"Having previously enjoyed 2 family meals at the Fox and Grapes earlier this year I hate to leave a negative review. However, on this visit the food was the worst I have been served in a very long time. My son booked a table at the Fox and Grapes over the phone, when we arrived there was no record of our booking, however we were shown to a table. The table was located by a window which was rusty and there was water all over the window sill. It felt cold and damp. It was at least 30 minutes, and after a reminder, that someone came to take our drinks order. We knew that there was a large party in the pub and so accepted this delay. Having waited so long we placed our food order at the same time. I ordered fish and chips having seen another guest eating what looked like a nice meal. When mine eventually arrived it was cooked to a crisp the batter was chewy and the fish tough. Two of our party ordered the Steak and Landlord Pie, this proved to be a small portion of pie with uncooked pastry and only 3 small pieces of meat. My grandson ordered a chicken burger again this was overcooked and he could only eat the edges as the middle was tough. Lastly my husband had the beefburger which he described as gritty! The service, which had previously been a highlight of our visits, was also poor. When paying the £95 bill I did highlight that I was not happy with the standards. The very nice lady behind the bar apologised but no discount was offered, not that it would have helped as the food was so bad, I very much doubt we will return. The next day we had excellent food and service at the the Hawarden Farm Shop."

The pub felt empty and damp. It could do with a renovation and good clean! Wait at the bar was a while, service was poor in the restaurant area too. Food was okay.. nothing special for the prices. Overall staff were friendly but the pub in general had a strange vibe. Okay for a drink but would not eat there again. View menu

Arrived unannounced wanting a table for two after having a great meal a year or two ago. Pub now quite bare except for Christmas trees, woman’s toilet unclean and nasty. An older fella served at the bar while we waited for our table. The table hadn’t been prepared, no cutlery and appeared un wiped. The meal choice was basic pub fare and what we had was hot and edible. We cleared the plates. Service was ok staff appeared nice enough and chatty.

Just back from the fox and feel I must write a review!! We were a party of 7 plus 2 dogs and booked in for Sunday lunch. What a fabulous pud, everything was perfect. The staff are amazing and very accommodating for us all, as mentioned before the side room was a bit chilly but it was 1 degrees outside) but they soon found us another table in the main bar. The Sunday roast was outstanding, all served fresh and hot. The deserts were also amazing!! Then free doggy ice cream for our 2 pouches. The prices are also very reasonable too. A special mention to jimmy, our host. Wonderful attentive man who looked after us so well. Thank you Jimmy All in all a wonderful afternoon with my family and looki... View menu

We will never return to eat here We came here for a birthday meal and there was 12of us. Menu sounded nice and we ordered garlic mushrooms.vegetarian lasagne. Expensive but we hoped it would be worth it as we were hungry. Garlic mushrooms barely any mushrooms in this pool of creamy something that had no garlic in it and barely warm. My friend couldn’t eat her cold one which came late as obviously forgotten. Our ‘lasagne’ was tiny bowl of mush that was barely warm and no salad, nothing to go with it but two tiny bits of bread. For the expense I have had a full sized lasagne, with salad and chips for less and tasted better and actually hot. We had thankfully ordered chips between us and these...

Family of 4 visiting for a meal. We were seated in the little side room to the left as you enter the pub. It was a little cold and I didn’t want to risk turning the heater on as there were no legs on it and it looked a bit dodgy. Anyway the food wasn’t great overall. My partner had the chicken tikka with rice and Nan and he said that was nice but not enough of it. He ordered cheesy chunky chips and they seemed nice too to be fair. My and my son decided to just have deserts and mine was the chick fudge cake with cherry flavour and ice cream. Was nice enough but would have expected a slightly bigger slice for £6. My youngest has the kids brownie and ice cream. He complained it was dry and horr...

"Went for a drive Father's day and ended up having a meal here, we rang and luckily got a table for 7pm. On entry to the Celtic Arms it was a high walled gated area with absolutely beautiful gardens which went on for some considerable area, it is a golf club as well and a beautiful golf course with golf buggies opposite the restaurant. Opposite the golf buggies their is a play area that as I recall was fenced off but attached to the restaurant as its also a bar. On arrival to the resteraunt the manager was extremely warm and welcoming and escorted us to a table just outside of the restaurant. During the time we where in the Celtic Arms I observed the waitress in the restaurant constantly clean and spraying the tables which was absolutely so reassuring since the last covid people have relaxed a bit to much. A young lady who was equally as welcoming came and as us for our order, it was a set three course meal at £23.99 which we felt was really reasonable for such a lovely place. Halfway through our time in the Celtic Arms the young lady went home from her shift that had intially taken our order and I pressume we then passed to another waitress. I felt we where out of the eye of the bar but not in the restaurant so got a little forgotten about, although once we called a member of staff to remove our plates these where remove immediately. The starters where delicious with plenty of prawns on the prawn cocktail and the pate had an amazing homemade chutney. The mains where lamb and beef with the whole meal being cooked to perfection and hot with vegetables cooked just right. A lovely touch we felt was the lady out of the restaurant came and asked us if everything was to our liking and was there anything of the meal we would like a little extra off, I dare say you won't get a ton of potatoes or veg but the gesture was very touching and to be honest the meal size was ample. The desert white chocolate and raspberry cheesecake we shared and both agreed it was delicious, and we then shared a cheeseboard which I had got on the three course set menu. The delicious chutney again appeared with varies cheeses, crackers and grapes. Our compliments where left with the manager and the staff with our thanks for serving and delivering multiple resteraunts can not quite achieve. Well done Celtic arms for your polite, professional manner and serving a delicious good quality meal which was ample portioned, reasonably priced in an excellent environment. Would definitely recommend this place it's beautiful and wins hands down on the last 20 plus places we have been over the last few months. We will most definitely be going back again."
