"A real gem tucked down an alley off the high street. We have been several times for coffee and cakes there is a wide an interesting collection of drinks and other goodies including croissants, buns etc. The breakfast menu looks great with a creative offer and not the traditional offer of a fry up. Last night we went for another evening meal. This is real authentic Greek food cooked by the proprietor. We particularly loved the starters, so different from other so called greek restaurants . The wine list is interesting and all from Greece and realistically priced. The interior is comfortable and attractively designed. The chef husband and his wife who serves are professional and a,ways friendly."

"Charming pub with a fantastic atmosphere. There's a lively main bar and a quieter separate dining area, perfect for those seeking a more relaxed experience. The pub also features a generous garden for children and plenty of outdoor seating. I was pleasantly surprised by the extensive and diverse menu, which ranges from fish and chips to lamb's liver, with plenty of fish and seafood options. The fisherman's basket I tried was delicious and generously portioned, accompanied by crispy chips. The prices are reasonable as well. There's a large parking lot, but remember to enter your registration number at the bar to avoid a fine. Definitely worth a visit!"

"very pleased to find this place on the way to dungerness. the food is cooked to home that has a great change of vegan junk (in part to a bit of junk food, but not all the time we had the quiche that was beautiful and...sat in the garden that is fuller crumble. the entertainment was delivered by the habitual speering and staring eating out of the food that had been made for them. great place and the staff were also very friendly!"

"I have been coming to Alfriston for many, many years, as just live in nearby Brighton. We were so excited to learn that Alex Polizzi had totally renovated The Star. We booked to come here for my birthday on 4th March. We were disappointed that we were not able to dine in the main restaurant for our late lunch. We had to dine in the main pub area which although was pleasant, we were dressed smartly for the restaurant, so felt quite overdressed in the pub area. The lady who served us was very polite and friendly. We had a three course meal and each of us had a glass of Prosecco and a glass of Malbec. The food was delicious. I started with Sicilian tomato and basil Arancini and my partner opted for the tomato Gazpacho soup which quite frankly, could have fed a family of 4! I’ve never seen such a large portion of gazpacho in my life! It was far too much really.. I had to help him out. For the main, we both chose the chicken Milanese which was absolutely delicious and for dessert, we both chose the chocolate fondant with vanilla ice cream. All the lovely staff, including the chef came out to sing happy birthday to me with a candle in my dessert. : We then spent some time in front of the fire chatting with our coffee and then a glorious half an hour or so in the library reading the newspapers and looking at books which is usually just meant for residents, but it was very quiet on the day we went for our lunch so we were allowed entrance. One of the staff showed us the secret door in the library, too! : Everywhere is immaculately spotless, including the toilets which are equipped with lovely hand-wash and hand cream. There is an area equipped with Wellington boots and waterproof capes for inclement weather, and sun hats to put on in the beautiful courtyard for the spring and summer months …they’ve thought of everything! We did not stay at The Star, as we just live down the road in Brighton, so cannot comment on the rooms. This Hotel/Restaurant is high-end and I highly recommend this place for special occasions."

"This was our first visit to this restaurant, and it definitely won't be the last. It's a charming, historic place with rustic beams, uneven walls, and a genuine old-world layout. The staff are excellent at what they do; they engage with diners, share laughs, and create a warm atmosphere, which I really appreciate. The food is outstanding and not overly greasy. I ordered a jalfrezi, which was aromatic and spicy without the overwhelming heat of a vindaloo, and it was absolutely perfect. My guests enjoyed their meals as well, finishing everything they ordered, which is a testament to the quality. We felt more like family than just customers. A big thank you to everyone at Romney Spice!"
