"We were walking around Surbiton the other day and decided to go in. Note: the name on the windows was “Le Café du Vin but it is the same place from what I can see.We didn 't check online first. We were visiting the area and just walked in.We were lured in because of the name on the windows “Le Café du Vin and we wanted to get something French. (I’m French so I fancied a bit of Home food for a change … Only the whole Menu was Italian, with a bit of Spanish thrown in ! Not one thing on the Menu was French. At all. Maybe the toasts and jam? There were no pastries left when we arrived.Don’t get me wrong: I love Italian food and Spanish food (I’m half Spanish after all but why advertise this as being a French place and put a French name on the door when there is nothing French about it…aside from the wines on sale, maybe? I didn 't really look at them. Even so, one would expect that if the wines were French, so would be the food.. Nope. Even the jars of foods (olives etc.. on the shelves looked mostly Italian.I don 't get it. In South East France (Provence-Côte D’Azur there are also plenty of Mediterranean dishes with olives, olive oil, tomatoes, peppers, fish etc. such as Pissaladière (Type of Pizza without a tomato base : only onions and anchovies , Pan Bagnat (bread roll filled with Salade Niçoise , Pistou (similar to Italian Pesto soup, Bouillabesse, Ratatouille etc.. . This means they could still advertise the place as being French and serve Mediterranean food if that’s what they want to do. France is a big country with very different cuisines depending on where you go. It’s not all butter, cream and beef bourguignon...Food itself was OK/Average. I wasn 't in the best of moods so I went for something simple: eggs on toast. Nothing to write home about but OK. We were disappointed because the menu was not what we expected to find and we didn’t want to drive park somewhere else again so we stayed put.Suggestion: What about renaming the place “CANTINA ITALIANA” and advertising it as an Italian type place which is what it is, kind of? At least there won’t be any confusion …"

Good coffee and sandwiches, but cake slices very small for nearly £4., and part of mine had broken off.

The atmosphere at this restaurant is wonderful and lively. The Spanish almonds and large olives are delicious. The sharing plates are tasty and the customer service is excellent. Findlay provides great entertainment and conversation.

Nice wine bar for a cosy evening. We went during a Saturday evening and the staff were extremely attentive and helpful. We're not big wine drinkers but the staff took time to listen to what we wanted and gave us a sample of their recommendations. Would visit again!

What a fantastic evening of pizza and music on Saturday night. Simon the owner has an ear for spotting musical talent and we listened to Josephine Shaw in awe whilst enjoying some lovely red wine and delicious pizza and salad. Different music on different Saturday nights so something for everyone. I highly recommend this local Surbiton venue.

So, this review is for Ex-Cellar's newly opened Kingston branch as I couldn't find a TripAdvisor site for it. It was a really chilled evening. The cafe/restaurant had a lovely relaxed vibe. We shared a pizza and tapas and they were spot on, fresh and really tasty and Grandma's treacle tart was superb. Go visit and support a really good local brand instead of all the chains.

I’ve been here once before and was looking forward to returning today, but the service was shocking! We were told off by a member if staff when we wanted to swap marmalade for jam “next time you need to order the jam, ok, as this will have to go in the bin now!” and it generally felt like the waitress serving us didn’t want to be there and was doing us a big favour. Later on, whilst paying, a lady next to me reached out to get a sweet from the bowl by the till and she was told “they’re only free if you tip” Unfortunately, although the food is good, we won’t be going back due to the service.

Came in with a friend and we sat outside for a chat with some cheese and wine.Ordering from the app seemed confusing?? I think the techno people need to change the app to make it much more clear. I became frustrated so came inside to order. The staff were absolutely lovely, gave us table service and were smiley, polite, patient with me and my friend even though we were confused about a few things on the menu they did everything they could to make our visit as easy as possible. We will definitely return! Keep up the great work guys and fantastic cheese.Maybe some labeling on the cheese would be awesome too on the menu it does not say what kind of cheese you will order. But it was all very nice...

"Obon: a petit Japanese udon restaurant that supplies a sense of Japan that cannot be found anywhere else in the whole of the Uk. (5 stars) Location: Obon is located close to the heart of Kingston but the road it’s on is considerably quieter. You must make sure to have a basic knowledge of Kingston in order to find an area to park and to also make sure you leave yourself enough time, taking the unpredictability of the traffic into acount. Even on a week day there can be traffic jams which can put a halt to your plans and due to the small amount of customers Obon can take its important that you not only book but make sure that you arrive at the agreed booking time. With this being said the staff are all lovely so if you are running late, a quick call is all that is required to just give Obon a chance to understand your position. The food: The array of exquisitely prepared sashimi will be sure to create the sensation that you are in a top Japanese restaurant in japan and the flavour of the fish does not fail to match expectations, which will be very high after just one glance at your meal. The fish is delicately seasoned and practically melts on your tongue, this causes a lovely sensation and is genuinely the finest sushi I have tasted in the uk and even matches a lot of the top restaurants in japan. On top of just the traditional types of sushi, which to many is maki rolls Obon also offers many other delicious options such as soft shell crab and even Unagi don, which I must highly recommend due to it consistently being the highlight of my meal. For those of you that were interested in the quality of the basic Japanese dishes such as miso soup or edamame they do not fail to leave you in grand anticipation for what is to come for they are, simply speaking, incredibly good. The miso, in my opinion, is truly remarkable and creates a lasting feeling of warmth throughout your entire body, on top of that it is far superior to other miso’s that I have tasted in all other areas of the world. Overall the quality of the food is something you would expect from a world famous Michelin star restaurant and if you want Japanese food it’s the only place I can recommend. The Restaurant: The restaurant itself is small but authentic in nature and because it only has a enough tables to host around 20 people at the most, the service is exceptionally good and your food is always out quickly so you will not be left hungry for very long. The staff are kind and friendly. And it’s always an enjoyable experience being waves goodbye as you leave the restaurant. You’re also able to watch as they prepare the food, which for some could be entertaining. There are Japanese photos scattered around the room and this further creates an authentic feel. The atmosphere is not lively but it is a restaurant and not a bar so is an ideal location if you are wanting high quality food. With this being said it is still a great place to go with friends and I consistently am able to have a great time no matter the occasion. Price: Obviously, the price of the food is always an important topic to come to and despite the cost of the sushi being slightly higher than you may expect from a small restaurant in Kingston, I would have to say that for the quality of the food it is ultimately a bargain. For three people, you would be spending around £100 so it isn’t cheap but you can go for cheaper types of food such as udon, which is still amazing quality and won’t set you back as much money. Overall: Obon is still my favourite restaurant in the whole of the Uk and is perfect for a special occasion but it isn’t the sort of place you’d go for a casual night out. The food is beyond incredible and thus they can cater for both children and adults by meeting every bodies needs. For anybody that enjoys sushi, I would urge you to give it a go, you won’t regret it"
