"The food here was really good. Let down by the service. We had to ask for our drinks after the starter arrived, we had to ask for Toast with the pate the server didn't know if it came with it or not. Roast beef dinner was the best we have had for miles around though. We asked for dessert menus which we then had to ask for again after 15 minutes. We eventually ordered ten minutes or so later, and then decided to get the bill after 20 minutes when the desserts never arrived, we did get soup spoons though as apparently that's all they had. I imagine there were dessert spoons somewhere but it was probably easier to just give soup spoons as it saved them having to leave their chit chat to go and find them. There were a couple of efficient staff behind the bar but the floor staff, of which there were plenty just stood chatting and drinking by the coffee machine ignoring everything that was going on. Such a shame, especially as the food is really good. If you can't offer efficient table service then just adjust your offer so customers can order at the bar. Customers don't mind paying a fair price for good food if the service is good too. Its not hard. It seemed the place wasn't managed tonight maybe it was just a bad day but puts you off a revisit when this is already the second time we have had this experience."

I love the decor/refurb that they have done to this place.

Loved this place and service of the team. The menu choice was good. Soup and whitebait and chips. We both enjoyed our meals.

I love this place. only on the bottom is that I do not live near enough to go any weekend! friendly staff, tasty eating, reasonable prices and they allow dogs. perhaps also the best sticky toffee pudding on the face of the planet. can not recommend enough.

We come here most weeks and without any notice we were turned away on New Years Eve afternoon. There was no notice that they would be closed prior to the paid entry in the evening. Customers that come here 52 weekends of the year are left to find elsewhere and treated very poorly. 1 out of 5 is still too high Money grabbing and out of touch with the community View menu

Beautifully decorated and welcoming pub/restaurant. I would say, Edwardian decor. We received a warm welcome, drinks, then through to the restaurant. There the Sunday lunch was served, roast beef, fresh vegetables and Yorkshire pudding. Absolutely wonderful. As was the dessert, heavenly, light sticky toffee pudding. This is a great place for dog lovers. Nearly every table had a happy dog either under it, the small dogs, or next to it, the bigger dogs. Our dog happily stayed under the table. The friendly, helpful staff weaved around the room offering great service. We will definitely be going back.

Six of us went for a meal just before Christmas. A very disappointing experience with both service food. Discussed with member of staff at the time but no real apology or resolution. Emailed the manager (had to follow up 2 weeks later for a response). Glad to hear they’d address staff training issues but disappointed with their response to food issues. Six dishes over 3 courses were not good (under/over cooked, cold etc) and the response was that we should have sent them back to the kitchen. I think an issue with one dish is acceptable but 6 dishes?!! Emailed again questioning their response to the food issues…2 weeks later still awaiting a response (again I have followed up to prompt a repl...

"Having previously enjoyed 2 family meals at the Fox and Grapes earlier this year I hate to leave a negative review. However, on this visit the food was the worst I have been served in a very long time. My son booked a table at the Fox and Grapes over the phone, when we arrived there was no record of our booking, however we were shown to a table. The table was located by a window which was rusty and there was water all over the window sill. It felt cold and damp. It was at least 30 minutes, and after a reminder, that someone came to take our drinks order. We knew that there was a large party in the pub and so accepted this delay. Having waited so long we placed our food order at the same time. I ordered fish and chips having seen another guest eating what looked like a nice meal. When mine eventually arrived it was cooked to a crisp the batter was chewy and the fish tough. Two of our party ordered the Steak and Landlord Pie, this proved to be a small portion of pie with uncooked pastry and only 3 small pieces of meat. My grandson ordered a chicken burger again this was overcooked and he could only eat the edges as the middle was tough. Lastly my husband had the beefburger which he described as gritty! The service, which had previously been a highlight of our visits, was also poor. When paying the £95 bill I did highlight that I was not happy with the standards. The very nice lady behind the bar apologised but no discount was offered, not that it would have helped as the food was so bad, I very much doubt we will return. The next day we had excellent food and service at the the Hawarden Farm Shop."
