""Beisl" being the Austrian term for Kneipe or Pub, we were curious what "Fischbeisl" would be like - residing in the fish market area with its distinctive air full of maritime scents. Luckily, we had reserved a table in the smallish one-room restaurant with open kitchen and were seated by the floorlength windows looking out onto the street. "Beisl"-atmosphere immediately appeared when we were served a simple but quaffable Grüner Veltliner. My choice of Pannfisch turned out to be a large portion of freshly fried fish with a good helping of delicious mustard sauce and good fried potatos on the side. I had my partner's mixed salad because he was too busy with his herring fillets to notice. Great salad! Next time I'll try one (or two) of the appetizers because the main courses are huge and I'd prefer a bit more variety on my plate. Service was fantastic."

We only had some Backfischbroetchen with Remoulade. Great quality battered fish, crispy bun and a salad leaf - awesome! Highly recommended! The seated dinner options looked great too. View menu

There are many places on the famous Landungsbrucken, but if walk a little bit far from the city centre along the riverside - you will find this fantastic place. Definately fish - it's an option to have a full dinner or just a snack (best receipt of the herring in Hamburg to my mind!)... goes well together with true Hamburger beer!

For low price, you will find an excelent kitchen in this restaurant. His owner, Mr. Volkmar Preis has been the most friendly, patient and councelor manager ever. He will give you his best suggestions from a very extense menu (available in lot of languajes) with options for all tastes. The place is simple, but nice and quiet and it has parking spaces if you are driving. We went 3 times during the week!

We had planned to eat somewhere else but ended up in this small restaurant. There is nothing fancy about it but it has a nice and relaxed atmosphere. Between the 4 of us two had fresh fried green herrings, one had a sole and one had moonfish. The moonfish came with boiled potatoes and a mango salsa. The fish was excellent. The other three dishes came with fried potatoes and a pile of bacon on top of the herring. For me personally it was too salty and too greasy. The guys were happy with their fried potatoes and didn’t share my concerns. A nice fresh garden salad was also served with each meal. Overall opinion: good meal but nothing spectacular. Good value for money though!
