"After hearing about the rave reviews for the Duke William in Askham, my partner and I decided to book in for Sunday lunch, and we were blown away. We were greeted warmly by the bartender and given an even warmer welcome by Sara, a bubbly and friendly Italian who recently took over the pub with her partner, the chef. The modern yet cozy décor of the place instantly put us at ease. We had a tough time deciding whether to dine in the beautiful restaurant or the cozy bar area, but the inviting open fire in the bar won us over. The menu, while not extensive, had something for everyone. Everything we tried was freshly made to order, with a mix of Italian and English dishes with an Italian twist. Our starter of spicy prawns on a bed of cauliflower was a surprising delight, and my roast pork with herbs was perfectly cooked and generously portioned. My husband's seafood pasta was a hit as well, with abundant amounts of prawns, squid, and salmon. Despite being too full for dessert, Sara treated us to a complimentary Limoncello. The Italian influence in this English pub is a welcome change from the norm. The service, ambiance, and food all surpassed our expectations, earning a perfect 10/10 from us. Thank you, Sara - we'll definitely be back soon! x"

The best pub we've been to in a long time! The food was better than most restaurants and the service was second to none. They went above and beyond to make us feel welcome. Thank you, we will be back!

We visited The Duke William after trying to find somewhere closer to Retford. This was worth the short drive. The food was really good and the team couldn't do enough for us even asking which shape pasta we would prefer! We really enjoyed it, massive portions we were too full for dessert. 100% recommend.

Stopped here for lunch on a drive from Northumberland to Suffolk. They had good COVID measures throughout. The food was good, I had the burger which was delicious and my husband had the fish pie. There was a good selection to choose from as well as the Sunday Lunch roast options. They had a very clever high chair for our son which allowed him to sit at the table.

The owners of this pub used to work at the Sun Inn, not to be confused with the Old Sun, in Retford. They are truly missed. Even though it's a ten minute drive to Arkham for us, it's well worth it. The food is delicious, the service is top-notch, and the atmosphere is very pleasant. We can't wait to go back in the winter and hopefully enjoy the real fires burning. This is definitely our favorite place to eat.

Fourth time here since new Italian owners took over. Visited New Years Eve for an early dinner before the celebrations began. Once again we enjoyed stunningly authentic Italian food. The bruschetta was the best we’d had outside of Italy and the homemade pasta was delicious. The accompanying Montepulciano Abruzzo red wine was the perfect accompaniment to the food. The service and attention from Sara and Sam was spot on- warm, friendly and efficient. I can’t recommend the Duke highly enough. Suffice to state that we will be back.......and soon!

Hubby and I have just returned from a wonderful lunch at this beautiful old village pub. We were made so welcome and loved the old beams ,cosy atmosphere as well as the really good food. Started with homemade soup to die for, Chowder for hubby, Tomato for me with lovely warm crusty rolls and butter. Mushroom Tagliatelli with a colourful side salad ,Liver and bacon with creamy mash. Followed by a velvet smooth vanilla pannacotta and rhubarb.Washed down with a super bottle of Merlot , what could be nicer! Many thanks to the chef and Glen who looked after us ,You can be sure we will be back soon! Beautiful old place a real find!

First visit and will be back. Friendly service and good food. Belly pork bao buns to start were very tasty probably the best starter I’ve had for a very long time. For main course I had the pie with chips and mushy peas, the pie pastry was slightly dry however was filled to the brim with tender tasty meat. Nice homemade chips and well seasoned, mushy peas slightly disappointing tasted as they were from a tin. The stuffed chicken also looked nice and very well presented. The birra moretti was a good pint, however £3 for a small Diet Coke very pricey in my opinion. All in all great little village pub on the out skirts of retford, will be back soon!

I have visited this restaurant several times in the evening, but today was the first time I went for Sunday lunch. I was impressed by the complimentary pizza slices with bolognese that we received while waiting. The breaded shrimp and bruschetta were delicious, especially the broccoli and lemon sauce that came with the shrimp. The lasagne was fantastic, but the Italian-style roast pork was a true triumph. Served in a large bowl, the tender slices of pork were accompanied by rosemary on a bed of courgette, carrot, and onion, along with five roast potatoes and a rich meaty gravy with plenty of olive oil. Even though I don't usually like spinach or broccoli, we both agreed that the spinach and...
