"A little restaurant on a side street off the main drag, this is a superb German/Austrian restaurant with tasty local cuisine. The restaurant itself is typically understated but the staff accommodated us very well, providing us with English menus and speaking decent English, while putting up with my terrible attempts at speaking German. Unlike many reviews on here, we decided against the schnitzel - albeit looking great but enormous - my girlfriend and I had the goulash and we didn't regret it. Perfectly cooked beef with a deep, rich sauce and a dumpling the size of a small football. It was the best dish we ate in our three days in Berlin. The beer here was also very good and was different from what you got in the more touristy areas of Berlin. Somehow we made room for desert, and they are a treat. We chose the Kaiserschmarrn - shredded pancake strips with a serving of plums - and an apple layered cake dish with vanilla custard. Every mouthful was a joy. The service was fine, a bit slow in places, but the restaurant was full and was being run by just two staff who were very helpful, especially with our limited German language skills. They seemed genuinely surprised by a tip but it was well worth it for the quite brilliant food and ambience of this lovely German side street."
