that. Finally, it is a very tiny place and cramped with tables so it you get claustrophobic then pls avoid."

"Great evening spent at Matteo's when on a short trip to the Dales from London. Matteo's is an unsuspecting little restaurant, nestled right in the heart of Settle's market square. Just walking through, you get the whif of fresh pizza and pasta to invite you in. The restaurant is owned, run and all the food cooked by Matteo. He is welcoming and says welcome to any and all that come into his restaurant. He works pretty tirelessly on his own in the kitchen to cook everything fresh on the spot. With a small team of only himself and one waitress the night we went, we did not go expecting rapid service. Instead we went to enjoy some wine, some conversation and some really good freshly cooked Italian food. The portions are massive, and it is incredibly under priced for what you get to the point that I told Matteo to put his prices up. We had a bottle of wine, two large pizzas Garlic bread for just about £20 a head...... If you want fast food, there is a chippy down the road. If you want good food and an intimate dining experience then Matteos is the place to go. When we visit again, we will make sure we have an evening to come back. Thanks for a great night."
