"to the seen, we in the week before the departure of the chance for a Sunday roast, only to say that the restaurant was fully booked! we thought that would be a good sign, so booked for the next Sunday and welcomed by a friendly staff and great selection of weep always a good start. the menu was limited, perfect for our requirements. the roasts are beautiful and taste like a real home cooked dinner exactly what was necessary. my only critique is the size of the parts that are these on the small side and we are away feeling hungry! they can order additional pages that helps, but this pushes the roasts at £20 per head expensive for what it is and more than the best steak house on the whole way. would come back, but would like to see larger portions, a few more seasoned and happy!"

A short simple pre-cinema menu provided us with just enough choice for a delicious early supper. Great value.

Good Gastro pub style food, fair price but not sure why they won the best restaurant award... They served us a mix of pieces of bread, brioche a bit stain but overall ok. Service friendly but food always a bit long to arrive

We had a good Sunday lunch experience at this restaurant. We had booked for 12 o'clock but arrived to find that the employees had just opened and the place was not quite ready yet. The staff were friendly, the food was affordable, and it was served quickly.

The extensive menu at this restaurant offers a wide variety of food options. Despite its appearance as a large northern pub, the restaurant provides a bistro-style dining experience that patrons have greatly enjoyed. The atmosphere is cozy and inviting, reminiscent of a friendly pub.

The Great Northern pub is next door to the Odyssey cinema which is why we went there. There is a fixed price menu. The waiter was friendly and helpful, particularly about my need to be wheat free. The food is excellent and they have only a small number of tables so getting through dinner before the film was not a problem. We will be going back again.

Sunday roast: beef was delicious. Starter: £7.50 and couldn't find the goats cheese in the salad, total rip off! Soup: tinned surely! Coffee machine broken! Along the corridor to the toilets is a makeshift sink area, heap of horribly dirty grey/black towels on floor, and our dishes from our previous course, made me wish I'd checked the hygiene rating. Don't bother.

The Great Northern is conveniently situated next to the Odyssey Cinema in St. Albans and is the perfect spot for a meal before catching a movie. The food is of a very high standard, with generous portion sizes at reasonable prices. The menu is concise, with all dishes freshly prepared, making it easier to decide. They offer a large burger option and can accommodate gluten-free requests. Due to limited seating, it is recommended to make a reservation.
