"Very surreal, we had heard the hype, with someone saying it’s the most popular restaurant in Essex right now, so we were eager to give it ago. Booked through the new iPhone app which was very easy. We booked for a Friday night, at what would have been a popular dining time. On arrival, it’s a bit in the middle of no where, but that no a problem, easy parking. The outside looks pretty smart with the big Dusk sign all lit up. We were met at the door by two doormen/bouncers both extremely friendly. We then walked through to the receiving desk and bought up our reservation, before a very over keen waitress dressed in night club attire whisked is to our seat, on walking to the searing area I was shocked that there were only 3 other tables occupied out of maybe 50-60 tables! It looked so strange and the fake atmosphere was so apparent! The place was teaming with staff and they outnumbered dinners 2-1! We sat down and was immediately offered a chip and dips selection. We then looked at the drinks menu.. now before I go on, yes I saw the notice saying ‘bring your own alcohol’, I have been to other places like this and they still have sold some kind of alcohol. Not this place, it a sniff of it bar 0% mock ups. What on earth are they doing. The waitress was almost proud of the fact there was no booze. But believe me this place needs to sort that and fast as before you read on, they are going to need it. So after ordering a couple of cokes we peruses the menu. All seemed fine and the food that was on offer sounded promising. I ordered a lobster starter and my partner ordered some kebab thingy. When my starter arrived it was accompanied by a glass with co2 tablets creating an atmospheric smoke. The waiter then informed me that it wasn’t edible so don’t pour it on my starter. No sh@t Sherlock. The starter had foam added to the top lots of chopped veg and the lobster had quite a few chewy bits mixed in. Taste- bang average. It was a £14 starter. Not a great start."

Rude and unprofessional staff. Intimidating experience. Would avoid!

The restaurant has amazing staff, great food, excellent service, wonderful atmosphere, and reasonable prices! I highly recommend it.

The staff were very friendly and helpful, however the heating was faulty and i felt the food was over priced and slightly pretentious. View menu

We were the only customers in the restaurant! It seems that the lack of alcohol may be the reason. However, the food was beautifully presented and delicious.

Still early days but the new concept of no alcohol being provided at a venue will be hard to maintain, certainly for my group of friends. Yes you can take your own which works out cheaper but its an inconvenience. Its an interesting menu and well presented but carting a bag of wine and beers on a Saturday night out doesn't appeal to me, sorry.

I was surprised that my reservation was confirmed because we were the only three people there. The music was too loud considering the small number of patrons. The food was not worth the high prices they were charging. There are better options available elsewhere that offer better value for money. Without any special deals or promotions, this place seems to only attract young wealthy couples on weekends. View menu

The whole atmosphere and surroundings is nice in general. The only issue I had was that they did not serve alcohol. You had to go round the corner to shop and purchase your own alcohol which you could bring in. They had a variety of alcohol-free drinks which wasn't helpful at all. Also, the food was mediocre and did not have that much taste. The service was lovely. This place is good for non-drinkers, shisha lovers and those who do not like spicy food. In this country, it is a norm to serve alcohol or at least have the option to buy alcohol. There were customers next to us who complained about the same thing.

Apart from the service, everything else was quite terrible. Me and wife had chops for starters and prawn toast. The sauce on the toast was horrible! The sesame toast are better at chinese take aways. It just dis not taste right. Then came the mains after about an hour after starter, such a long wait! the chow mein my wife got was horrible! The noodles seemed as if it was instant noodles, the chicken was weirdly powdery and there was a lack of taste. My butter chicken luckily was very good, i did order naan on the side but that came after i had finished the curry so i told them i did not want it. Another added note the coke i ordered was not coca cola, it was definitely some cheap version of...

"We used to go to Whittaker's every weekend when visiting Brentwood, and used to recommend it ,it was always expensive, but it was good food and good service, but for the last few months it is going down hill fast! As soon as you go in now ,and...eventually noticed,we are told it will be ,or minutes wait for food,at this point many customers leave. This has happened every time we visit,so we ordered coffee, when we would have ordered food for four people, well we waited, and waited, for a coffee ,after twenty minutes I went up to the kitchen, and was told it's coming, where from Brazil!!!!!! And then nothing! Caught a waitresses eye and asked again, then we got it,and then told if we were not eating could we be quicker as there were people waiting!!!!! Anyone sitting down was told it was a long wait,so most left! That's money walking out the door! And they didn't seem to care! We discovered the reason for this terrible service,a buy came in with a massive deliveroo bag and left after ten minutes with a massive bag of food, they are now doing delivery and making the deliveroo a priority !!!!! They might think they are making a good living out of this, but the people actually there are money too! And paying extra for the privelidge of eating in. It cost more to eat i than take out! And the last time we were there, they lost our custom,so that was four,we saw another three leave,a other group of four,a couple, and that's customers ,and the as thing was no one from Whittaker's asked the people why they were going,or attempt to sort the problem out. We were sitting by the door and as it opened other customers were calling out don't bother again no staff were Interested. This cafe is packed in , more and more tables, with no room to get up or down from your table without backing Into other people, and nearly sitting on their laps. Not going back ,now they are doing deliveroo, actual customers who want to eat,are getting a very poor service. They have lost our custom for good,"
