gattavecchi is a hidden gem of montepulchiano! I take few blocks to foot from the main square, it takes them away from the tourist area call them and make them one.

very nice place, inside a cellar. excellent dishes: we took the pici with porcini mushrooms and a green pepper cut, both very good. absolutely try pecorino pudding: a real discovery for those who love cheesecake!

This review has sat in my saved drafts for a while but the restaurant deserves it's review. I ordered the steak, simple nothing special, but the Piccadilly was delicious as was the gluten free bread. Zappa vedrei yum patata delicimo!

I stayed with friends on December to visit the christmas babbo castle and its markers. the place is really beautiful, the dining room is located in the ancient refectory of the monastery. the cellars underground are very suggestive and the owner as the rest of the friendly and welcoming staff. we ate well and the price below what we expected. Stop.

Gattavecchi is conveniently situated near the perimeter of town near lot 8 and away from the major foot traffic. We started with a Salumi e Formaggi plate for two. It was delicious and enough food for four. Our pasta was nothing spectacular but not awful either (does bad pasta exist in Italy)? I recommend heading here to enjoy the beautiful view from the outside patio and for pre dinner appetizers and wine.

Gattavecchi is a hidden gem of Montepulchiano! I few blocks walk off main piazza it takes you away from the touristy dining area. Call ahead and make a reservation for outside, then enjoy an amazing view of the valley below ... the service is friendly and as is always true in Italy, an at your own pace event. They have many of the Italian classic dishes with various pasta (tagliatelle yum) and sauces (cinghiale wild boar) ... so many choices. Our favorite way to start is always the bruschetta for 2 .... trust me, even if you have 4 the dish for 2 is plenty to start with the table.
