"We recently dined here and were disappointed. At £120 for 6 courses and snacks I would expect Michelin quality in food and service) but that was sadly not the case. We were asked to arrive at 1900 for 1930 but were left sitting in the bar area with nothing more than a tiny bowl of nuts and olives until 1945 by which time we were very hungry. The first course was a soy soaked cauliflower. Interestingly we’d had a cauliflower curry for supper the previous evening so I was looking forward to the stunning difference between the two. This one was effectively in a thai green curry sauce and I didn’t enjoy it. The sweetness of the scallop in the next course was obliterated in a bitter marmite tasting sauce and the cod was a little dry and when I looked at the 2inch long block of cod all I could think was that it was costing me £20). The service was also very slow which I think was being caused by a blockage in the kitchen as opposed to a lack of skill by the waiters although we did have to chase our drinks more than once as we didn’t do the wine pairing but ordered by the glass. All in all it felt a bit sloppy when you would expect rigour from a restaurant with a michelin star. Maybe this is because the chef who earned the star Hrishikesh Desai has moved onto pastures new. Sadly it seems he has taken his star with him."

We first came here 12 years ago, and we’re delighted to have had an opportunity to return. The food blew our minds, easily the best tasting menu we have eaten. Our host, Tim, was knowledgeable, friendly and enhanced our experience with his charm and wit. We can’t wait to find an excuse to return

First time experience so I have nothing to compare it to. I wasn 't impressed. Tried the taster menu and there was only 2 courses that I enjoyed, same with my husband. Somehow I was expecting more 'taste ', more 'flavour '. Not something I would rush back to try again. Lounge area and restaurant are beautiful.

The restaurant did not meet our high expectations. The staff were excellent and knowledgeable, but the menu options were limited. Two members of our group do not like fish and this information was not taken into consideration when ordering. The food arrived lukewarm and while the langoustine starter was enjoyable, the cod main course was forgettable. The cheese selection was good, but overall we felt that we paid too much for the experience. On a positive note, the wine was affordable and the staff were friendly and attentive. View menu

We were staying at the Gilpin so booked into HRiSHi. We chose the 5 course menu. This consisted of nibbles, starter, main, dessert and coffee with two chocolates. The food was delightful, beautifully presented. The staff very friendly and efficient, though the wine waiter was slow in filling up our glasses so we did not ourselves, which we preferred to do anyway. Downsides We were told we were invited for drinks and nibbles at 7.45 for the 8.15 sitting. With other Michelin restaurants this means a glass of fizz and interesting quality nibbles. Here it meant you buy your own drinks at the bar and get a small plates of olives and nuts. Nothing special. The restaurant is in there rooms so there...

We are visiting from NYC and celebrated our 29th wedding anniversary at HRiSHi . After visiting friends, and several other Michelin rated restaurants in UK this trip , our expectations were high. The food, presentation and service well exceeded them! . For a very last minute booking due to several flight problems, we got a late reservation tonight. We had to deal with several flight and family issues upon arrival but everyone from our host to bartender made us feel more than welcome! From start to finish our meal was perfect. My husband had the soft shell crab for his first course and lobster/stone bass for entree. I had the quail to start and lamb as entree. Our meal was one of the best we’...

We went as couples to celebrate a couple of birthdays. It was a shame that it was in the evening so could not experience the views but the restaurant itself was lovely. We were led to the lounge where we had cocktails and choose our menu we decided on the tasting menu. After booking the restaurant, I had informed them of my dietary restrictions but that message hadn’t got through to the restaurant and I found it embarrassing to discuss this with the maitre d’hotel in front of the others as it was not my doo and the focus was on me and not them . After some discussion , my menu was sorted and the service was done without a hitch and without a fuss but it should have been sorted before I arriv... View menu

Unfortunately we were left a little disappointed with our dining experience. The Michelin restaurant now has a new name it also seems another new restaurant has opened at the hotel (knipe so potentially some chef/management/ menu changes are underfoot and they are finding their feet. We have dined at a few Michelin restaurants and for us this just wasn’t the quality we were looking forward to. You are told to arrive 30 mins before your reservation for welcome drinks nibbles but there are no drinks, you have to purchase your own. The tasting menu was only 6 courses snacks (i appreciate this sounds alot but it isn’t for a Michelin tasting menu. There was nothing overly creative on the menu and...

We went to Source at the Gilpin to try their tasting menu. Source is supposed to be a Michelin-starred restaurant. We had high expectations, especially since it had recently been taken over and this was the new chef's first Lake District menu. However, we were disappointed as the food did not meet Michelin standards. The tasting menu consisted mainly of fish, with duck and desserts in between. Unfortunately, the duck was poorly cooked and hard to cut, with unrendered fat. We left some of the meal, which was unexpected considering the reputation of the restaurant. The desserts and handmade chocolates were also disappointing, with the portion size of the chocolates being very small. Although t...
